Here's a practical experience from last night:
I upgraded to 2.0.2 the night it came out. Last night I was sitting next to a friend in a coffee shop who still had 2.0.1. We both joined the coffee shop's public wifi network. She was able to surf, but I kept getting connection errors and freezes and was not even able to view a web page. And as I was sitting in the coffee shop in the middle of a major metropolis, my signal bars kept fluctuating from 3 to 0.
In conclusion,:(((((
I've had tons of connection/signal and dropped call problems ever since I upgraded my old non-3G iPhone to the 2.0 OS. I think this is a software problem.
As soon as I read this post, I thought: Chuck Norris. Maybe you don't have to be at the top of your game for more than a few years. You just need to train people to tremble like a chihuahua in a purse at the sound of your name.
If this practice is so frowned upon, why are routers still being shipped with a default unsecured configurations with the same stupid network id, and why do my wireless devices constantly ask me about (or just proceed with) connecting to unsecured networks? NMP, biznitches.
Just because you can replicate the sensory experience of something by "poking" at the brain doesn't mean that a real outside stimulus is false. For instance, I think you could probably make the brain experience the sensory perception of color by "poking" at the visual cortex. That doesn't change the fact that there are real world stimuli that evoke this experience as well. In short, showing that the brain is capable of experiencing something because of a different, artificial stimulus does not predict or rule out the primary "natural" source of that experience. Although it does present an interesting question for evolutionary theory - why does this perception ability exist?
Amazingly enough, I just discovered this bug in Lotus Sametime a couple of days ago. Whenever I sent a message with a filename ending in.scr, it sent a blank line to the recipient instead. I haven't verified with any of the other identified strings. Maybe there's a common piece of crapware they're both using?

I always suspected Apple's smooth, white finish would ring true with those still trapped in the 70's... Maybe the next generation ipods will feature avocado green and harvest gold cases! Kill me now.
I'm not sure I'd like one of these devices. Many obstacles I encounter are noticed by me in my peripheral vision. If I had to look at every potentially hazardous object to keep some alarm from going off that might get pretty annoying.
Implying that a generally portable language on a generally standards compliant (POSIX) OS should be relegated to just one companies version of it just because it's the "defacto commercial standard" seems shortsighted, and bad practice.
Good point. Microsoft Java?
Seriously, though, the post says, "an epic guide that clarifies relationships essential to understanding both entities in a truly holistic manner." I think the goal here is to show the intimate marriage of the language with a UNIX operating system and SUN just happens to be the dish du jour. When you start drilling down that far, things are rarely easily portable.
C in one Unix should ideally be portable to another Unix
Aww... That's sweet. The sad reality, though, is that it isn't portable. Even simple things like dirent, the file system independent directory entry, has varying functions that support it from platform to platform. Unless you're writing a "hello world" you'll find all kinds of OS and compiler differences even from one version to the next on the same platform. That being said, this book might be useful for even non-Sun geeks to point out just how tightly the C implementation can be bound to the OS and hardware.
I carry my drivers license so I can drive. I have no interest in other people knowing "who I am".
Indeed. I opposed fingerprinting not because I mind the govt having my fingerprint, but because I knew it would lead to things like this.
The Driver's License / State ID has become required to do many everyday things such as cashing a check or buying a beer. This is being used to force us to keep getting these ID cards even with things like this attached to them that we don't want.
Now they want to force me to carry a signal emitting chip to do these things? That'll be the day.
Oh! You didn't find the secret chest with the download mirror. Unfortunately, if you've already saved you're going to have to start all over from the beginning.
Your attempt to ward of the nerd-zombies fails. Luckily, the nerd-zombies become distracted by the latest Slashdot posting and begin laughing and snorting uncontrollably while hitting their refresh buttons. One of them seems to be wearing a cowboy hat.
That's funny! Seriously, though, it would be awesome if Mel somehow managed to really stick it to Lucas for all this editing garbage. He might even be able to make it a major plot element. They might have some kind of time machine where they go back to change something that happened in the past but then argue about it later.
Bob was sent to the store by Alice for polarized one-time pads but as usual he came back with the wrong filter. She should have just sent Eve to begin with.
Are there any lengths they won't go to in order to protect our privacy? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BnLbv6QYcA

The first nice day of spring around here and I have to get nailed with pidgin poop.

God is not a creature.
!= is a single operator eventhough it uses two characters.
:-P
Is not!!
Hey!!!! No fair destroying the earth while I was in the bathroom! ... Has anyone seen my mountain dew?
Well, OK.... but you don't HAVE to shave your legs to dress up as the evil witch from Snow White.
Don't forget to check the roll of tinfoil before building your hat, just in case they put an RFID tag in the sheet!!!
That's no joke. Check out "the world's smallest RFID"

"You idiot! You shot him before he fired at you!"
"No, that's the way I meant to do it!"
and soon after they will release a complete box set
Included in this set will be a bonus disc with a running time of 1 hour 24 minutes of Peter Jackson laughing all the way to the bank.
Hey...I'll buy it.
