Me and and a bunch of friends started an ISP, one of the first in our town. The technical side of it went great and the customer base grew and grew, almost out of control... BUT, none of us knew how to run a business properly and the whole thing was pretty much screwed up so much so that we couldn't handle it and ended up selling it to a larger ISP and getting hardly any decent cash for it. So I can say that I rode the wave early on, but ended up not becoming a millionaire or even a little rich from the experience. Kind of makes me jealous of all the others that did it properly. I'll probably never get that kind of chance in my life again.
There are a lot of games on the market that are crap exactly as you describe... but there are some that are very playable and not based on any pre-existing hollywood franchise. Most of the good games are found on PC's, NOT on consoles.
Google keeps pumping out these incredibly useful internet tools which I think are great... but I worry that Google will someday be synonymous with
"the internet". The common person won't know what "the internet" actually is anymore when everything they need to do online is handled by Google. What happens when Google goes bad? I know they are well liked at the moment and considered underdogs against evil empires like microsoft... but they will eventually go bad. All powerful corporate controlled entities do.
I loved my amiga 2000. I also sold it when I realized I needed a PC to stay current... and I got myself a 386. I hated that piece of shiat. I also hated my 486, started to like my pentiums a bit. Now I love my AMD running Linux.
I switched to Linux on my desktop back in 2000 and don't really care for their new products, no matter how good they are supposed to be. I've not missed them at all over the years and frankly I'm amazed they are still in business.
I have a wife and a sister who are both clinically depressed... and they have both tried talk-therapy only at certain times in their life... and they would both be dead if they hadn't gone back on their meds. I live with this everyday... can't say I understand it, but I do know it's not just a mental state and talking / religion / hypnosis will not fix it.
you are only talking about situational depression, which everybody gets sometimes in their life. clinical depression is an imbalance of chemicals in your brain, making you be depressed even when everything is great in your life. you obviously do not know any clinically depressed people and you haven't read any medical books on the subject.
don't try and tell people you have an answer... you will only make things worse.
for everyone... my wife has had severe clinical depression since the age of 12 and she has tried everything (except electro-shock). St.John's wort did nothing for her.
Why doesn't somebody just come up with a sub $99 handheld linux box? I mean, it would for a really niche market, but you could probably sell thousands of them to that market.

Some vista's just aren't that pretty.

I've been waiting for a really cheap device (like this one) that will act as a wireless SSH client! Sweet!
And I even got it modded +5... too bad I didn't actually write FP in there somewhere.
