If bullies bust or steal my kids laptop, they will be hunted down by me. I will confront the parents. If nothing gets resolved, the police will be bought into the picture. Easy enough. If that still doesn't work... there is a thing called vigilante justice.
Both Thermaltake and Silverstone make good fanless PSU's and CPU coolers. I'm not talking water cooling either, just fanless, with huge heat fins and heat pipes. You're going to pay about $100 for each of these items. So then the only thing left making noise is the hard drive... and for that, just switch to a seagate which are probably the quietest.
I also have a theory that the earth is sitting atop an infinite stack of huge turtles. I know it's only a theory but I think it deserves equal class time... since even evolution is a theory.
As slashdot is backed by a big corporate power, who allow Microsoft ads on it's pages, they have a quota to post an equal number of pro-microsoft articles in relation to anything anti-microsoft, even if the pro-microsoft ones are just full of shit. I know this because I do work for an informational company who will avoid reporting negative press about their funders even though said press is directly applicable to the type of stuff they should be reporting.
/bah, corporations and big business are all the same, all evil liars who give you only what they want you to know
You don't understand, this is EXACTLY what the wacky fundamentalist Christians want. The mark of the beast has been talked about for so long, now they finally have a chance to make it happen. It's called "self-fulfilling prophecy". Look it up.
I live in southern ontario and my parents live in northern ontario. Before 9/11, I used to always drive through michigan to get there and back because it is much faster and easier than the canadian route. After 9/11, I think I may have gone through michigan once... and after having to sit in customs lines for about an hour with armed military personal watching you, I am not going that way again. I don't need the stress. So, basically, I no longer have any desire to travel to the US for any reason at all. This is just another step that will harden my resolve (sorry for the "bush speak").
One extremely important point to consider that everyone seems to ignore in the Linux vs. Mac debates...
Linux is open source, Mac is not and never will be.
Remember when they first announced opensolaris and everybody on slashdot was like "it's going to kill linux, bla bla...". Where is it today? It has a small handful of users and nobody really cares. Like it or not Linux has you pwned!
I don't see why Linux would not be THE operating system of the future for server as well as desktop. It is still growing and getting vastly better every year. As long there is an involved, interested and active open-source community, I think Linux will be around for a long time to come... unless something like HURD ever properly materializes.
BUT, who determines future technology adaption? I believe it's us techie types, mom and pop (the 95%) just follow our lead. If it becomes standard practice to install FF or some other complaint browser first thing after a windows install, I don't see a problem with adaption.
As they are a major player on the interwebs, they can hugely affect which browser people choose to use. If they would only not bother supporting any goofy IE-only browser code and stick with standards, people would be be switching to complaint browsers very quickly.
Thanks again for you the great browser, firefox team!
Didn't keep proper tax records / accounting, didn't hire proper employees or pay appropriate wages, didn't prepare for the growth, had non-existent marketing, gave away too much for cheap or even free, didn't have proper legalese smallprint on contracts, etc...
The post you mention may be slightly off-topic but it doesn't mean it's not telling the truth. It seems that YOU just can't handle the truth.
You can get a gaming console for $200... but try and find a new laptop for less than $1000 !

Not that hard people.
...please have a look at the link in my sig.
Hell, I've always just pronounced it soose (rhymes with moose).
Don't work for companies that implement such a policy, then, no companies will want to implement that policy.
I want to make myself a cluster of cheap Linux computers. The hardware in these is fairly decent, no? Are they rack mountable?
FUCK WALMART.
Specifically these groups... http://www.zetatalk.com/ http://www.samsara2003.com/New/new-main.htm
A lot of us have stopped trying to make things compatible with IE. Coding to standards wins!
Too little, too late.

WTF? Make some sense man!

Unbending the truth
