    Replace your PSU and your CPU cooler.

    Both Thermaltake and Silverstone make good fanless PSU's and CPU coolers. I'm not talking water cooling either, just fanless, with huge heat fins and heat pipes. You're going to pay about $100 for each of these items. So then the only thing left making noise is the hard drive... and for that, just switch to a seagate which are probably the quietest.

    Not that hard people.

    As slashdot is backed by a big corporate power, who allow Microsoft ads on it's pages, they have a quota to post an equal number of pro-microsoft articles in relation to anything anti-microsoft, even if the pro-microsoft ones are just full of shit. I know this because I do work for an informational company who will avoid reporting negative press about their funders even though said press is directly applicable to the type of stuff they should be reporting.

    /bah, corporations and big business are all the same, all evil liars who give you only what they want you to know

    I live in southern ontario and my parents live in northern ontario. Before 9/11, I used to always drive through michigan to get there and back because it is much faster and easier than the canadian route. After 9/11, I think I may have gone through michigan once... and after having to sit in customs lines for about an hour with armed military personal watching you, I am not going that way again. I don't need the stress. So, basically, I no longer have any desire to travel to the US for any reason at all. This is just another step that will harden my resolve (sorry for the "bush speak").

    I don't see why Linux would not be THE operating system of the future for server as well as desktop. It is still growing and getting vastly better every year. As long there is an involved, interested and active open-source community, I think Linux will be around for a long time to come... unless something like HURD ever properly materializes.

    BUT, who determines future technology adaption? I believe it's us techie types, mom and pop (the 95%) just follow our lead. If it becomes standard practice to install FF or some other complaint browser first thing after a windows install, I don't see a problem with adaption.

    As they are a major player on the interwebs, they can hugely affect which browser people choose to use. If they would only not bother supporting any goofy IE-only browser code and stick with standards, people would be be switching to complaint browsers very quickly.     Didn't keep proper tax records / accounting, didn't hire proper employees or pay appropriate wages, didn't prepare for the growth, had non-existent marketing, gave away too much for cheap or even free, didn't have proper legalese smallprint on contracts, etc...
