BINGO! Number one reason I hate console gaming and will be sticking with PC gaming for the foreseeable future. FPS gaming on a PC with a mouse beats out anything on a console. No contest. Consoles are only good for "arcade-type" games... in other word, boring/crappy/eye-candy-only games.
This is a hosting company that claims green power, but actually just buys green tags (maybe, or so they say). They also just plug their servers into the wall like everyone else.
I mean there are so many stupid/unfair/vague software patents out there, does anybody really need to take them seriously? Can't some ambitious lawyers come up with a way to show the absolute ridiculousness of software patents and get the courts to rule them ALL null and void?
I hate the fact that Microsoft is a powerful monopoly. Nobody can compete with them... except open source. I WANT open source software to become the monopoly, as it isn't necessarily "owned" by a corporation, anybody can take it and make something better or different. Corporate monopolies kill innovation.
I see it more as a learning problem solving skills which I think are essential for anything you do in life. Don't creativity and problem solving skills count for anything in IQ measurements?
My 3-year old son started with the nickjr website, mastered most of the games within a few weeks and has since played and finished with all of the Thomas the Train Engine games, Caillou games, Freddie Fish games and Dora the Explorer games. Now, at age 4, he is playing Toy Story 2 and Incredibles. And he always begs with me to play the "shooting game"... which me and my wife really don't like him playing or even watching me play. Although I sometimes let him drive the vehicles around and I play crash-up derby with him (with no shooting). The game is UT2004.
He still loves going outside to play in the sandbox and playing soccer. He interacts with other children. His vocabulary is absolutely incredible... just today I asked him something and he replied "That is correct.". He sometimes complains "This game is much to complicated for a little kid like me". He can work our VCR and DVD player, knows the basics of opening, minimizing, maximizing, and closing windows. He knows that mommies computer runs "windows" and daddies runs "linux". He spends hours playing with any toys he gets his hands on, making up elaborate stories and situations.
So, is my child losing IQ points from computer usage? I think he is gaining them at a much faster pace than other kids his age. A real geek in the making.
I run archlinux (modified version of slackware) and while the source does compile fine, the executable won't run because of "unknown" OS. Even if I specify one of the supported OS types via the "--os" parameter, it still won't run.
I was taught that when God created the earth, it was just a big blob of water.
Also, I was taught that time has been slowing down since creation. This explains why the biblical age of the Earth is about 6000 years. At creation, time was moving almost infinitely fast, then started exponentially slowing down. Also explains why biblical characters in the old testament often lived to be around 800-900 years old. Instead of time moving faster though, I would guess just the earths rotation has slowed down.
I have long since dropped all those crazy theories and am no longer a practicing Christian... but it is interesting to see how the Christians get more fodder for their "proof" of God and all things related.

I have code which I place on every page that displays a red error box if IE is detected... saying to upgrade to a better browser, with links to firefox and opera.
The main reason to not run as root on a single user system is that you don't want your box to end up a spam portal or hacking portal or whatever. Say you are running some web browser as root. Remote exploit for that particular web browser allows access to your machine, hacker gets in, sets up spam relaying and goes undetected. Hacker does not give a shit about deleting your data... he couldn't care less. Now, consider the same situation if you ran that particular web browser as a normal user. Hacker users remote exploit to gain access to your system, but his scripts fail to run because root privileges are required. Hacker moves on to an easier target.
The reason Linux will never have the same problem with spyware, trojans and worms is because of most distros setting up the main account as a normal user, not root. So, once linux gets more popular and hackers start writing more tools to hack linux boxes, guess who the much easier target will be... people running Lindows.
See, your rant was blown out of the water... you are just plain wrong.
An "easy" transition to Mac can only happen if you happen to have extra cash lying around to buy Mac hardware. With Linux, you just download and burn a CD and install. Free.
People, stop saying going to a Mac is easy and the most logical choice... for many it is simply not an option for financial reasons. And don't post that "high cost" Mac is just a myth... it isn't. Look at the price of a Mac Mini, their cheapest model, which isn't very good hardware unless you get the extras, therefore bringing the price back up again.
Go ahead Mac loving mods, mod me down as flamebait... you bastages.

You can replace "establishment" with wherever you got the food poisoning. See, in your attempt to make someone else look foolish you ended up making yourself look foolish.
reading books. I have a huge collection of paperback fantasy, sci-fi and fiction which I have only read about half of. Sometimes I get on a reading kick for a few weeks.. then one day just stop reading and go back to the Internet exclusive for months at a time. TV does not come into the picture at all anymore. If somebody (the government or microsoft) ever takes over the internet and starts controlling what I can see, thereby ruining the Internet, I am going to have a massive fit of rage... and heads are a gonna roll baby!
because it basically was. The security has eased up again in my experience. Where am I going and how long will I stay usually is the most questioning I get... but then again, I'm of European descent and don't look anything like a terrorist. Because you know, you can spot a terrorist by the colour of their skin. (joking, obviously)
Here is an encrypted message which uses a
method I made up myself.
I know nothing
about cryptography... so maybe this is easy
to crack, but maybe not. Try to crack it
if you can, the decoded message will give
further instructions.

everybody start violating them and completely ignoring them. they can't sue everybody. right?

It seems that the wait has been forever, so does this mean that sarge is completely out of date before it's officially released?

Thanks so much for setting me straight. I know understand that my kid is just an average dumbass. You are so wise.

Really, who cares what the megacorp is doing, Linux is free for anybody to use and to support, whether they be "good" or "evil".

Please, lets just go around and gather all these spammers up and put them in prison so I can read my email again without parsing out the 90% spam.
