Just wait until they replace analog outs with digital speaker connections. Completely unnecessary, but it keeps you from plugging the old tape deck straight in.
Small area to cover. And a population that is willing to send more on the latest gadgets than we are. Heck, most people here just take whatever phone comes with the plan.
Note the wide selection of PDAs on the secondary markets (ebay). The only people buying are new users (or those buying for gifts), and those few odd ones who have to have the latest. (and those guys sell the old one on ebay to help fund the addiction)
Maybe you ment to say that doesn't happen with your powerbooks. Likewise my dell laptops have been doing fine. Definately not falling apart. Of course the difference is probably that you and I are smart enough not to buy the chaepest model from any company. (inspiron vs. latitude, ibook vs. powerbook)
I've hard both praise and complaints about ipod sound quality; which leads me to believe that it is a very subjective thing.
Linux-based os is actually pretty accurate. We are usually quick to point out that Linux is a kernal and the whole distro is the OS. He seems to be aware of this judgeing from his wording.
He could have dropped linux out of the statement entirely, though. The kernal didn't really matter in this case except for the comparisons to Tivo.
People doing R&D aren't being protected now. The only people protected are those who can afford the patent lawyers.
With patents there is no incentive to innovate because only one company is allowed to produce any feature or product. Look at how RIM has been potentially enjoined out of business. The gist is that nobody is allowed to make X because company Y came up with the idea first. (yet wasn't able to market it)
No hardware I plug in after my computer is already booted should be able to crash my computer. That's a commonsense end-user expectation which Microsoft has yet to live up to.
I don't know of any system that can reliably live up to that standard. *nix included.
1. fair use in this context has little to do with licenseing/purchase. You are allowed to record a broadcast for your own personal use.
2. The point is not that the flag cannot be gotten around, we all know how to do that. The point is that it will now be illegial. So now, doing what we had been doing for years is a crime.
It's hard to rule free men, so they make everyone a criminal.
I feel bad for your plight, but if the people who made the cheap digicam were too cheap to make it or it's drivers right, is it really fair to blame the OS when things go bad? Drivers run much closer to the metal than regular apps.
Looks like you started with a conclusion, then went to find data. Most of your post is FUDtastic. (good point about the licenses though, one would hope that they rethink the licensing model on that)
Telling someone that they are clueless beacuse they use a differnt setup than you is not very helpful.

...for lawyers.
Is a 3/4/whatever G phone really important?

Look at how many people lease thier car even though is very rarely a good idea.
People don't want choice or quality; they want to be spoon fed.Note the wide selection of PDAs on the secondary markets (ebay). It's the dead horse of plot devices. They just keep digging it up and beating on it.
Then that 64 bit OS might actually get out the door sometime this decade.
Naw it was the Nazi aliens! Didn't you see the last Enterprise?
He could have dropped linux out of the statement entirely, though. The kernal didn't really matter in this case except for the comparisons to Tivo.
300 is low for a PC, but this is a consumer AV device. 300 is pretty high end in that market, just look at the Xbox pricing.
HBO did a funny movie about military QA a while back. I think it still exists on video. Nothing I would buy, but it's a good rental.
The entire borken legal system is part of the problem.

And that is different than what we have now how?
Screw patents.
If you can't get people to buy it from you, then move out of the way of those who can.
This is getting insane.I don't know of any system that can reliably live up to that standard. *nix included.
Digital is a red herring anyway "It's digital! it's different!". No, it's not!
It's hard to rule free men, so they make everyone a criminal.
I like your rant, though. Espically the cofee house bit.
When they were allowed to become a de-facto part of government. Thank senators WB and Sony and pals.
