Also, localisation/translations of games would be another big help =p

  9. Re:Legality? on Handheld Game Competition Winners Announced · · Score: 5, Informative

these games are entirely legal, they were developed without using the official development kits (esp without pirated devkits). there are no lockouts for homebrew carts on any gameboy system (as far as I know). there should be no problem with making your own carts and selling them. I know of a few trackers that ppl sell on the net for making gb music... homemade carts and everything... no legal probs.

some homebrew games eventually get published... esp for gameboy systems. Genetic Fantasia's PD version of Yar's Revenge (an updated clone/remake of the 2600 classic) was later revamped and got published by Telegames. Maybe Genetic Fantasia = Digital Eclipse? not sure...

    Check this guy's story out:
"In the spring of 2000 I released a freeware Gameboy Color ROM, that was an identical clone of the old Q*bert arcade game. You can read the story behind its creation and obtain the game below. Shortly after I put the ROM on my website something amazing happened...someone in the Gameboy developer community came across my version of the game and passed it on to Majesco Sales. Majesco had the rights to do the Gameboy Color version of Q*bert, and they contacted me to see if I'd be interested in enhancing what I'd done and making it a commercial product."

And the guy who cloned Ultima 3 by reverse engineering the original talked a bit with the original company. But they said it wasn't commercially viable =(

All of those instances DID violate copyright tho, so they're not good examples. BUT, they didn't get into legal trouble.

Drymouth ALMOST got published... clone of Picross... no legal probs there.

I'm sure the list could go on.

majora's mask seems to lose some drawing distance. and that sucks about the sound hiccups... I guess the gcube's n64 emulator wasn't really up for emulating games that needed the extra memory module.

I wish they showed screenshots at higher res... and screenshots of the other games. I'm curious to see how well the nes games look on the tv. Also, is Zelda II based off the US version or the Japanese one? There were some differences in music, and sprites... other misc stuff. (*the only one who probably cares*)

If they look blurry or stretched... then that would suck. I heard that metroid prime's unlocked NES metroid kind of sucked about that. It might not be able to go into a low resolution (stuck at somewhere close to 640x480?).

I personally recommend IMBNes for PS1 if you're picky like me. Since it's PS1, it uses a resolution very close to the original NES (actually shows a little more pixels... but on most tv's, you can't tell the difference). And, it was also designed to emulate the palette just as the original NES output. So, not only are the games in perfect colours, they also look amazing with s-video.

I was planning to use it on my xbox on a regular basis, and bring it to other ppl's houses to play on ps2 (and I was hoping it'd work on PSone).. I asked if it could be returned if it didn't work with my converter... they said the returned product would have to be DEFECTIVE (and that they test it) in order to get my money back. Otherwise... store credit. And what was even more discouraging was the fact they wouldn't even bring the actual controller to the front for me to see it (or touch it). I don't even get to look at it, they say I have to pay for it first. I hate you, Gamestop.

I had been getting this problem for a looong time, couldn't get windows update going, couldn't install the ms blaster security patch (without finding an alternative installer from the original security update)... I had searched countless sites on "fixes" that didn't apply to me. But, thankfully, after the whole ms blaster patch thing settled, a few more ppl like me have come out of the woodworks...

the fix that applied to me:

(The following is ONLY XP Professional - NOT XP Home Edition)

Well, this is going to happen only to a handful of you... I hope!

Without getting too "techie" on you, there is an issue for some Windows XP Professional users where the computers Software Restriction Policy for the Local Computer only allows "Local computer administrators" to select "trusted publishers". This is causing the failure....

This occurs whether the user installing the security patch is an Administrator or not!

This may mean nothing to you and it does not have too.

    Here is the work around:

Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type: gpedit.msc then click the OK button.
In the new windows that opens you will see a menu on the left hand side.
Under Computer Configuration you will see a folder called Windows Settings - double click it.
The new options that appear directly below include Security Settings - double click it.
The new options that appear directly below include Software
Restriction Policies - double click it.
Now on the right hand side of the window you will see an object called Trusted Publishers - double click it and a new window appears.

In this window change the setting under Allow the following users to select trusted publishers to the default which should be End Users.

for even more fixes (in case it didn't work for you), check out the site I found it off: http://www.updatexp.com/cryptographic-service.html
