Argh, why's there no support for Winamp 3? Now i have to choose between having my Media Library, or goin old-skool, but bein able to use this cool plug-in
Yeah, I agree. the only people that seem to use it now are geeks (not that I have anything wrong with that...). Most "normal" computer users tend to use MSN Chat or something. My point is IRC is technically *far* superior to MSN Chat or any other web-based chat system. And its not that hard to use at all with mIRC.
Personally I find it hilarious that America can still claim to be a democracy, the "Land Of The Free". Only the richest people can get political influence. Surely there should be a cap on how much politicians can spend, and how much can be donated to them? I know its not perfect over here in the UK but its better. American hypocrisy continues...
By the way this isn't a flamebait, just political opinion
Seems to me like there's gonna be a lot of unnecessary downloading of files you'll never use. How about just a floppy with the Program Browser on it, but links to download the file from the internet? Along with a comprehensive description of the program, users would only have to download what they want. And i don't think i'm being harsh in saying that anyone without an internet connection really needs to shape-up!
I haven't been able to read this paper yet (my 56k is bein lame) but i seriously think it'll only be 2 years max before the whole p2p thing blows up, and a major shake-up of the industry is required. If the big labels continue to impose restrictions on CDs, the bands that are really into music will simply leave the label. I find it astonishing that Cradle Of Filth, a very alternative Death Metal band, are actually singed on Sony. I'm sure that msot bands like this would quickly quit a label that insisted on releasing their albums so that they only play in CD players and Windows PCs. So two things will happen:
>Proper musicians (not Britney Spears) will leave their Corporate Label and simply distribute their own music. They'll make the majority of their profits from playing live gigs, something that pop acts aren't usually very good at.
>Music will be sold at a much cheaper price, perhaps free if thats what the band wants. I beleive that around £5-7 is a perfectly reasonable price for an album.
Unfortunately though, as much as the Record Companies would like it, i don't think that legal downloading of music from the net can ever became possible. The Net community has traditionally managed to crack and hack anything that requires paying for...
I personally don't think that systems like this can work that well. Everyone seems to get different type of spam, and you're best bet is to create your own filters. About 80% of my spam messages have wierd foreign characters in it (like Á), so I've got filters in Eudora to delete anything with one of these characters in the Subject or Body. Then obviously anything with "porn", "sex" etc, although spammers dont seem that stupid anymore. This way I only get 5-10 spam messages in my inbox per day, maximum. And this takes me about 20-30 seconds to deal with, I don't see what all the fuss is about.
Ok there's a big difference between "Some 67% of Korean households now have broadband" (As said in the article), and "67% of Korean Internet users are connected to broadband" (As said in the/. post). Anyone know which is correct? I heinously doubt that 67% of Koreans have broadband, its more likely 67% of internet users.
...I'm 16, which means (fortunately) i cant drive yet. Because when i'm going through one of my "lets play GTA for 10 hours a day" phases, while i'm walking around town all i can think about is "hey there's an unattended cop car", "Omg its a Beast GTS!". And even when i'm in the car with my parents, i really want them to drive up on the pavement and mow some peds for extra cash...Now this doesn't mean i'm actually goin to start stealing cars, but maybe someone who had thought about joy riding, but would never really do it, could be tipped over the edge by games like GTA and Carmageddon.
Yeah thats pretty much my situation. A lot of my friends use Hotmail aswell, which I'm pretty sure wont support PGP/GPG/Any encryption at all? I remember a few months ago when everyone got stressed about the British Government giving free-er access to Government Officials who wanted to read our emails, I was like "hey lets all use PGP, that'd piss em off", but none of my friends could quite grasp the idea. So i'm still the only person i know who uses PGP. Although, quite honestly, I never really send emails that are highly confidential or anything...
"Platform(s): Xbox, PS2, Gamecube" Err, has no-one else noticed that this game won't be available on PC? It's really narked me off anyway, i've never owned a console and i never want to.
Anyone got a Google Cache? I tried finding it, but cant work out how to get it lol. I narrowed my Google search down to the online.securityfocus.com domain but still didnt find anything. Maybe they just havent got it Indexed/Cached? Someone could at least post a txt version
Personally, i think this sets a bit of a bad precedent for the future of the world. I'm worried that one day the only thing we'll use for communication is IM/Txt msgs. This is bad because Text has a number of disadvantages over speech:
1) It's near impossible to convey emotions in txt. The popularity of the internet has meant people use emoticons more and more, but even these cannot compare to a single facial expression.
2)Not many people can type as fast as they can talk. This doesnt really matter to us now, but speed is important for the Fire Service or any other Life Saving Service.
I think thats pretty much the way i feel, tell me if i'm wrong!
I just removed my floppy drive a few weeks ago. I was gettin real annoyed, because everytime i accidentally clicked on my floppy drive, it would spend a whole minute chuggin, till it realised there was no floppy in it. Then, suddenly, it hit me; i hadnt actually used the damn thing for months. I had to make a Boot-CD first (just in case). But now everythings a lot better without my Floppy drive, althought the front of my comp does look a bit wierd...
You know on first glance i really thought this story was about the Anarchist Cookbook, freely available on the net etc...Oh well. Anyway here's my suggestions:
Coffee with chocolate melted into it Coffee and Red Bull
Well you can switch tabs in Mozilla using ctrl+tab. I'm sure it wouldnt be too hard to find the line of code you want and switch the key binding
Yeah i remember seein that and thinkin "hey, cool!". I'm sure more games are gonna start doing it in the future

Too many technically superior standards aren't popular. Ogg Vs Mp3, Jabber Vs MSN/AIM. Not nearly enough people use IRC. Anyone care to list more?...

Lol, this is getting silly now, it'd take hours to follow up and read all those links? there should be a 4/5 links limit surely?
Here. When are you gonna own up Hemos? its been at least half an hour now

You have to be 17 to drive in the UK. you can get a "nifty fifty" 50CC moped when you 16, but these only get to about 60mph

Ok, i wasnt even born when those posts were made, can someone explain to me why the addresses end in things like .UUCP instead of .com, .co.uk etc?
And whats with things like "ihnp4!wlbr!callan!tim or ihnp4!cithep!tim" at the end of posts?
what if you want to transfer a small file to a friend's PC?
You email them it. if they dont have the internet, are they worthy of being your friend at all?

Oh my god, i just got a 503 error when trying to load the link, and found this on the error page:
Internal error: Database is not responding; there are 2 connection attempts currently in progress.
Does this mean the site can only support 2 users at once???
