We all know that animals act odd, hours or days before things like earthquakes. The morning before a 6.8 quake in Washington State in 2001, my neighbors dog that normally will do anything to force it's way out of the front door and run for hours when the door is opened the slightest bit, wouldn't even get close to the door when the neighbor opened it. By itself, 1 animal acting weird means nothing, but a large group of animals over a localized area acting weird at the same time would point to something about to happen. The problem is that it is always after the "catastrophe" that people say, "You know sparky was acting odd this morning". If there was an online database that you could quickly go to and report that at your address your pet is acting weird at this moment, you might be able to predict the event by looking for groups of "odd acting" pets. I know it seems like a weird & far fetched idea, but tell me why it wouldn't work.
Sadly however, Obama voted *for* warrantless wiretapping *after* he said he was going to filibuster the bill. He is on record caving on this issue.
That is correct but it is more complex then that. Issues like this are never black and white, understanding the multiple aspects of a bill isn't easy. The new bill had the safeguards in place he wanted and he felt it was better to go ahead and pass it and get those safeguards than to continue with a long drawn out battle over punishment for the previous wire tapping. I would have like to have see the Bush administration punished for the wiretapping but I trust his judgment on this.
I remember when the debt hit 1 trillion dollars in the early 80's. All the talk about how a trillion dollar bills would stack to the moon 3 times over, or something like that. I remember a Johnny Carson monologue where he said, "if you have 1 trillion chicken McNuggets you could reconstruct 3 chickens":)
I remember that being the first time I every really started worrying about it. I figured its ok, they'll get it under control sooner or later. Well here we are about 25 years later, the only time it has looked like it might be under control was during Clinton's second term. This is really getting ridiculous, the over the last 25-30 years the vast increases have come under the "conservative" Republicans. We have to get this under control or it will eventually destroy our Country.
So hear I am again, really worrying this time, but I figured its ok, they'll get it under control sooner or later.
What is that? HD programming was a momentary blip, now it's almost gone.
???... Although you are somewhat correct about compression, see HD Lite. 720P/1080i are the designated standards that the Entire HD industry is built upon, and are highly regulated. 1080P was not originally intended for HD tv, it is just a logical "best of both worlds" option. There will not be a change to "Super HD" at 4000x2000 or whatever in the near future, or foreseeable future. I install Sat. dishes, at least half are HD systems and every time I get to see the customers eyes light up and say WOW. The compression is due to limited bandwidth as companies build there infrastructure to accommodate the highly increased bandwidth needs. When the switchover to HD is essentially complete, they will have caught up with the bandwidth needs and compression will be lessened or at least stay the same, it won't get worse.
Blu-Ray's problem is that it's a solution in search of a problem. VHS looked lousy (and progressively lossy) and was clunky to use; the DVD solved those problems by being a higher quality digital disk, so it was successful in the market. So... what's the consumer problem with DVDs that Blu-Ray is supposed to solve? "The resolution could be higher," just isn't that compelling a reason to upgrade.
I don't think that is correct. Blu-Ray fits a specific and growing need. If you have an HDTV with HD programming, DVD's don't look very good anymore. You get very spoiled watching HD programs and want your "Video Discs" to look just as good. The more people move to HD the more Blu-Ray will grow and DVD will fade. I only by Blu Ray discs, I think the only reason they may be stagnant at the moment is the economy.
As science progresses at an almost geometric rate, how long till we truly understand the brain and DNA etc... How long till we can artificially create a "sentient being" or even a "human". How long till we see "Borg" like (although hopefully more attractive) interfaces, or have the ability to read and or view peoples memory. Sounds very cool and very scary at the same time.
5-10 years ago I had a somewhat similar idea:

Shelob maybe?
When will then be now.... Soon!
Is there an echo in here?
So sad. Read up, sonny - it was the Carter administration.
Regardless of who started it, it was the Republicans that took advantage of it and then ran it into the ground.
Farquaad?
Stop doing the things that put you at risk for viruses and you won't have to run anti-virus.

... I thought the US *was* the evil menace that oppresses the world?
That is the biggest reason we need real change on Nov. 4th and one of the main reasons I am voting for Obama.
A career suicide indeed it is
Anti-alien propaganda coming from Yoda, kinda odd.
But wait...if the cows are spherical then how do we know they are always facing north?
It always smells worse to their south.
I'm still trying to figure out how they know that I have a small penis...

The only thing I can think to do is sing...
Every leaf you rake,
Every dog you wake,
Every herring you bake,
I'll be watching you.
Opus, you will be missed.
I believe you are exploiting Ron for your own personal gain.

Have ye Given yourself to the Flying Spaghetti Monster yet?
It's Google, is there anything they can't do?
Professor, I think you need to look at the "textbook" again. I am pretty sure my answer is right.

Couldn't they use an air tank to supply air to the motor? Maybe you could stay down for 10 minutes or so.
