You can install the snap functionality on non unity linux using the following tutorial I wrote and some fellow readers helped to improve on the ubuntu forums.

Hang on, you're saying you believe that you would trust a FSF or OSDL-funded study to be impartial? You're saying that if the FSF funded a study comparing GNU to Windows, and the study came back saying "Windows saves you money in the long term, and Microsoft's Shared Source is as good as Free Software for 99% of users", that the FSF would then be happy to publish that study?
I don't think so, and I suspect you won't either, if you pause to think about it.
Why not let Apple conduct the study... Oh wait. Thats biased too.
Point is that no one on this planet who has any experience in any form of technology is going to be able to form an unbiased opinion about any form of technology. Humans have a tendancy to draw conclusions about something the second they see it.
I used to work for a photography studio that dealt with a lot of these problems. The way that they got through all of this was by adding a sort of watermark to their photos. Each hard copy that was printed used a type of paper that had very soft yellow dots embeded in the picture. When the photo was copied or scanned those dots would overwhelm the photo. I wonder if that is possible with a digital medium.
...in the electronics department I can personaly say that Target is currently not carrying any vhs tapes (with the exception of blank tapes and kids movies). I dont know of any plans to phase out vhs of any sort right now though.
Wow, this certainly has inspired a storm of replies. I greatly apprectiate the responses and emails I have recieved and the great suggestions you have all given me. What I wanted out of this story was to see what different options I may have to help my family to work with my brother. For a little more information:
He is 18, and has had a hard time learning in school. His exact diagnosis is not known to me but I do know that the state of Oregon has him listed as severely handicapped. From an early age he has regularily beaten me at every video game we have ever played. He is currently very interested in video games (primarily Xbox Live and Computer games) and definatly enjoys games involving cars (like Need for Speed Underground 2 and Street Racing Syndicate). I know personaly that his handicap can be overcome (because I have watched him repetedly learn new words through his video games). One of the largest problems he is currently facing is that his school has been doing nothing but stifling his ability to learn. They have repetedly withdrew him from social interactions, only taught him life skills (things like cooking and cleaning and personal grooming) and in essence is trying to just float him through school. He is mostly like a normal teenager. He speaks fluently. Likes movies, video games, and sports. His only drawbacks in life is his ability to read, do math, and his lack of social interactions. If any of you want to continue to help past (or still need more information) this I encourage you to please email me (gotsanity AT gotsanity DOT net) or visit my website and drop me a line on the forums. Honestly to tell you the truth I was quite suprised that slashdot actually posted the article and I am very apreciative that they did.
is it just me or does it seem like microsoft and pfizer are going to be mutualy beneficial out of this one. pfizer's profits get to go back up and microsoft gets a ton of viagra. That should make the programmers happy.:)
Well, this has been an ongoing issue of some debate on my sites forums. We recently put up a poll asking out users what format they perfered their music in and amazingly enough over 50% said cd and only roughly 25% said mp3. While mp3's are becoming more popular I do not believe they will take main stream as much as cd's do. The one thing with cds is the physical media. With a physical media you have something that you can collect, archive, and display. While I dont believe mp3's and digital media will be the death of albums I do believe that digital media will open up quite a few doors for the future.
sitting in my pc workstation technical support class when braindead college student #1 brings in a stick of 512mb ddr wrapped in tin foil. He says to me, "Hey, my ram seems to be having a problem so I brought it in for you to look at it." He then produces a stick of ram wrapped snuggly in tin foil (for protection he added). I didnt have the heart to tell him that even if it wasnt his ram that was having the problem it sure was going to have a problem now.
I actually have a copy of the US Army's field guide to boobytraps. I wonder how many more of these field guides we would be able to scrounge up online. They are actually quite interesting and informative.
I guess google has to start paying restitution for all of those cracks and mp3's it has pointed me to over the years. What about all of those images I grabbed from the image search.
Thats totaly lame.
I have a brother that has a problem reading (due to a learning disability). It is great to know that browsers like opera are starting to involve voice recognition into their software. It opens a lot of doors for people like my brother.
This reminds me of shadowrun's version of the grid. Next thing we know we are going to have car geeks worldwide having to remove the gps just to avoid speeding tickets.
I find it more interesting to think that gates probably does not purchase his own stock. He probably has a broker that he uses to purchase his stock. Now, what i find funny about that is if he does utilize a stock broker who is truely at fault for this?
Actually you can go to http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/ntfsdos pro.shtml and download their utility. It is a DOS boot disk with ntfs support. Slap a second drive in the machine and copy away. Ive used it a few times and it works rather well.
I have never really had problems getting most standard windows programs to work unde WineX, but as for gaming it can get a little more difficult. I tend to just dual boot my machine instead of attempt linux gaming.
A mule account is a character or account a person creates just to hold their loot. However most Diablo 2 players do play their mule characters through the different missions just to get the loot from them.
I have noticed a few programs involving wine. It is interesting to see so much software involving a utility that makes code that global. I wonder where the idea of universaly (SP?) executable code is going?

I would say try making a php script that connects to a database. I could whip one up for you in a few hours easily.

The one thing that still eludes me is the fact that VoIP is becoming increasingly popular but it is so limited in where you can use it.
I would say buy a lot of wire and tin foil...
Yeah, the manual I have is actually FM 5-31. Its a great little book and great for pranking your friends or playing games like Assasin (Killer).

I seem to remember a similar article mentioning maxis working with tri-star to release a sims tv show. I wonder if this is just a follow-up by EA?

I loved the first two GT games but the third just seemed almost TO realistic, and to hard. It just wasnt fun.
Microsoft, Its the truth, Its an outrage.
