Remember that time and place when you could tell people who didn't know how to use a computer "A computer is just a stupid person who does EXACTLY what you tell them" ???
Now it seems they are doing things without us... well the companies that make them...
"Later in the afternoon, she sat outside with S. "Soma" Somasegar, a Microsoft corporate vice president, and described her vision for a self-navigating car. He listened to her ideas and told her about some of Microsoft's existing software for cars."
I guess she isn't that smart after all... Thank goodness... I had my noose all ready tied to the ceiling fan.
years ago is my point... They have a reputation now. Its quite difficult to beat a rap that you've had for over 6 years. Thats my major point.
So by this logic, AMD has no case, as manufactures knew what they were doing - the smart thing, and not going with unreliable parts. But nowdays, we've heard lots of hubbub about dell offering AMD based systems, and the like. Companies are switching over now that AMD is something that is stable, but they are doing this whole antitrust thing on a legit problem that AMD had years ago.
I'm about to tread on very thin ice here, so let me just say that my next rig will be AMD, but all previous ones have been intel.
These are businesses we are talking about. They have very little ethics these days, as i'm sure we all know. Now... AMD has not always been a stable computer. Computer manufacturer's want their cpu's and chipsets on the mobo to last as long as possible and to not burn up.
And so I lead you to the premise... Until recently, AMD's cpu's have not been of a caliber to offer to people who don't want random crashes on their computers. Ever since windows 2000 came along, i've never had a random freeze (never, and i've been using it since nov '99) but i've always used an intel setup. True, I do know how to configure a system for etertainment that will be stable, but I tried about two years ago with AMD and had freeze upon freeze. Maybe it was just a bad motherboard, but the obvious has stared me right in the face.
And yes, I will sacrifice speed for stability as i'm 100% sure you *nix users will agree with. And don't take that metaphor literally... if linux ran my games I wouldn't be staring at a windows logo at the bottom left of my screen.
> - but for gaming machines or just basic desktop apps a pre-built system saves a lot of headaches.
I've got to WHOLEHEARTEDLY disagree here. If I were to buy a pre-assembled gaming rig, it would cost about 100% more than if I were to build it myself - even if it had the exact same components in it.
Don't believe me? Just go look at alienware or something equivilant. Now for a desktop only machine for granny, an emachine is fine and dandy, but you'd never catch me buying a pre-built computer.
winamp has done the same thing to me...
I have 230 some odd CD's on my pc and if I queue them up in winamp, the same songs will tend to play during the beginning of listening... eventually, I just scroll randomly to find something different. Seriously, there is something to this - maybe a faulty algorithm, but there is something. After all, 230*(~13songs) is too many to be coincidence.
before, when we were kids, computers were a tool. My first real experience with a computer was a 286 and my first "real" experience was with an AppleII and I learned how to do a bit of programming on there. Sure there were rudeamentary games, but you had to use your head.
Nowdays, you just get a computer to do two things. Play games and learn, or just play games. I wonder which ones that they have choosen for this survey?
only 20% of people get their news from the internet.
It is my sincere hope that out of the other 80% are watching something like C-Span and staying away from the devil that is the fox news channel. Stations like that are just more the reason we need to get away from TV. Don't get me wrong - I grew up on Married w/ and The Simpsons, but i'm not going to listen to them scream at me that "THE U.N. SUCKS!!"
to the good old side scrolling games? I mean, we had 3d games isolated to the PC and the side scrollers for consoles, and while some games on the XBOX and PS2 like Sudeki are very cool, they are not first person and save a certain aspect.
I look at all the people, including me, who would like a side scroller with outstanding graphics - which could be done quite easily, and I don't see it happening.
Did companies either...
a - decided that side scrollers aren't popular enough, or
b - decided that its easier to basically copy the computer industries years of work?
Sorry for the ran, but i'd just like to see a super graphical mario brothers, or better yet, Metroid. The real metroid - the first one. After they turned it into 3d blasphemy they should have renamed it.
They are called "Eclipse" cigarettes... i'm sure you can google for them.
They aren't smokeless, but definatly noteworthy. They look like a normal cig, but have a heating element that you initially light with a lighter. I think its a carbon filament, so it burns quite hot for about 4 minutes, and while its hot, you can "smoke" the tobacco in the tube. Note that there are no ashes becuase nothing besides tobacco is burned, and the "cig" never shrinks down like a normal one. Also, when you exhale, it is quite wierd... its like you are exhaling water. The cig pack says its mostly a glycerol mix instead of the normal tar laden smoke.

no gmail account, I use weather.com, and i've memorized every map known to map... and I don't have friends. ;)
I see the google search bar
I don't think anyone goes to google for anything besides searching....
My .000002 cents

I say tough cookies to AMD.

not this new mouse... the slashdot effect. I was really wanting to see those images also.
sory, I had to.

(gaud i'm being retardulous now)
be remembered. What if your son or daughter figures out a way to block such a gamma radiation effect?
I can say this becuase I used to be one.
but then we would have gotten into the whole orc vs troll thing in warcraft, and we all know nightelfs rule.
I thought slashdot was for the more tech-savy of us - i'm not trying to be a troll, but jocks don't hang out at the chessclub.

either that or its just "that left wing propaganda to make it look scary"
I'm not looking for a troll here, i'm just smoking some genetically engineered marijuana and it seems like an odd thought.
maybe the Coors twins perhaps? I'm of the age where the olsen twins (anorexic or not) still look like jailbait.
its all a mass conspiracy to herd us like sheep - you can't have the sheep scared now can you? :)

let the government continue to usurp control. GG AMERICA!
