I think it should be noted that the Firefox homepage makes no mention of 0.9 yet. Though, there is a release notes page for it, the links point to 0.8 still. Also, there is nothing in the releases folder on the Mozilla.org ftp for it yet.
Here I am, reading the title, expecting some good spring break action or something... then I come to find out that it's about herds of cows and WiFi at rest stops...
You don't need to buy an Apple laptop to use this thing. It's Windows compatible (both for wireless and iTunes). Though, I would recommend the Apple laptop anyways...;)
I still haven't really seen a problem with this on my blog. I've had comments enabled for the past two years and have maybe gotten 3 or 4 total spam comments in that time (one today actually).
Mine has always been set to not allow anon comments, but I know most people have that set as well.
I have been using MovableType and just haven't really had any problems. Been lucky I guess.
I totally agree with what you're saying, and that's part of what my post was talking about. They just don't know (or expect) that it needs to be updated. No matter how much "publicity" MS tries to create about this stuff, or no matter how many viruses fly around the internet, there are still so many people that just don't update their machines, that it will remain a huge issue.
And someone else mentioned in another reply that SP2 will turn on Automatic Updating for them - I had heard of this, but didn't want to mention it b/c I wasn't sure if it did or not.
Some of this backfires too though. There are people that do realize they may need updates, but then, they get the infamous popups from websites saying some update for so-and-so program is available and "really important" and all this jazz, when really it's just installing spyware on their machine. I've seen this many times in just the past week. "Well, this popup came and said I had to install this search thing to update my system"...
What it comes down to, is that people need to be educated on updating their systems - whether it be WindowsUpdate, Automatic Updates, or what have you. But also, they have to be even more educated on what is safe to download/update and what is not (eg. non MS popup type of stuff).
Obviously, the work is cut out for all of us. Especially those of us in some form of IT that have to help clean these things up and protect the users.
But IMO, part of the problem is that these people are just "aware" that they have to do updates. I can't count the number of people I've told to go to WindowsUpdate to keep up to date and I get the most clueless looking face I've ever seen...
I think Windows is at the very least, doing an admirable job of patching it's flaws, but you can't force people to update. It's another good step to include the Automatic Updating with Windows now, but it's not automatically turned on.
According to Symantec, the F variant of this seems to be the worst, or most prominent. Currently a level 3, here's the SARC page for it: Korgo.F. There is a removal tool available as well.
Main details from top of SARC page:
W32.Korgo.F is a minor variant of W32.Korgo.E. It is a worm that attempts to propagate by exploiting the Microsoft Windows LSASS Buffer Overrun Vulnerability (BID 10108) on TCP port 445. It also listens on TCP ports 113, 3067, and other random ports.
Ya, I knew that was coming too. And that was partly my point. You don't need to spend that much to really get the same functionality - but obviously there are people who will.
I keep seeing that commercial for the new happy meal with the "step counter" in it and that stupid woman walking up the steps while her friend takes the elevator.
Like we're supposed to believe that just because McDonald's gave her a stupid step counter, that she's not going to be lazy and take the elevator.
I'm not sure I played Bloody Wolf (sounds familiar) but I loved the Bonk games.
I can also remember spending hours playing Neutopia (TG16 version of Zelda). I don't think I ever finished that game though, I always got stuck at the same spot.
I can remember playing this game for hours and hours...
The Bonk games were cool too. I know it wasn't a popular system and all, but it was the system I had after I had Atari, so I was hooked on it.
Was really disappointing though because one day I went to ToysRUs to get a couple games and the entire TG16 section was just gone. I found out the hard way that it was discontinued and it was really annoying./me heads over to ebay.
But it's not the 0.9 release.
Right, but 0.9 RC has been out for nearly a week. That isn't news at all. This is supposed to be just for the official 0.9 release.
I think it should be noted that the Firefox homepage makes no mention of 0.9 yet. Though, there is a release notes page for it, the links point to 0.8 still. Also, there is nothing in the releases folder on the Mozilla.org ftp for it yet.
Not too many "other sources" available. The Google News search only lists the GameSpot article.

:(
WTF? How disappointing...
You don't get out much, do you?
But Can I pick up visitors and toss them in the water just like roller coaster tycoon?
So would that be an IP denial?
What if these people really do have numbers in their ass??
Hey, I do what I can. Stay tuned for even more fun!
I'm sure this guy is really wishing this would have been made sooner...
Then again, if it were out at the time, would he have used it?

Ya, it's been in Google for quite some time. Like I said, I never saw the big influx of comment spam. Saw a couple, but never huge numbers.
Yet, I know people that have turned comments on as a test for a few days and have just gotten slammed with spam and turned them right back off.
Who knows. If it becomes a problem for me, I'll look into it more, but right now, it hasn't been an issue, luckily.
Well, aside from being able to forge IPs and such, my question to that would be...
What authorities would you be sending them to? It isn't really "illegal" to spam someone's comments, at least, not that I know of.
I still haven't really seen a problem with this on my blog. I've had comments enabled for the past two years and have maybe gotten 3 or 4 total spam comments in that time (one today actually).

Definitely +5 Insightful.

Actually, I think they came back and corrected themselves saying that was a misunderstanding...

There was an article somewhere - I forget where though...

I believe that they can put the patches on (individually) - but I don't think the service packs will install.
Not 100% sure on that though, maybe someone can confirm or deny.
Main details from top of SARC page: Happy cleaning.
Ha... good catch.
Spelling gnomes again.
And how did no one else catch that?

Well mine cost $1000 and will play UK2k4 just fine... so there! :p
