Sounds like more of a PITA than anything at all... and to me, it doesn't seem like it'll make any difference in keeping information "secure" anyways. Anyone that wants to know anything about our military can probably just watch the news. They seem to tell enough of our "secret" plans most of the time anyways.

So they list two cases of people whining that they paid "consultants" to optimize their sites but got caught. And then make Google out to be the bad guy?

Both of the "businesses" seem shady to me anyways, and their practices on optimization only appear to confirm that. They got caught, Google did what it's supposed to do. Now they're being punished.

Sure, they may have reversed any of said optimization, but as the article even says, it can take 6 months to a year to be indexed again anyways. So take two of these and call us in a year...

This is exactly it... they support what they supplied with the system - hardware or software. What's so wrong about that? Why is everyone throwing a fit about this?

I had Dell do the same thing a while back. I had a network card go in one of their systems, but I had upgraded it to XP (shipped with 2000) and they told me they couldn't help me unless it was in it's original condition. Though the guy on the phone said he'd help me get it back to that state if I wanted... I laughed and hung up. Called back when it was back to "normal" and got service as expected.

That's what I did... my first job out of college was phone support. Thankfully it wasn't for an "outsourcing" company though. It was in-house line. After a year of that I got burnt out too (though some of those people had been there for about 5 yrs before me). I made a transition to desktop support to at least get away from the phones. So now it's more of a "hands on" support role and it's much nicer. Of course not what I'll do forever, but not a bad experience builder either.

It'll probably be an option at some point (if it isn't already). The trouble is that sales tax varies by state/county. So if they leave it open for the seller to put in a % of their choice, buyers will pretty much get screwed on it just like they do on shipping (you know, like charging $10 to ship a dvd via media mail?). It would have to be something automatically added as needed per the buyer's ship to address and the tax rate for that location.

What a PITA that would be though.
