Oh darn... wait, you mean something like [libsdl]? Well, if you don't like that, how about [clanlib]? Oh, I see... you forgot to do any research before you made you groundless claim.
No please not clanlib. It's not endian clean and works real bad on powerpc.
No, no license check occurs via software. IM develeopers could ask and get (pay?) one, but connections from unlicensed clients are likely to go unnoticed.
Yes, they did so 20 years ago. I can't understand why today's Intel processors are so backward-compatible. They would have better results designing something from scratch (or almost). x86 is a very inefficient architecture (compare its performance to Alpha, G4, G5 and Sparc ; compare its power consumption, too).
Just for the record, Fabrice Bellard is also the guy behind FFmpeg and libavcodec (the project that makes mplayer read almost any video file using opensource codecs).
Personal firewalls (ie, firewalls that allow for application filtering as much as IP and port filtering) allow you to decide that your ftp client can access only the server you want it to access. It means you FTP client could not access its home unless you FTP to it yourself;-)
The FTP client example is not the best one though, as the bests FTP clients are either freeware (Leechftp) or open-source (ncftp, gftp)...
Next round of software will be the same: It will require some special hardware components only available in the new machines ( can you say 'trusted computing'? )
Next round of proprietary software may be the same, yes; but I doubt my 4 years old 400MHz powerbook will be able to run gnu/linux with free software before it physically breaks (few years more?).

He basically proposes only allowing a form of hostname which is (1) too long to type manually, and (2) includes long random-looking strings. His justification for this is `users seem to do alright with bookmarks, and as soon as everything is links, no problem!'
As if DNS was only used to browse the web. What about ssh, ftp, mail, all these things that use hand-typed hostnames ?
SSL SMTP does exist, either via a special port (465 iirc) or via the STARTTLS command, which allows mails between two SSL-enabled SMTP servers to be encrypted. Mails I get from some friends (running their own SMTP servers, as I am) are encrypted the whole way from their mailer to mine - considering there are no relays between their SMTP server and my MX.
Unfortunately it must use too much CPU power to be used by most ISPs. Still, some big SMTPs use it, lists.sourceforge.net for example connects to my MX using SSL (Mails coming from them aren't that sensitive though;-)).
No, but as they plan to use this method only to find possible frauds, and investigate them using more standard methods, your point isn't valid.
Don't you think insurance companies have some lawyers paid to think about such issues before spending money on them ?
Sharing audio tapes isn't illegal. So why is sharing (often) equally shitty quality mp3s illegal? It shouldn't be.
I didn't say it should be illegal. It just is and we know it. We make our choices accordingly.
maybe i just made a clwon out of myself.
...
is the g5 on sale already?
Yes.
I wonder if the term "constructed" is really relevant, considering they used a single atom ;-)

as usual from Intel... Just add some megahertz and some cache, it'll be good enough. On paper. What about improving technologies, like IBM or AMD do ?
"404 not found" is a very different error than "NXDOMAIN" (domain does not exist).
Isn't it this one ? ;)
I'm asking because the wording is quite hard to understand as my main language isn't english
U is ASCII 0x55 (85 dec), which is 01010101 in binary. Maybe.
for i in `seq 10`; do dd if=/dev/random of=./my.mp3; done;
or wipe

What fix is it ? I own a DSC-P51 and it works fine using usb-mass-storage on a 2.4.18 kernel...
I can't find any information on how to contact them to get such a license. Do you have any links/addresses regarding this ?
Thanks.

PS: If anyone knows of such OSS projects, advice gratefully accepted... :-)
You may give a look at Freshmeat's Office/business section... I didn't look much further but there seem to be quite a lot of good stuff.
What did motivate your choice of XP ? This is a real question: what do call-centre people need that require windows (XP or another) ?

No thanks, I don't want anything from Microsoft even if it's "free" ;-)
What you describe is needed for an upgrade, not an install. Installing gnome 2 with RH9, for example, is quite as simple as you describe:
Insert Redhat CD, boot, let installation and plug & play take over. It is this easy.

Will internet come to a grinding halt or not?
Why would it ? Mostly clients, not servers, will be hit.
all these years of running Win ME have paid off! so long suckers!
You meant "trying to run" Win ME, didn't you?
