    No, that is what they are waiting to warm it up to. Right now, it gets down to between -56C and -62C (-70F to -80F) regularly.

    deleted != zeroed. A zeroed drive has been entirely overwritten with zeroes. The software you are talking about recovers deleted files, where the file data is still on the disk.

    What is especially interesting is that google and microsoft can actually correlate the multiple accounts you have with each other, based on login/creation ip, referral email, and probably other characteristics. a few months ago there was a post on here linking to one of those companies' forensics guides explaining exactly that.

    I don't think that's too much of a problem, because EULAs only work because people just click through them. I'm pretty sure that putting in your SSN would stop a lot of people...

    Do you know how large a hospital's network is? They have to be internet-connected, or else the sheer cost of laying cable to every doctor that services their provider network, every outpatient care center, every laboratory service station would be enormous.

    WMD isn't about the actual history of attack. There hasn't been a nuke detonated in an offensive capacity since World War II, but that hasn't stopped them from being a preoccupation of defense strategy since then. It's about the fear. And the concept of hundreds of thousands of zombie computers attacking an institution without the proper defenses could be devastating, especially if that institution is critical to the public health/safety.

    If you do the research, and find out what you are choosing, then, yes it is thinking. But if Newbie User, who only managed to figure out that Windows XP Home version is the one she wanted because it says Home in the name, is confronted with the lists of dozens of choices, how is she supposed to know which one to pick? And how does she know that choosing the wrong one won't break her computer. Having too many choices is a problem for people who don't want to have to become computer experts.

    its because all the subscribers with their "future" stories viewing used all the bandwidth. now thats a small webserver, or else lots of people are subscribing to slashdot.

    i liked gta3, but there is no multiplayer, so it gets no position on any of my systems (mostly lan party). they had a lot of the work inplace, up to the multiplayer icons/interface, but didnt enable it.

    Every credit card number has what is called a "natural" pin number. This is a hash of the whole card number in some complicated way, probably with some key from the ATM also. if you have a different pin number, the offset from the natural pin is in the clear on the card.
    breaking the pin is infeaseable, much easier to buy something. The pin discourages you from trying to get cash, which is hard to mark as "inconsistent".

    sudo tcsh works better for most people, and sudo -s is the best, as it keeps your evironment variables the same, but you get a root shell.

    I have an apple Pro keyboard which came with my tower. The key heights are all perfect when rearranged to dvorak. I now know why they cost $60 to replace.

    You don't have to blanket the world in CDs and cover TV with ads and try to install your software 20 times a week on my PC to get your message across.
    You may not need that, but most AOL users do. If they can't easily, cluelessly install it, then they won't.
