You know, i haven't used debian in about a year.. but i used debian for years and that HAS to be the fastest i have ever seen kde released for debian.. very impressive indeed. hats off to the package maintainer on that one
umm... i'm an apple fan boy? since this powerbook is my first mac product ever? hrm... ya ok.. i've owned 10+ pc's during my computer using existance and i've had 1 mac... yup, apple fan boy.
suprisingly with student discount the 15" pb was cheaper than a similarly equiped ultra thin thinkpad (you know the worlds thinest laptop)..
i believe the thinkpad had 40 gig hard drive, 14.1" screen, and geforce 5200 go or something like that
the powerbook had 60gig hard drive, 15" widescreen, ati radeon 9700... for $50 more i think i got the better deal
the iTMS songs sound pretty good on my Klipsch Pro Media 4.1's... about as good as a cd, i can't tell the difference.
besides, as i've said before, it's about being able to get something the way you want it. i'd rather spend 99 cents on a song that doesn't sound perfect but at the same time i don't have to buy a $10-15 cd to get that one song either. it's a trade off i and many others seem to agree about. stop yer bitchin and deal with it, if it's not right for you, don't use it... in the mean time people who do find it convienent will use it..
no but the scripted events and location of monsters can certainly make you shit your pants. it's not the graphics.. sure they're great but the gameplay is great and the story and timing of things makes it scary... the graphics just provide the atmosphere in which these all happen..
i agree that the price was high for this. $54.99 at best buy today. $58 and some change after taxes. i haven't bought any games recently but thought that it was kinda high.
BUT the single player game is supposed to be incredible. and the benefit of any id game is that the mod community will have a blast with this. so they'll handle your multiplayer aspect i'm sure. trust me though. so far the single player experience is WOW... crap your pants fantastic;)
odd.. your setup is different. i guess i'll update my video drivers (i think they're up to date but i'll double check) and defrag and see if that helps any.
it runs pretty good.. but does get choppy in areas.. it's TOTALLY playable though, not sure how it'll be with more characters on screen but we'll see soon enough.
i understand there reasoning behind the dark stuff. i'm trying to get past it without during the brightness up but the beginning was offly dark.. i think my screen's brightness might be a tad low. anyone have a good screen brightness calibration for this kind of stuff?
btw.. i got this from the Icons video that was posted on here about doom 3 within the past 2 weeks or so. carmack stated he was going to do something new.
they said they're doing something totally new... quake 4 is being done by someone else, and the wolfenstein series is being done by someone else.. so they're doing something totally new this time around and they should be starting on it soon.
And it's good:) doesn't run so hot on my setup though..
amd athlon xp 2400+
512mb ddr 400
7200rpm hard drive
nvidia geforce 4 ti 4400 (128mb)
it doesn't detect my surround sound setup (sb live! with klipsch pro media 4.1's)
it runs at medium detail @ 640x480 and gets pretty choppy in places...
my only complaint so far is that it's so dark that even the flashlight doesn't even really let you see much (i'm trying not to turn my brightness up but it seems i may have to so i don't keep running into guard rails and such)...
overall though.. i think the intro was a bit long.. i wanna kill stuff.. and kill it i shall... after the 15-20 minute introduction:-/ great for the story.. bad for my trigger finger
i've bought 140 songs from itms. probably a good 40 or 50 of them were from the pepsi promotion. but with my klipsch pro media speakers they don't sound bad either. my monsoon stereo in my car seems to like them too because it sounds like any other cd. ya.. i agree 128kbps is kinda low and i wish they'd raise it to 160kbps or 192kbps but oh well.
this gives me a way to buy single songs from those cd's that have 1 or 2 good songs on them and not spend $10-15 to get those 1 or 2 good songs. even if they quality isn't cd quality i still saved myself a crap load of money by buying them this way.
if you looked through my itms smart folder you'd notice that it's all 1 or 2 songs by an artist and not full cd's. I still buy the full cd's from a store like best buy or cdnow.com. but when it comes to a couple songs on a cd that sucks other than those couple songs.. i'll take the DRMed low quality than paying $10-15 for them.
that whole page is full of rubbish. the problem isn't the artists getting zero money, it's the contract they signed with their record company. now the record company dictates how much money they get. that's their own fault.
Maximum PC did something like this awhile back to usb thumbdrives.. they all worked fine.. not sure how these other guys would react but it was a good article.. they did some crazy stuff like this but made it realistic too.. i believe they put them in the dryer, and ran over them with a SUV lol...
too many other costs involved in maintaining the stuff... 50 cents is kinda small per song... think of bandwidth costs, how much did the servers cost and i bet they add more on a fairly fast pace or at least more storage, programming, itunes updates, etc... i bet they're making maybe pennies off that 50 cents after the other costs go through... they make more on the ipods.
nasa did this a long time ago. it's been stated it's fairly easy to get to where scaled is going tomorrow, getting BEYOND that is EXTREMELY hard and VERY risky... nasa is doing that.. hence the sheer power of the space shuttles.. also, they did it in a small budget but it only carries 3 people and the pilot (i think right?) and nothing else.. while the space shuttle is a full on science lab, etc.. there's more to it.. though these early flights will pave the way for more what nasa is doing now possibly, it's still very difficult to get beyond where we're going tomorrow. lots more power and speed required.
Woah man, i drive a 2001 Buick Regal GS and a 1972 Buick Skylark with a vintage '70 Buick 455 producing 410hp and 515ft/lbs of torque.. i don't watch dargonball z, i do like lord of the rings, but i have read the books, i like unix, i also use windows and admit it, though i don't use IE except on new installs to download the latest mozilla or opera.i don't like rice, i like muscle cars... i like the ipod because it's useful and i like the iTMS and iTunes is one of the best audio players i have ever used. winamp is nice and all but geeze, iTunes organizes things so well.. the ipod was a natural choice for this.. don't knock it till you try it, and dammit, don't stereotype everyone
better yet.. when a vulnerability becomes known, how long does it normally take a free implementation to fix the problem (in the compromised program)? compared to microsoft?
we were going to have dish installed tomorrow, but we put it on hold due to this. what do you guys recommend anyway? just curious.. those channels do affect my family, not necessarily me but my family so it does matter that i get those channels.. directv better or what?
It's not a big deal, if it turns out he wasted his money, then so be it. it was more of a way to protect his business, if something happens and the tables turn, he's not going to be sued and have to pay that, in other words, the cost of being sued would be way more than having to buy these licenses. it was just simply more cost affective to buy the licenses and if they turn out to be trash, so what, the customers who had doubts had peace of mind at this point.

where'd you get that "life" wallpaper at? I wouldn't mind using that one myself

ok i played with the settings in the control panel.. it now uses surround sound in doom 3.. thanks for that tip!
btw.. i got this from the Icons video that was posted on here about doom 3 within the past 2 weeks or so. carmack stated he was going to do something new.
here is the link to the story
