but I fail to see why more traditional advertisers can pay-per-play to get their message out, but the RIAA (which has music as its product, thus radio play seems comparable to giving out free samples of product) cannot?
One reason I think this is bad is because the record labels control the destiny of so much of the musical talent that they can make and break the artist based on their distribution. A lot of that being the radio stations.
Hence, music goes from being something of a meritocracy (where the best is played more often) to a sham (where the artist who signs their life away to the recording studio gets the most play.)
Now, it's a given that somebody will make the decision on the playlist anyway so really this will only have an impact if it's combined with laws that require more ownership fragmentation across media outlets.
This looks very cool - I wonder what the system requirements are besides accelerated video? Anybody using this yet that would like to chime in on it?
As much as some people like to bad-mouth eye-candy, it's one of the reasons I've been able to swtich so many people from Windows. First you 'Wow' them with the eye-candy and then you tell them about the stability and lack of viruses.. 9/10 times the next question is 'why don't more people use it.' Eventually they feel like they know a secret and buy a mac. Likewise, this would be a nice 'wow' for people looking to introduce the layman to gnu/linux.
Looks like the Gentoo folks put up a survey intended for current users asking for feedback. I hope posting that link here doesn't result in flames or bogus responses.. they have enough work to do without trolls so please answer responsibly.
Just like in other industries, a good amount of producers and a huge amount of consumers, but limited distribution (Walmart, McDonalds, Home Depot, etc.) I can't remember the last time I saw clothing may in the US. At the same time, almost everything I see (not buy) is really expensive despite the 'cost savings' the distributor gets from outsourcing to Vietnam, China, etc.
WEP is not completely hooked up yet, so while you can associate with an
encrypted AP, you won't be able to communiate (no DHCP, no data, etc.)
Unfortunately, without WEP (are they shooting for 40bit or 128bit?) it won't be much good for everyday use. Still, a great step in the right direction. Also, headline writer should note that it supports 802.11b as well as 802.11g..
I currently use the Kerio mailserver for Mac OSX (client) and it's very good. Support is outstanding but that might be more because of the size of the organization than any intended policy. Still, I've upgraded the system software on my Mac (via software update) and the Kerio software (via manual download) numerous times and never had a glitch.
That being said, I think the problems with Kerio include lack of good collaboration tools (but again, that's not the product they are selling), and the inability to support any linux except enterprise red hat or RH9. Although with their latest release they now support Fedora core. Would love to see SuSE support or Debian support (hey, it doesn't change that often!)
When we used tapes to load software on computers I heard it was possible to record tapes from the radio and then use (or upload if you will) those tapes onto your computer. Prior art may even go back all the way to downloading software from Radio.
I generally use my SX1 for all my PDA functions these days. It doubles to play my OGG files and I can even watch some old South Park videos on it. The only reason I value a PDA at all after owning this phone is for the ability to use it on an airplane...
It sounds silly, but if we could disable the phone part of a smartphone it could actually be more useful!
I have to agree. My company has over 250,000 SKUs and many are very similar in shape and size but are assigned different part numbers. In some cases the reasons for this might be minor and unimportant but the majority of times it's something very substantial like material composition.
After RTFA I can't say I saw much of what he liked about 9.1. "The next least favorite thing for me.."
I've never used SuSE before but, beta or no, this hardly encourages me to give it a try. Not that that's so bad.. there's a distro for everyone after all.. still I would have liked to hear more about the integration of Ximian and SuSE under Novell's stewardship.
The problem with all of these, IMHO, is that they're heavy and/or thick. I'm sticking with my PowerBook G4 precisely because I can get 64MB VRAM and decent processing power under 6# and about 1.1" thick.
Voodoo has one (I think it was the 460) that was great on paper with the exception of missing bluetooth and having questionable battery life..
It's bad enough that DC get's no representation but now we don't even warrant a listing here despite the fact that Maryland and Virginia (the local parasites that actually make up 90% of the 'greater Washington Metro area' BS) are numbers 4 and 5.
After seeing a number of doctors in SF regarding a kidney stone that just would not pass (over 1 month with the damn thing!), I had the fortune of being in Bombay. On a particularly hard day our local rep took me to see a doctor. While I wouldn't want to expose anyone to the conditions of this particular 'hospital', the doctor was very nice and actually took the time to explain what he was going to prescribe and what it would do. Within 24 hours my stone passed.
This is in stark contrast to the jerk who 'helped' me in SF. "Yeah, drink a lot of water. That'll be $400"
Funny, but I don't remember plagerizing anything. In fact, the only thing I remember was typing the comment using my nifty PBG4. Shame on you for accusing me. Instead you should be brave enough to show your face and accept that somebody has a similar opinion.
I really enjoy both Sci-Fi and Fantasy, but what I wouldn't give for a novel that just ended without dragging me into 3 or more books. I just don't have time to read 3 in a row and I don't have patience to wait for them to keep coming out. (I am aware I'm being picky here)
I know that the authors have investigated serious time in creating their world, but I'm not proposing never using the world again.. just give the particular character and plot a rest. Outside of the franchises (Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Star Trek) that pump out more than I want to keep track of, I don't see much.
The last good one I read: Tigana
The last bad one I read: Wheel of Time Series (OMG-will it EVER end?)
Maybe this has been answered already, but does anyone know whether SCO's board or management can face criminal charges if all these allegations are proved unsubstantiated?
I too really enjoyed Fallout 1&2 but had never heard the 3rd one was in progress. I hope that some organization picks up the genre though. It's nice that there are some RPGs that are not set in the medieval universe but none really had the flavor that Fallout did. A follow-up, whether it was called Fallout3 or not, would be welcome by me as long as it:
-retained the ability to name/improve your char -supported portraits (c'mon guys it's not that hard! -allowed different weapons and strategies -had a nice 3D system like NWN
I know that last one might be a little controversial, but after getting used to zooming and panning in the 3D world it's hard to go back to pixels..
C'mon now - this the same country that has warnings designed to prevent people from accidentally swallowing photocopier toner. What do you think would happen if somebody actually ate one of these and got really really sick? (hint: the answer contains the words law and suit)
A few years back they did an analysis of the costs versus benefits of various high speed options. I recall that the MagLev's were way too expensive for the speed you got. As I remember, best results were somewhere in the 180mph range with European style trainsets.

Click here or next time just google.

Is it powered by coffee too?
It would have limited functionality in my case.

Back in 1999 there was a guy at Apple who's name (as posted outside his cube) was Bo3b. I believe the '3' was silent.
Sucks to be us, I guess.

Except maybe in Swaziland, where this smiling man may consider buying it for full retail so he can find another reason not to feed his people.

And I was just about to complain about my little G4 cube too...
Yes, I know they have different audiences and uses.. please use your sense of humor subroutine before flaming.
Then get one of these . Voodoo has had a 64 bit AMD laptop for quite a while now.
