It has been well known that this stuff is dial-a-riot type protests, the numbers are relatively tiny and to many cases of so called "spontanous" protests about stuff that either was released decades earlier or so obscure it could never have been heard of by the protestors unless someone went to the trouble of telling them.
The basic message is simple: The Islamic powers that be see the decline of the Islamic world and instead of catching up by modernizing their world, they seek to keep what control they can by creating theocracies, where the rule is to not question those in charge. It keeps the population dumb and controllable but also backward and unable to matter in the real world.
A perfect example was shown with Olympics. Saudia Arabia had fielded a female Judoka but insisted she would be allowed to wear a headscarf. Probably the first thing you picture when thinking of Judo is the standard uniform, which has no head covering. It never had, wasn't needed to appease any country ever before. But Saudia Arabia needed to be appeased because else they might withdraw. So the woman was allowed to disregard safety, disregard tradition and wear a piece of kit nobody else was allowed to wear...
AND LOST
Immidiatly, she didn't stand a chance! Not even the slightest. She was the worsed to ever take part in the modern olympics.
She wasn't put into her countries team to win or even to compete, she was put in to be harmless enough to not upset Saudi Arabians while at the same time playing the "the world hates islam" card by hoping she would be barred because of the headscarf. She wasn't and it became clear thar SA biggotted nature simply meant they had no women worthy of competition.
It is easier to shout loudly "rah rah us" and blame everything on them, then to risk modernizing your country and have the people wonder why this old men are in charge. England works that way, "trust us the 1% conservatives, we will fix your country because you are great, trust us". The USA loves its rousing "We are #1" waving made in China banners.
And around the world, were the powers that be have made a mess of things, religion is a good card to rally your troops around the leaders in support rather then looking for a handy rope.
Why do you think backwater North-ireland had religious strife? Because it was managed so well economically? Why do you think the orthodox church is back in power in Russia, because the last time they were in charge, they did so well economically?
No, but in economic hard times when people can't improve themselves or society, they become susceptible to religious control telling them they are right and everyone else is wrong.
Because keeping the people stupid is a good way to control people, but when times are hard, people also prefer to be kept stupid. Easy answers are so much easier.
You are 100%, a tablet does 90% of what you need it to do. 90%. I don't get paid to do 90% of my job, I get payed to do 100% of it. I expect most people expext that a job gets done the full 100%.
Ergonomic keyboards are an example. They are perfectly usuable 90% of the time and when you need to hold a phone and type with one hand, they are not.
And that may only happen 1 in a thousand far less then your 10% but it still means they are not as usuable.
The is reason the PC is a general purpose machine because it FULLY needs to cover ALL requirements, not just a select few.
The entire article is a MS fanboy dream, an old dream, the dream that the next version of Windows Mobile will sell. You can read the article and get to it pretty quick:
What I don’t think Google are taking into account (or at least not publicly talking about) is what’s going to happen when I can go out and buy an Intel based Windows 8 tablet or even phone
That is his entire argument, Eric Schmidt is wrong because people might suddenly start buying a product from a company that hasn't managed to sell that product in a decade, yeah that is how long MS has been trying to get one of their phones to sell.
It could happen of course. And Apple could stop selling the iPhone as if their hot cakes and pigs could fly and I could get laid when I tell a girl I am a programmer. I don't think it is very likely though.
Anyway MS fanboys, WP8 is almost out, isn't it time for you to start admitting that the current version isn't 100% but the NEXT one, that one will take the world by storm and finally see MS phones reach sales outside people who were forced to.
The think the MS fanboys just don't get. PEOPLE loathe/have utter contempt for Microsoft. Or maybe resentment is a better word for it although al these words sound to passionate. The word Microsoft is to most consumers dog poo on the sidewalk you can't get around. Not worth hating just one of lifes annoyances you got to put up with.
And so they go into a store and see a shiny iPhone or a usuable Android phone of a cheap symbian feature phone and a pile of dog poo just begging for a shoe. And they step around it, because they can. Windows is something you use, because you are forced to. People LOVE switching to OSX, you can't shut up the Linux users about how free they are but windows users. "mwah, I have to use it for work and it came with my PC and I need it for games". No windows user says "Yeah, I LOVE using it, it enables me, it enriches me".
This is okay, the sugar industry doesn't have any fans either but it sells billions of tons of the stuff. Nobody likes the petrol companies but they still make a fortune. But none of these try to use their loathing filled logo's to sell something the customer doesn't need and has more attractive alternatives for.
MS greatest mistake is that they have always been to arrogant to openly admit their shit stinks, they truly believe they got wonderful stuff. The customer has a different view and has left MS products it has an alternative to on the shelves.
Easy proof? MS keyboards and mice. They are not bad. But who buys them? Nobody! Nobody will admit to buying a MS keyboard. There are plenty of fan sites for logitech products but a MS keyboard? People just hide it and claim it came with the PC. You can make billions with a necessary product that people loathe but you can't launch a new gadget with that reputation.
That is why MS does not matter in this list. The other companies people "like". MS they merely put up with.
Lets face it, your old, fat and ugly and if you sit in the interview chair, you overflow and make the property value shed 10% of its value.
So, what can you do to make yourself attractive to the lead developer who is probably younger then you and convinced that anyone older is senile?
Well, how about this:
I know how to debug and love solving problems in an application, I really get a kick out of digging out obscure errors from customer tickets and fix them.
---
Suddenly, your salary and other requirements will seem insignificant if the person interviewing you has spent ANY time in development. There are plenty of hotshot kiddies around who want and can program the next big thing but try to get them to fix an issue that is having the customer treatening to leave and they can't/won't want to do it.
Sure debugging sucks and it ensures the remainder of your life is a joyless misery stretched out for... well lets face it, at your age, next week when you will die of a heart attack on the toilet and the paramedics will make fun of your penis.
Reality check is in order, age discrimination exists in IT so make it work in your favor. Old farts are not hip with the on thing dog (see how hip I am?) but young whipper snappers don't know about quality or getting things done or security or stability... so sell yourself on your perceived strengths. Make that young dynamic team think you are going to help them be more professional and NOT hitting the 20th something boss with your cane telling him to speak up.
I would stay away from stuff like iOS, you can't sell the benefit of your experience and the patience of old age to an industry that thinks long term planning is thinking what to do for lunch at 11:00am. None of the languages you have used have gone out of use but focusing on language is the wrong thing, there is always a kid with a longer list. He can't do shit in it but the list is there. Instead, focus on core experience, on understanding of the industry on acquired wisdom...
Our oxygen is plant shit, the co2 is other peoples shit, your vegetables grow on shit, your meat eats shits, you cook it on farts, you walk on shit and some of us consider clothes made from shit to be the height of luxury.
It is a shitty world and it worse for those who believe in homeopathy.Water has memory? Oh good, so does it remember having been pissed out billions of times over the lifetime of the earth? And if water has memory, why doesn't it remember the time it was beer!
And which country outsourced its production to China? Oh wait, American CEO's and shareholders did that for the benefit of their customers and workers.
In parts of the US, if your car is used in a drugs crime, you are responsible. You can go to jail for someone borrowing your car to buy a joint.
Is that right or wrong? It is the law and the law is made by politicians who are elected by the people. And the people are NOT you nor the people on the internet forum you visit.
The people are an unseen group who do all the things that are uncool and out of date and they make up the rules of society, NOT to benefit some teen who thinks he knows how the world should run but to the benefit of them, or so they think.
The war on drugs was introduced by politicians who got re-elected. The war on copyright pretty much the same. Yes, this does show democracy sucks donkey balls for doing the "right" thing. It also shows that what is the "right" thing, no two people can agree upon.
It will be intresting to see how this case goes. From precedent, it could go either way.
As a European it is hard to see how big the Patriot Guard movement really is, but it seems MUCH bigger then anything the religious fundies can get together.
It is kinda nice. It resembles the British attitude to the brown shirts. Not so much a love of equal rights and multi-cultural as "fuck off you twats and hands of our people".
I take a middle class biker who hates hate over a bleeding heart liberal anytime, because I know which one will be more useful when the shit goes down.
People forget what PETA really stands for. They want ALL animals to be free, includings pets such as cats, since "owning" a cat is abuse in their eyes.
If you wanted to show the American voter is willing to go that far, you would show laws aimed at REALLY protecting kids most dangerous enemy, the average driver. You don't. The greatest child killer in the USA goes free and unchecked.
People are willing to do a lot of meaningless things to feel good but they won't do anything real. That is why PETA will fail.
In dutch, but the NOS reported that a Brazillian in Australia was killed after taking LSD and being reported as having committed an armed robbery while in reality stealing two rolls of biscuit, by being tasered 14 times AFTER police tried to subdue him with teargas and the police stick.
Powned reports just the biscuits and the tasering.
Gosh, can you guess which website is a troll website?
I can.
First rule of reading internet stories, find the WHOLE story. You will be suprised at the bits people conveniently leave out to have a story slant their way.
Mind you, this story has a further bit:
The post on the girls support site, it wasn't made by the guy who made the joke post. Somebody else apparently copied it from his facebook page to the girls site.
Is this true? I don't know, to many story submissions with to many angles.
But there are really two kind of people. Those who aim a laser at an aircraft, and those who don't.
Those who do think that EVERYONE does it, that is their defence and they think EVERYONE else is also stupid enough not to realize their possible consequences of their actions. But this group, while small is not just near insane, they are also VERY VERY LOUD.
So in every discussion, they shout out about their actions and make the rest think that apparently it is normal after all to be an asshole. It isn't. Their favorite battle cry is "have you never been a teenager and did something stupid".
Honest answer for the majority: "No I haven't".
Proof? If all of us REALLY did it, the world would be a hell hole. Take something as simple as speeding, if it was really something all of us did all the time, then there would be a LOT more traffic tickets. It is a small percentage that speeds all the time that accounts for the number of traffic tickets. You can drive on the highway yourself and see that the majority are following the speed limit.
Same with tying cans to cats. NOBODY does this, except a few sociopaths who then shout out about it making the world think this is normal behavior. It isn't.
It even has more serious consequences, part of women's lib wanted women to have the same sexual freedom men had. But did men, the majority of men really have that much sexual freedom? If men could sleep around, they needed women to do that with, so logically, the rates are the same on both sides. Yet there is a generation where you had some women jealous of men's freedom to have multiple partners while for most men, this simply ain't the case at all.
Check for yourself, have you ever increased the number of female sexual partners in conversation?
Right, because we believe the "media" story of the few to be the norm. If a hollywood star has a thousand girls, then so must everyone else. Nope, sorry.
We got to stop treating the freaks of our society as normal. Shining a laser at an aircraft is not normal. It ain't fun, it ain't harmless, it ain't something any normal person has any reason or desire to do.
Que the loud sociopaths protesting that they are normal after all: GO!
Gosh, I happen to like the program QI and Edison I learned from that program was a thief. Jeremy Clackson described Ford as someone about who nothing good could be said with Ford being an outright nazi and Disney is not much better.
If that is supposed to be Jobs GOOD legacy bit, I hate to see what his BAD legacy is going to look like.
The real legacy of these people is now after all that they didn't real do what they did, that what they did had already been done and that their personalities sucked.
Jobs didn't invent the smartphone, he didn't invent the computer and if he had never been, tech would still have happened just with different logo's. There is a lesson in there, humanity is more then just a handful of names. And our advances happened at multiple times in multiple locations, it doesn't depend on ONE person. The one person type people are the ones who like to think in thousand year empires. I actually find it quite comforting that if X didn't introduce the phone, Y would have. I don't need fake heroes to look up to. Jobs was a prick and his legacy will either be that he made such a terror of himself that Apple failed immediately without him OR he made such a terror and when he died Apple did just fine without him.
Either ending, he is still a prick. And what did it all get him? An early grave. If you wonder why I hate him? He sought out alternative medicine at the end, lending credibility to that evil which has seen the death of many.
Your fucking stupid. Your dog can't understand a picture because it has your IQ. Creatures like apes have already shown a capacity to regonize their fellow apes from pictures, so it is safe to assume that anyone with intelligence who sees in the visual spectrum can understand pictures.
And as for aliens relying on other senses, they are space farers. We can use instruments to see with other senses, so would they.
Geez, try again moron. There are problems communicating with a totally alien life form but they are not OVER whether they cannot see a picture but over whether it will mean the same thing to them.
And the point about art, which is what this is, is that it doesn't have to.
This is a "Here I am!" project. Whatever they make of it, it don't matter, just that they know, we were here.
I am still not convinced MS isn't doing another "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish". They embraced DNT, then they extended it by turning it on by default which extinguished because the industry now refuses to support it.
Mind you, this could only be true if MS was a totally evil company that does anything for a buck. Which could never be true of course for one of the most respected software and advertising companies in the world.
I couldn't be more torn if was asked to vote AGAINST children being allowed to play outside BUT the person telling me to let the kids play outside had his pants around his ankles. And the child is a nazi.
I mean, who do I root for? The advertisers? Microsoft? IE users? People who don't know how to install ghostery and ad-block?
Can't we mandate that when forced to choose between two evils, we get another option, KILL THEM ALL!
Be a helluva lot better in the long run to get the government OUT of picayune regulation, let the crooked banks actually FAIL, and toss the crooks in jail.
So tell me shit for brains, if there is no regulation, on what charges would you throw the crooks in jail? Without regulation, there ain't no crooks.
The real problem in documenting is why teachers have to spend 4 years in school to teach subjects they already passed the exam on years or even decades ago. Teaching is HARD.
Because IT IS NOT HARD TO WRITE for YOU. If I write an application or design a user interface or build a tool or design a game, then I know what I am doing, know what needs to be done and how to do it. To then switch myself into your mindset (arrrrgh! the HORROR!) and see my application with your limitted skillset, dimwitted logic and bad breath, well, that is hard. That is why ex-teachers are so welcome in IT to do training because they are trained to train people. And training adults after training 6 year olds is marginally easier because you are allowed to hit adults.
Writing good teaching material (and that is what a manual is) is hard because you need to add just enough information to fill the gaps in the readers knowledge, without flooding them with stuff they already know causing them to skip RTFM and missing the information they do need to know.
Doesn't help that the average user is a self-entitled prick with the attention span of a gnat. Writing manuals is a skill all in itself and one few are willing to pay for.
There really are pointy haired bosses and ClickOnThis is one of them.
Nobody reads daily reports, they are useless. And if you need to read them, you are useless.
You see, in a real company and not in manager lala-land, people got their tasks and they are given them by other people. Only those people really need to know. If you need to know about an activity, you need to know in advance and if you don't need to know, you don't need to know. And nobody is going to spend hours after the office closed reading what other people did. And do it in the morning? Then you are one of those time wasters.
The only people that think daily reports are useful are clueless managers who have no idea what is going on but are re-assured that since they get a list each day, something must have happened. The trick is to just fill such reports with enough random activity to look busy without taking to much time to generate and then concentrate on whatever you are doing for real. In a big enough company, it don't even matter. It is better to be thought spending weeks on a dozen trivial tasks then a single day working on one important one. Daily reports are not valued by their accuracy, but by their length. And be sure to put ANY tasks you possibly might get any time in the future,is part of the TODO list, it makes you look on top of things.
I fear one day getting a competent manager, I wouldn't know what to do. Luckily the changes of that happening are zero.
Ten to one ClickOnThis will one day introduce the daily report at the end of the day and the breakfast standup.

"Pesticides in organic production"
You really are an idiot aren't you? Pesticides in organic production are things like lady bugs that eat aphids instead of spraying on chemicals.
I think I would be able to spot it if there are lady bugs still present on the vegetables in the shop.
But a moron like you will never get such a thing.
Well that finishes me for moving to the netherlands.
Good.
Do it yesterday.
It shouldn't. But it does.
Documentation is something you will do tomorrow, if you have time. You never have.
You want to RTFM? Pay someone to WTFM.
What do you think the letter section is?
Oh and what are you doing when you create a post on slashdot which generates revenue from advertising?
