Not really, at that point the cost of serving will be built into the advertising contract.

Not only that, but we already do this for clients who want to serve ads that are larger/heavier than our standard ad units. It's a pretty standard business practice - you'll get x impressions of your ad unit, which can be no larger than y KB, etc.

Here's a case where it should work and will very likely NOT become blacklisted:

You subscribe to a service that lets you see Cable TV on any device on your LAN, or you put a TV card on your home computer. You then put an inbound VPN on your LAN. You go on vacation abroad. You tunnel in and watch American TV from Britain or, if your home is in the UK, you watch BBC in America. Not only is this unlikely to be spotted, but since you are already a paying customer, it's unlikely to make anyone want to shut you down as long as you keep it to yourself.

Sure if you factor in the cheap panels from China the averages look favourable; but as I mentioned in another post if you look at the quality panels, over time the change is not as drastic.

I have personally been watching the prices of panels to buy for an installation, and the quality panels have not come down that much in any sources I have seen. Maybe I am looking at the wrong suppliers, or maybe I should just buy some chinese panels of questionable quality, I don't know.

I don't believe this to be accurate, while China has been flooding the market with cheaper panels in the last couple of years, you always get what you pay for.

If you look at the good quality panels from companies like Sharp the prices have not dropped anything like what you have suggested. The prices on them have come down, and the panels use better technology now, so you can get some bigger wattage panels which is nice, but they are still not yet price efficient for your average household (at least up here in Canada).

I would be interested to know what size installations your neighbours have, what kind of backup they have in place (grid tie or generator), and how often they rely on that backup.

Trying to generate enough solar to live at the same level you are when connected to the grid, requires either a backup ($$!) or to be way over-engineered (also $$!) compared to a location further south. The downside to living up north is we not only get less sunshine/day, in the winter when you really need it, it's really cold out as well, which generally drives up power demands.

"...drastically diminishing the "it cant play flash video" bashing competitors like to use."

I see this all the time, so let's try and clear this up. Content providers are typically *contractually required* to use flash video because it affords some level of DRM/content protection which HTML5 does not and is not planning to offer. While it is commonly known in tech savvy circles that pretty much all of Adobe's content protection has been broken (RTMPE, SWF Verfication, etc), studios still require content providers to implement these protection measures.

Further to the above, this is just a change to Flash Media Server, so if a website is still using a flash based player to deliver video then iOS will still continue to be locked out. This doesn't mean all websites that have flash video players will start working on iOS if they upgrade to this new version of FMS.

As regards to the original article, you can deliver flash video over RTMP/RTMPE to iPhone/iPad just by publishing your flash/flex application for iOS as a cross-compiled AIR app, so I'm not sure why this new addition to FMS matters, but I suppose it can't hurt :)
