Thanks for your reply. I mean a client of mine is at some random big comapny behind their firewall and can't change anything. Just has some Winows box and IE 6, they can run an executable though, and flash and java. That's it for them. I can setup a server and do anything on my end. Looking for a way for me to easily initiate a session with that person where they can see my screen, and I can see theirs and share they keyboard and mouse if need be.

It's a tricky wierd one I know, just thought I'd veer off topic and ask. I'm going to spend more time looking into VNC as you sugest, havn't used it in years. Thanks!

I can't wait to get myself their new 20 inch iMac.

The ONLY thing I will still need windows for is to have a service like GoToMeeting where I can share my screen, or let someone else share their screen with me and I can control their keyboard and mouse (other party needs to be windows, mac optional but nice to have). Has to be firewall friendly, not VNC. Anyone know anything like GoToMeeting where I can host meetings on Mac? For many reasons I don't want Virtual PC as part of the solution.

Apple kicks ass. Seriously. What a sweet box with *nix goodies inside. I give them props.

You were given a task that can't be done cheap or simple. The best path to success IMO with the specs you described, is to pick up the phone and call IBM or SUN and say "Help!". Chances are you will end up with something where the cost per gig is going to be very close to what you would pay had you done it yourself, but without all of the wasted time and wrong choices.

Want to save lots of money? Go lean on the support by learning what you have, how to take care of it, and SUPPORT the system yourself.

Just for kicks, call up a sales rep at Iomega and let then know you want to do this with ZIP disks. Record it and blog the MP3 of their head exploding.

You are right. I should have said "For Windows users". I have XP Tablet edition on my Tablet, and Powerbook OS X 10.4 as main comp when home. I also use, grudgingly, NeoOffice. Bless them for the effort, but it's a damn shame OpenOffice 2.0 does not work on OS X like it does on Windows.

That said, I am happy to pay for good software when it's worth it, and IMO Apples software Pages kicks ass, it's a rethink on work processing and really combines Word Processing and Page Layout together in one app that takes automatic themes to a new level.

  23. FOr all you Office users... on Office + OpenDocument, Never Say Never · · Score: 4, Informative

JUST DO IT. Go to http://www.openoffice.org/ and download it. It installs cleanly, uninstalls cleanly, and does not interfere at all with your current install of MS Office (just choose "NO" when asked if you want to link OpenOffice to MS Office file types).

Use it, and I bet most, if not all of you, will find yourself not needing MS Office.

Oh, and try that Save to PDF button. Yum.

    Good night, and good luck!

  24. Still comes up short. on Palm and RIM to Collaborate on Treo Software · · Score: 2, Interesting

From what I read, it will sync Mail and Cal. People are getting used to the latest Blackberry Enterprise server, which also does Contacts and Tasks. MS Outlook 2003 Exchange + Mobile 5 (read: Treo 700) will support Mail/Cal/Con/Task/Notes. If this really is only e-mail and Cal, it's not enough IMO and people will flock to Treo 700 because they want "all of outlook" and not "some of it".

Palm has also said this was in the works for well over a year and a half, with no resolution. What gives that they finally got this out the door, all-be-it in a feature-missing version?
