Surely a game makes nearly no use of X whatsoever --maybe for a setup dialog?-- and instead uses OpenGL directly. This should mean that porting to OS X would be rather simpler since it support OpenGL too.
I think the person who was saying that it is the x86 asm stuff that needs rewritten on PPC may be correct. I'm sure they still need to make many asm optimizations in games.
It looks like the low-end machines will be getting a VMX (also called AltiVec and Velocity Engine) equipped G3 class chip rather than one of these PPC970 chips. Therefore I'd not bother to wait to buy one of the iMacs, eMacs or iBooks.
It is certainly possible that we will see Mac OS X on x86 at some point in the future. It is another question, however, if Mac OS X x86 will be able to run on any x86 hardware and not just proprietary hardware from Apple.
It is rumored that Apple do currently have Mac OS X running on x86 in the form of project Marklar and that it is kept up-to-date with the PPC version. It is also true that NeXTStep ran on 68K, x86, Sparc and PA-RISC so this shows that the Mac OS X team is likely to capability to easily port this software.
There is currently very little real information on Panther at this point. The only thing we really know for a fact is that it will be called 10.3 (since Jordan Hubbard said so in an interview). Other than this the only information comes from LoopRumors, MacOSRumors (dodgy), Mac Rumors and maybe one or two others. The information from these sites can range from dead on to absolute rubbish.
The new iPods should be available in 10, 15 and 30 gig versions according to ThinkSecret. They also say it should also include a docking station.
For all those people who do not believe the rumor sites ThinkSecret has proven time and time again to be nearly always correct. It is not MacOSRumors.:-)
I think the reason this is not called "broadband" is that British Telecom has got away with pushing terrible services for many years and the telecom regulators are reluctant to let this happen again. Remember that in many areas in the UK broadband is still not available. I'm frustratingly stuck with my 56K modem, where I live, and I see no solution to this problem in the next two years! I live in a large residential area too! My only way of getting a decent speed would be a satellite connection but that is far to expensive.
Since I seem to remember Philips being a supporter of the zeroconf (Rendezvous) standard it would be nice to see this having support for this. Then maybe it could support playlists from the next version of iTunes.
If SVG is used on enough web sites then I think its quite likely that they would do something like this. Unfortunately I don't think that I have ever come across an SVG website. Does IE support this?
What is great about Safari is its integration with things like Rendezvous and the address book and small details like the snap-back button for searching and its clean and simple interface. Its this kind attention to detail that differentiates an Apple product from everyone elses.
My new iBook won't crash ever, it works perfectly with Microsoft Word and my Palm worked first time I plugged it in. Software support for it also seems to be on the increase. Therefore, due to this "great" journalists help, I have come to the conclusion that my iBook has something seriously wrong with it. Oh well, I'm off to call Apple and get them to break everything for me!:-)
I think that the distortion of firing the laser through the atmosphere would disable it from hitting a reasonably small target. Atmospheric distortion is the reason the Hubble space telescope gives so much better pictures than ground based telescopes.
I did not realise that Apple brought this terrible thing to the world!:-) I used to use a good old PowerBook 140 and it had a track ball which was far easier to use than any stupid track pad. Currently I have an iBook 500 and I cannot understand why laptop makers continue to use these silly pads or, even worse, these point things in the middle of the keyboard.
I can't agree here. While its been a few years since I read all the Rama books, I thought the last book was the weakest of them all. I do agree however that the first book was great.
Its interesting to not that Apple got a lot of complaints when they scrapped the floppy from the iMac back in 1998. However, after a couple of months, nobody who actually used the iMac seemed to complain anymore. I think its about time that the rest of the computer industry scrapped this "stoneage" technology.
Many "artists" are sadly now created by the record companies to compete in a high margin market against other such groups. Thats why there is so much of the same sounding rubbish out there nowadays. It would be nice to see some more original music produced.
If your worst enemy accidentally tripped and bonked his head you'd celebrate, too. It doesn't mean that you tripped him. Especially when he's 200,000 feet straight up and you can't reach that high.
Certainly if my worst enemy tripped over I'd have cause to celebrate. However if seven people died, who were helping push the boundaries and better human civilisation, then I would call anyone celebrating their deaths sick in the head.
I am (primarily) a Mac user and I agree that Apple systems are far to expensive. I would like to see a machine that does not include a monitor for less than $800. This would mean that I could upgrade my system far more frequently without wasting money on paying for another display.
Almost everyone recognizes that the brushed metal theme is ugly. So why is apple insisting on it? Annoying their userbase, as usual?
I really like the brushed metal theme. The only problem I can see with it is that it makes app slightly inconsistent between each other. At least you can use this rather than develop your own theme that will create total inconsistency with your app and the rest of the OS.
Oh boy, that's funny. So that's why it has a textured window (that cannot be themed to something less distracting), along with all the rest of the usual Apple eyecandy - but no tabs?
You can easily change the Safari theme from brushed metal Aqua to standard Aqua with a couple of clicks in Interface Builder. You could also use one of the Unsanity haxies.

Look at Mac Rumors for more details.
What are they going to ban next? How about reproduction of song titles. :-)
Apple tried to buy Sun twice sometime in the '80s.
Still I don't think its very likely that owning Sun would interest them.
NeXT shipped their systems with two button mice so Steve Jobs is probably not so much of a one button mouse advocate as you think.

Guns are still leagal in the US and they want to ban model rockets? Surely this has to be one of the most stupid ideas of all time.

Windows 200 is better in that it is more secure than Windows 2000. The only way to "hack" these systems is to use a rifle. :-)

Does this thing support zeroconf?
It would be nice to see one of these new zeroconf enabled TiVo reading its music off one of these.
