There have been so much lies and ridiculous claims about this case. That its hard to judge what you can believe.
It al started with blaming Al Qaida for sending anthrax letters to politicians that where opposed to Bush and his war(!!). And it just went downhill from there.
Studios say that such protections are merited because it now costs about $98 million, on average, to produce and market a film domestically, while 6 of every 10 new films lose money.
Now i dont want to donwnplay the effect that mass reproducing of movies has on the industry. And selling those ripped movies for money should be targeted a lot harder, then the boy next door currently is. But i cant help thinking that for a part they brought this on themselfs aswel. I mean most holywood blockbusters, are dualistic, simple , hero vs badguy movie. Where you can see the clue/ending coming miles away. This is the real reason I dont spend my money on most holywood productions. Last money I spend on movies, whas the Matrix. Saw them in the theatre, and bought the collection box, and not even sure that qaulify's as hollywood.
I thought we already discovered that memory was non local
In a series of landmark experiments in the 1920s, brain scientist Karl Lashley found that no matter what portion of a rat's brain he removed he was unable to eradicate its memory of how to perform complex tasks it had learned prior to surgery. The only problem was that no one was able to come up with a mechanism that might explain this curious "whole in every part" nature of memory storage.
"This is why many critics see is global wealth redistribution scheme rather than a real plan to improve the environment."
He says it like its a bad thing? believe it or not redistribution of wealth is necessary, not only for the envirement.
"DeWeese concludes: "The fact is that one person now stands between the global warming jackals and economic sanity -- George W. Bush."
omg if that is the truth, we are all be doomed.;)
"the IT infrastructure needed to make sure that people get advance warning before the next natural disaster strikes."
At this point i dont think any system wil give an early enough warning. Unless I missed the invention of the time machine. The point is, that we still don't understand much of the ecological processes involved, in this kind of dissaster, too a degree that we can predict it. therefore no warning system, no matter how fast it is, will always be too late. It will save some lifes, but not enough.
And lets face it, we are bringing this on ourselfs, with our over populated, and resource waisting world. earth wil restore the balance, with or without us.
The public wont know or wont care until a massive mistake is uncovered after the person enters office and everyone realizes that theyve been living under the authority of a false representative.
So basicly what youre saying is... Nothing is gonna change after this election.
I'm missing the word "yet". As the recent software patents in Europe painfully demonstrates, the European union is sold to big corporations. Ask Bolkestein , he'll confirm
My mother never beliefd me when I said that playing Quake, took me mind of the illness. When you can play video games, youre healthy enough for school, she always replied. Seems like I was right all along.
I have had sort of a similar experience.
In my dream I was walking thru a big house. Witch in fact was a mixture from houses that I knew in real life. I remember standing in the main hall looking at all the doors and stairs in the hall, wondering witch door I should take. Then I said to myself, "aah what's the difference, I'm dreaming anyway", and I took the first door I saw.
I must agree with you're basic idea, that we are being desensitized to violence. But is it really the video games? I play violent video games since I was 12 (wolfenstein). However I still get sick when I see Russian soldier get his throat cut on a amateur film. So the difference between video game violence and real life violence, is pretty straight forward to me.
But if i must say what really desensitized me to violence, I must say it's the news. I see dead, and dying people on the news everyday, since I have been 10. And I still get sick when I see Russian soldier get his throat cut on a amateur film. So part of my view on violence is probably in my nature/genetics.
Over exposure to violence is real. And i think it must be dealt with. But is blaming it all on video games fair? Or should we look at the bigger picture, and protect our children from fake and real life violence being showed to them every day.
Same Here. Half Life whas the first (and only?) first person shooter that actually was scarry to me. It realy scared the shit out me at some points, even when playing it for the third time.
Where they the first, first person shooter, to actually have a good story line, and scary scenes?

I strongly agree with this.
When,in the late 90's, some wacky research teams, came with numbers that 50% of the population would buy 60% online by the year 2000(dont remember the exact numbers, but you get the picture). My reaction whas: Yeah right , keep dreaming.
I read a lot about, prices that are to high, broken business models. But the article itselfs state's that there might be an exaturation of the download problem. Sales haven't dropped dramaticly, they went down for the first time in a long time. And of course the worldwide economic downfall, hasn't got anything to do with that, right?
Some qoute's from the articel
90% 12-17-year-olds did purchase CDs even though they actively download music from the Internet.
A majority of downloaders have gone on to buy an artist's CD after downloading a track for free from the Internet.
So IMHO the problem isn't that big (yet?). If there is a problem the solution is simple (again IMHO). Work with the internet instead of against it. As Janis Ian says here, giving away free music gave her more cd sells and more sold concert tickets. If you combine this with, lowering prices a bit, a campaign to make people aware of the 'problem', things should work out just fine.
Maybe they can keep a standard collor spectrum for the Mars photo's while they're at it.
"interviews were authenticated by the US CIA" Don't you mean censored?

Sure hope that was ment to be ironic, otherwise I wonder what planet your posting from.

It's not just the USA, europe is one the same road. Western country's are going down the drain together.

I thought there finaly was a new episode. What a disappointment!

Seems like things heading in the right direction in creating a more secure OS, and making it more business oriented.
Lets hope they actually put there money where there mouth is. And not just say this to get some possitive news coverage
And I thought my streetdancing as a 23 y/o man was seen as a weird hobby.

Wanna know ho gets the blame? That same IT staff, that didn't want win2k3 in the first place.
