And while private companies are excused from violating constitutional rights (free speech in this case) if they have "special" status like common carrier (which airlines do have) then perhaps their special status should be yanked...
This only applies more duct tape... obviously, they already have a spreadsheet app doign this.... I think the questioner wants more... like a Student Information System (SIS). A quick google turns up several, first result was opensis.com and they do have a totally free community edition... as well as support/hosting/etc. options.
Yes. And since it has been years since any attempt and Linux use has grown. Perhaps time to try again, or at least take pre-orders with a promise of "if X orders come in, we'll do it for sure".
FWIW - last time they (id) tried, about 11-12 years ago, I bought 3 copies of Q3 for linux - one "l33t tin edition", and 2 "regular" versions (one to use and play, the other for a friend). And, I bought them on pre-order/release day at full retail price.
Shortly after, Loki started selling their stuff, and I bought several (SoF, Mechwarrior, Descent 3d) - wish I had gotten more of 'em.
No discrimination against fields of endeavor, like commercial use.
Now, as others have said, you as a user have a choice of using that proprietary software, or not.
Personally, while the Freedom is good, and the free is great, I use Linux for more practical reasons - it does what I need it to do better than Windows does at a lower cost (in hardware and license fees both)
How about we eliminate non-core classes from degree requirements? Why is that as a comp sci student I have to take any classes in the sociology/humanities area? I can see having electives, but why does X number of elective credits have to come from those departments?
Yup, because the lower on an AR-15 (which is considered the "firearm" by the BATFE) isn't a structural part - it simply keeps all the other parts in appropriate alignment.
And, perfectly legal to make your own firearm, as long as it isn't for commercial purposes (sale), and as long as you follow all NFA rules. You can make a SBR, AOW, etc. as long as you get the proper tax stamp first.... Only thing you can't make is a full auto since the NFA registry for FA/select fire stuff was closed in May 1986. Of course, if you have your FFL and SOT for NFA manufacture, you can still make FA/select fire items *with* the appropriate request for demo unit from a law enforcement agency or military.
I've successfully copied a few keys (different types but common) using a Xerox copy of the key, some tape, cardboard, an exacto knife, and a key copying machine - simply tape xerox of key to cardboard, cut out carefully with exacto knife, run result thru key duplicator..
Actually, with NCLB, bad standardized testing, the "everyone is special and a winner" mentality, and basic grade inflation (which started in the 60s as a way to help more folks avoid the draft) what has happened is the degrees have all bumped down a notch. The BA (and somewhat less the BS) degree has become the new minimum standard, as opposed to an AA or AS. The AA and AS have become the new high school diploma.
So yeah, everyone is getting a BA or BS because well, thats really the minimum college education you can get by with. And once you've doen your 4 years, you may as well delay another year or so and make it a masters....
In the hundreds of thousands of rounds I've fired out of dozens of guns, I've never had to replace a firing pin. Or any other critical-to-functionality part. Sights on occasion, and a few parts here and there for personal preference. But no breakages that have rendered a gun unusable.
Actually, there have been a few... Lubys, the church shooting, the first Virgina college (not Virginia tech w/ Cho).
But to be honest, the 2nd is not primarily about personal protection, but rather about the ability to replace the government - by force if needed.
But when has that happened you ask? On a national level, 1776 of course, and the Civil War (no it wasn't about slavery, it was about states rights). And as recently as 1946
Funny, the Dell I bought December 2011 came with restore disk - and none of that crapware that was installed on the system comes with the restore. And the Dell I got in March 2012 was the same way... but maybe the difference is I'm buying as a "small/home office" as opposed to a "home user" ? I do this anyway for the better warranty and better quality hardware...
2 of your 3 examples were *intentionally* introduced. Add snakeheads and various cichlid species to your list... and the snake issue in the everglades, etc.
More "naturally caused" introductions - like a piece of flotsam/jetsam floating across the ocean - are just that - natural.
MAD only works when all parties involved are relatively sane, and when there is proper security to keep the goodies out of the hands of folks who aren't sane...
IOW, I don't think that MAD is a good deterrent for an extremist religious fundie...
Or Angel (which was improving until BB bought it)

Actually, checking the loki games page (still up after all these years... ) it was HeavyGear - very MW like :)

What kind of budget do you have for this gift?
A Safari subscription could be good... but then, your local library system may already offer access to this (mine does)
Lets not forget that Freedom thing - especially:

And, they are Olympic sports.
But then, the 2nd amendment isn't about Olympic sports or duck hunting....
Umm... the StackOn, etc. aren't safes. They are locking steel boxes, kinda flimsy, no fire rating, not UL listed, etc.
Compare with products from Liberty, Cannon, etc.

Better to just tell said teen that you've left a $100 check somewhere in there and they'll find it when they clean.

Even then, he's gonna starve in the short term.... takes a while to grow. Guess he could make his own bow and go hunting & gathering...
The record keeping at least...
But then, IBM also made M1 Carbines during WW2, which were used to fight the Germans (and Japanese, and later Koreans).
Of course, the M1 Carbines could also be used to solve traffic problems....
If you buy a replacement chip and remove the OEM one, what exactly stops you from selling it?

could probably give them a few ideas regarding moving people around in a congested area.

You've probably never needed a fire extinguisher either... but I bet you got one in your kitchen area or at least some place in your house.
