But some good comes of it... in fact, my Grandma and Uncle had Coke convert a couple hundred hours worth of home video footage from whatever camera Grandma and Grandpa had to VHS for the '84 Olympics... of course, they wanted her personally taken footage of the '32 Olympics opening ceremonies (Grandma was secretary to the GM of the '32 Olympics), but we weren't quite sure which reel they were on. So Coke converted all of it for us. Way cool.
... I just spent $800 on a laptop for the wife (from Dell with XP on it)... had this been out a week earlier, I woulda gone Ubuntu (planning on it anyway...)
Definately not good to apt-get dist-upgrade.... my home machine's IDE drives suddenly got referenced as scsis, all sorts of heck broke loose and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth.
My work machine I followed the process of using the update manager, and all is well.
Go back in time, and get a copy of the LFS howto/book when it was in its infancy - version 1.1 or so ought to do... Very well documented, but you do it and you learn it.
I've got the CD image seeded (just finished downloading a few min ago) on a rented server, and as soon as linode gets its dallas center upgraded I'll have the disk space to do at least one dvd image if not two.
Still sorta sucked that I was downloading the last hundred megs or so at 20k/sec and uploading at 250k/sec...
Well, the trailers for Ice Age 2 that came with it played great, as do ummmm.... "educational" clips I've downloaded off the intarweb thingie... most of those were encoded at 320x240 or similar though...
Except the government mandated that we all get one free report from each agency per year. So.. is freecreditreports.com the website? freecreditreport.com? or would you rather trust your info to freecreditreport.ftc.gov?
If you want to support the sites - how many times did an ad get viewed? - then you can just not display them with your userContent.css file. They still download, etc. but just aren't rendered.
Don't feel bad. I'm miffed that the government uses.com's (and.nets, etc) instead of.gov. I also think they shoulda given a.gov domain for the yearly free credit report stuff. As much as I trust myself, before entering all that juicy info, I actually found links to the.com from the.gov websites, etc. first...
I'm working on doing a live broadcast for a local political thingie that has a lot of folks' panties in a wad...
I'm going to be given basically RCA/component output from the Big TV Stuff.
Went to a Mac using coworker, stole a box off his mac that takes RCA/Component input and outputs it to firewire. Stuck a firewire card in my Ubuntu box, apt-get installed dvgrab and had at it.
One more happy Linode user. I have the smallest plan available, and in the 2 years I've had it they've upped my memory by 50% and given me 25% more disk space.
The V3 cards worked great, as long as you still used X 3.3.x and not the new DRI 4.x stuff.
I got the Linux l33t tin because, well, my wife loves me, and I use Linux. Least I could do was buy all the games I can/could find that were Linux native....
Strange, I've got what I consider a good sense of direction, but when I go somewhere new (say, Minnesota for thanksgiving with the family), I get *very* disoriented as to direction until I see the sun. Once that is done, I got my orientation back. Sucks to go North and have it be very overcast/nasty/grey for a few days non-stop....
I guess this is where I complain about Quake3. I mean, id had the gall to rush it out the door for pre-orders to be delivered by Christmas (not a big dealie to me, but I'm sure to at least a few others), and they sent the darn CD and key in a plain white cardboard CD mailer. The gall! Plain white!
Of course, a few weeks later they realized the erros of their ways and sent me the l33t tin edition of Q3A for Linux....
Yup, and the amendment right after that has a "shall not be infringed" clause, but there are 20,000+ laws in the US infringing on that right....

X Terminals, either diskless or just enough to load X and then everything else comes from one Big Box.
Or something like:
http://www.linuxtoys.org/multiseat/multiseat.html
6 monitors, keyboards, mice, one tower.
But can they beat a station wagon full of backup tapes (or DVDs or whatever) yet?
Or maybe just a "genderbender" socket replacement type thing - put a new socket in your existing mobo socket, put a CPU in the new socket.
Sure do... on the other hand, none of my Debian systems have done that on a dist-upgrade...

Looks like next week will be really good to both of us... assuming ThePlanet can get that cage built and filled :)

I have a 770, and love it. You forgot to mention the mplayer port, ssh server, rdesktop client, etc. in your list :)
rm ~/.mozilla/default/gzypa63s.slt/cookies.txt &&
touch ~/.mozilla/default/gzypa63s.slt/cookies.txt &&
chmod a-w ~/.mozilla/default/gzypa63s.slt/cookies.txt
No more cookies!
Alternatively, between the rm and chmod visit those things you want cookies for, then make your cookies.txt read only.
Or shown up with a white van, a dolly, a clipboard, and a jumpsiut with a nametag on it.
Campus police actually held the doors open and helped the guy load it in the van....
I *love* my Nokia 770... only complaint is that my phone don't do bluetooth...

Think I am in Dallas but I havent' rebooted since late Dec.... looks like I'll do it anyway!
Thanks for the heads up.

The component -> fw box is by Formac http://www.formac.us/p_bin/?cid=solutions_convert
Says its for mac, works fine on my PC running Ubuntu.
