    Pffft, 8 bits x 80 characters x 24 lines = 1.5kB in your terminal of choice connected to your serial port at 1200 baud. or 1.3KB if you don't need lower case and use 7 bits/char.

    yup, there's a few open source databases out there that seem to rebound from power failures very nicely, you can just have them restart in the rc scripts, but I've seen too many mysql backends LOSE DATA. It's very distressing to me to see otherwise very cool projects, like rubyonrails, fall in love with a toy like mysql & build on that crap.

    Also, I'm sure help desk workers may not have the highest level of english speaking skills amoung all Indians. As far as the global languages to learn, there's but 350 million native english speakers in the world. 260 million of those live in a country that is farming out more and more IT work to India anyways. The worlds most common native spoken lanauges: mandarin chinese, spanish, and hindi. That's over one and a half billion people. So I don't think india needs to invest any additional effort in learning english.

    hah, no, those WW II devices were quite complicated and did have precision detonators, initiators, precision machined components, etc. there's some old interesting books on the construction of them that you can find in university libraries. Even in this day & age, it would take the resources of a government to duplicate the effort. Just getting enough u235 in one place only gets you alot of contamination, heat, radiation, etc.

    since the onset of another ice age is already overdue, which is more desirable, global warming or another ice age? In either case, it seems to me that the problem of man influencing climate is self-correcting. i.e. fall of civilization == return to natural climate cycles.

    yes, I've read the site. Some serious scientists, and even some serious historians, have other points of view on the subject. The world's climate has been much hotter, and much colder, than it is now, and that is fact.

    At least one case? hahaha, ALL flu comes from overseas chickens which has jumped to humans who spread it to other humans, EVERY YEAR. And tens of thousands die from this, EVERY YEAR. *yawn*
