True, however do you not believe that humans everywhere should have certain fundamental rights? Such as the freedom of speech, the freedom to assemble peacefully, or the freedom to elect their own leaders? I think they should.

Agreed, seeing every city in the world with the same ideals that we honour in democratic nations would be nice. But we should also understand that Any change should come from within the country - not forced upon externally.
I would be the happiest to see American Culture as a whole being adopted throughout the world through its inherent power and influence (which is happening to a lots of places in the world btw) - not because of its military muscle.

yeah right, talk to people who havnt been there.
i lived there all through my childhood (8 years) and no i am neither a muslim nor is middle east my native. i have seen no such kiosk, ever in any mall.

Talk of a lack of freedom to speak, to assemble together peacefully , to practice ones own religion and Burkhas (Veils) for women -I would agree. Then again thats their culture, that is the way they have evolved. One cannot judge a culture qualitatively or through comparisons. More often than not , cultures are there in the first place because they serve the needs of the society in that area - the needs differ from place to place.

i fail to understand why everyone who supports microsoft on this issue takes on the "oh, maybe they want to send security patch information" stance. That would not be an advertisement in the first place. That would be technical information sent upon request. I also fail to see why microsoft would require sweeping rights to do this. If someone doesnt feel like reading emails about their patches, it shouldnt be shoved down his/her throat in their inbox. Not everyone works in the IT field and would be interested in these fixes.

Apart from that argument, i think they seek this freedom to continue spamming their own HOTMAIL.
Thats the reason they have "doing business with clause". Currently, they send in regular information that they see fit (full of promotional offers) to all hotmail users and there is NO WAY of unsubscribing from that.

So even if we enforced our own anti-piracy laws "China style", it wouldn't work?!

The problem is "China Style" anti piracy laws means no law or no enforcement of the law.

I am sure that the problem in China is very similar to the one we have in north america. The CDs are just too expensive and not worth it except for a few songs. Going over the situation described in the article, why should the CDs sold by recording association of China (or whatever it is called) be any more expensive than the pirated ones ? They are doing the exact same thing as those pirates - copying and boxing CDs. For quality sake, i am sure that the chinese people would be ready to buy genuine CDs even if they costed slightly more than pirated ones.

Its about time music industry everywhere started competing with piracy. For north america, that translates into high quality CDs/mp3s coming boxed to my home with songs i am able to pick - costing about a dollar a song. People are lazy, they would definitely go for it instead of going through the trouble of burning songs themselves.

    a) Webpage from well known websites (CNN.com,bbc.com) or
    b) Webpages that are talked about under a specific context in a number of smaller websites maintained by individuals ?

I think b) is a far better criterion for a webpage to feature at the top of the weblist and i am sure Google has realized this too - and thus the buy out ! The purchase may also help them weedout miscreants who might try to use the google bomb technique to get their links displayed on the top.

A proper negative feedback would be the one that describes in entirety as to what exactly transpired in the transaction and what left you disappointed. Also, ebay is stupid by restricting the number of characters in a feedback to 2 lines. I think it promotes short brief messages with no content at all like the one described in the story.
