I was disheartened when they dropped the slogan, "Products of your imagination". I pretty sure that the new slogan is, "Products that fill our bank account".:(
I work in the IT field (I'm a consultant), and I've yet to see the over, rampant, hostility that you claim exists. More likely, it's the usual inter-office politics that exists in pretty much every office job. But instead of chalking it up the standard office culture, why not cry "sexism"?
Sexism does exist in, and out of, the work environment. But to say that it's the major reason that women aren't in the IT field is absurd. Even more absurd is claiming that the hostility that women feel in the IT field is sexist-driven.
So, the differences between men and woman are only in their physical abilities?
And the reason that women don't want to work the mines, is because of the lifting requirement? And not because the work is grueling, dirty, and hard on the body?
If the lifting requirement is all that is holding them back, why not simply lower it? In much the same way that the physical requirements for women were lowered for women firefighters. I'm sure they'd just flock to it.
A little off topic, but you'd think that, since the politically correct group sees no difference between men and women, that they'd be a little less negative about gays.
Well, I've also noticed that there isn't a good representation of women in garbage collection force either. Oh no, they're also under-represented in the mines!
Won't somebody think of the childr...err...women!
Maybe, just maybe, the different genders gravitate to the fields that they like. Or, gasp, are suited for.
That's not to say that women aren't suited for the IT field. Men and women are different, even if the politically correct people don't want you to believe it. So it makes sense that they just might be predisposed to liking different things...including professions.
But forget that, let's just force the different genders into the professions that politically correct-driven math says that they should be, and not what they want to be in.
I suppose that, when you open a terminal session, every Linux distro is for "power users", but what makes Ubuntu really shine, is that you don't have to be a power user.
I also like Ubuntu because much of the maintenance can be done through the GUI.
The real question is: how much of the maintenance can be done remotely? Being a Linux distro, I have to imagine that most, if not all, of it can.
In high school, I spend one period per for a semester tuturing autistic students. Most of them feel into one of two categories. They were almost either almost "normal" or barely functioning. it took a careful, thoughtful, hand to teach them. I can't see how a robot (with today's technology) can possibly do even come close to that.
I guess you could get a person to monitor the robotic tutoring, but you'd end up with a human watching a robot teach a human. Which would be a waste.
I don't care if the child is autistic or not, I'm not pleased with the thought of robots teaching children. Not only are you robbing them of learning social mores, but you're also telling them that they aren't important enough to be taught be a human. Just one more mechanical babysitter (along with computers and television) in their lives.
I love how morons like you can't interpret numbers.
Perhaps the reason that the percentage (*hint*, *hint*) is so low compared to other countries is that, in a monetary sense, we have a lot more going on than most of the other countries listed. Go look up the absolute money taken in plus the import/export of each country.
After you do the math, you'll learn that you were talking out of your ass.
Every time a Linux-related company signs a deal with Microsoft, it guarantees that I'll never use, or, as a consultant, ever even recommend their products.
Of course there's a double standard regarding a male or female. The irony is that it's that way because it's a male dominated society. It'll probably change over the years. Just look at how domestic fights are handled now. Back in the day, the man always the one arrested. Now it's almost as likely that the women will be arrested (or both).
Social change is often a slow process.
Oh, and it's not the Four Horseman, it's Nazis riding dinosaurs.
Whenever I hear about this stuff, or when some hot female teacher has sex with a student, I know that as an adult, and a parent, I'm supposed to be upset and outraged, but...
If it was me, and some hot female teacher wanted to do some extracurricular activities at her house or some hot chick from my class wanted to take me on a magic carpet ride...I don't think I'd be that upset.
I reserve the word 'hate' for truly worthy people. I don't hate the people that cut me off, I don't hate the people who get my order wrong, and I don't even hate the people that give me the run-around.
But I really do hate these people, and the people like them, that try to hold society back.
Have I told you lately how much I love you?

The mods that wanted to mod down my original post couldn't do it, so they came after my other posts to get at my karma.
What a bunch of losers.

I'd like to say something eloquent, insightful, and thought provoking...but, in regards to this, I'm just going to go with "Fuck no!"

Dude, you know that Bambi is a guy, right? ;)
Hey, I said sorry about poking you in the eye! What more do you want?!

That's even worse than having a eunuch teach me about sex.

Isn't it usually, "Judge blows RIAA"?
Never, but my clients express an interest in all sorts of technology. Now I can say that the answer to your questions will always remain "never."

"Deep hole", "mons", "ejecta"? I'm all hot and bothered now...

Where's +6 Funny when you need it?!
Just image if they took the road less traveled and based in on Red Vs. Blue. :)
What does a music website have to do with porn?
The way it's been shitting all over itself, you'd think it would be older...
