What about a damnation for ATI? After all they were 'rumoured' to have been behind the alpha leak (AFAIK)....
Mind, given the HL2 situation with nVidia card performance, both id and Valve have pretty much setup camp in opposing companies as well as well as on the field of major releases.
Chris Vrenna is doing the sound, which is fine by me. He did the soundtrack for American McGee's Alice, plus he used to be in NIN... mind I've just ordered 2am Wakeup Call, just waiting on the international shipping!!:-)
The reason he is at Apple is that he was brought in because of his work on the BeOS FS, so a lot of the ideas and inner workings (AFAIK) are being put into OSX.
I would hunt some links out but I can't be arsed, but El Reg did a very good interview with Dominic a couple of years ago that was quite a good read.
Also, try running the program 'sysedit.exe' and it'll popup with the older style text config files (config.sys, autoexec.bat, win.ini & system.ini)... look in these for any suspicious proggies. I've seen some viruses/spyware add themselves into here so they can respread if you've just taken them out of the registry/startup folder.
I remember when starting Uni in Autumn 1997, Java became the mandatory module instead of C++... so much so that we were really the guinea pigs because the lecturers hadn't taught it before.
Most of us were wanting C++ modules to be bought back as an option, but were denied... and when I did get involved with C++ I found it made it harder learning the memory management issues (i.e. pointers) going from Java to C++.
Mind, Java has certainly progressed from being regarded as a 'university fad' programming language (AFAIK), but one or two years after we started, I think the uni reintroducted the C++ modules.
I got one of those Zippy illuminated keyboards while in the States. It is a laptop sized config rather than a full keyboard, but with the lack of space on my desk it is great.
The only minor gripe I have about the keyboard is the level of illumination, or lack of it... while it looks great in the dark, in a lit room it is a duller washed out illumination (compared to other LED lights on my system). I wonder how it would compare with the light levels coming from an EluminX or others, I don't know how they compare.
Mind my brother ended up getting one for his DJ rig, and he is very pleased with it, especially due to the lack of light in the DJ booth at work, he doesn't have to rely on the USB light/torch as much.
Just my 0.02 GBP (since it is a US keyboard and I'm living in the UK, so no British Pound symbol!)
Yea, but don't forget the industry pumps out plenty of crap as well... you might end up with Leisure Suit Larry Xtreme Edition (*shudder*).
I must admit that I've got the Zork games archived on a CD somewhere (classic series if I do say so myself), I never did finish Zork 2 & 3 and that was 10 years ago!! That would be a trip down memory lane.
Your comment made me get worried, in another way... one word:

Give advertisers a chance to get their foot in the door, then this would be it... I mean talk about something you can't exactly ignore. Might just be me getting a little paranoid, but you never know.
Mind, I just thought of the scene where Homer Simpson when he is driving down the road and does an emergency stop to look at every roadside banner advert... it would be even more freaky with this tech!
turn activated the Igf2 which allowed this process to occur.
Even though the uppercase "I" made me think of an "l", but why did that make me think "Lesbian Girl Friends 2"??? I must have been watching too much of The L Word recently!
And don't forget, British Telecom apparently 'invented' hyperlinking way before Sir Tim did... mind BT is a [sarcasm]much loved[/sarcasm] company here in blighty.
I'm in the process of filing an official complaint for them fecking up my broadband connection for three weeks (even though their "complaints" department might actually be a bin), since they're obviously such "innovators" of technology it takes another company to be able to provide my broadband services... anyway, rant over & just my 0.02
You just made me think of that scene from Absolutely Fabulous... when it's Edinas 40th birthday and she blows out the lit candles with a fire extinguisher (and the cake goes with it too).
On a seperate note, I loved question in the article asking Linus if he wanted a free subscription to Linux Journal... oh the irony!
So on one hand the leaked memo was just 'misunderstood' or a piece of creative spin, yet on the other hand the same could be applied to the CA Linux 'licenses'....
Hmmm, this is just more proof that these guys really do have their heads jammed up their own asses.
After just reading this thread and Groklaw afterwards... I think that SCO should give/. more credit, especially after the "the ranting and dribble that takes place on Slashdot" comment...
Now then Ye Prophets of SlashDot, what more predictions can we get from our 'crystal balls' (LCD screens will do) today:)
I think it is if you have anything capable of recieving any active TV signals, and only if the device actually works... and if you don't have a license they have to prove the something was receiving TV signals (i.e. with their tracker van).
If you live in a flat with other tenants, and you have independant contracts with the landlord, then you have to have a TV license if you wanna watch TV irrelevant of the other tenants. If all the tenants are on a sharing contract, then only on TV license is needed for the whole building (or area covering shared accomodation).
I for one have first hand experience with the TV licensing people. On my uni industrial placement (internship), I lived in a flat on an individual contract. I didn't have a TV nor did I want one (boy did that free up my time for doing other things I tell you!), but I got a threatening letter from TV licensing nearly every 2 months... they threatened me by saying that you don't have a license, they'll get a warrant to check on me... blah blah. I was just waiting for the time they actually followed through with one of those threats just to be able to explore the option of being able to sue them... I know that they can trace a signal to individual rooms, and I was happy in the knowledge that I did not have anything capable of recieving TV signals (my PC video card wasn't VIVO either).
Although I'm not sure on the precise details, but I think the TV license is illegal under European law... but with the UK being half in and half out of the EU depending on whether it suits the government at the time, not much can be done about it. The BBC's charter is up for renewal in 2006, and they've been hit hard by the Hutton report (those who say that will have no bearing on the charter renewal, yeah right!). Plus the license fee continually goes up in frickin price.
Just my 0.02, not going to the licensing gestapo though;-)
Funny yes, but seriously though... doesn't AMD have a cross licensing agreement with Intel, originally favouring AMD being able to use any x86 family instructions that Intel develop? (AFAIK from the original court case allowing AMD access).
Now the shoe is on the other foot since x86-64 (AMD) is becoming more established and Itanic was a complete break from existing x86 architecture, Intel didn't exactly have to ask AMD for a license.
In the seminars I can imagine how Cisco would explain they're love of being shafted, hence all the backdoor access (pun intended!)...
...Microsoft will just blab about how they CAN be trusted, and show everyone pretty pictures and a Matrix spoof to distract everyone...
..while Valve gets the dates for the seminar mixed up and turn up 6 months later.

Wing Commander.
Although I can say I've had the pleasure of not watching it.

Or instead of sharp, use the hash orientation and you could have D-bong... mind you'd have to be on drugs to be able to use it though ;-)

Yes! We're all different!"
I'm not different!
:)
...and if they don't deliver within a certain time, then hopefully you'll get it for free! :)
Sewage power!
...Crikey, going OT a bit but I immediately though of the Spice Girls!
Well, if you mix their Girl Power slogan and the fact that they were shit, then voila... "Sewage Power".
:)

The car should be programmed to discover any problems under the bonnet, then send a message to the garage to let them know.
The mechanics would then contact the women directly to invite them over.
Is it me, or do I have a dirty mind this afternoon? ;)

Ummmm, Hoover VAcuum Cleaner! Yes, that's it! Not that I'm advertising them or anything (although I use Dyson myself).
;-)
I'd be worried if someone made a Dawsons Creek Trapper Keeper mod :-)
Here's a link for you non South Park people.

Imagine that, Spikes own show on SpikeTV, maybe Spike Lee would have a heart attack if that happened?
