  2. Re:Backwards compatibility is hard on 360's Backwards Compatibility Weak? · · Score: 1

Although I'm a Nintendo fan, I have to point out that as far as the Revolution's backward compatibility with retro Nintendo consoles, it's not like you're going to be able to just take a NES cart and plug it into the Revolution, so it's not truly backwards compatible either. And you may have to re-buy those old games off a Nintendo website (I doubt it's going to just work with standard ROMs and they're going to give them away for free).

Also, Microsoft never actually said you'd have to re-buy the games. That was just something the article suggested might happen. I tend to think that a more likely scenario would be that you send in your original version and get a free copy of the recompiled game, or a disk that contains both versions.

Most of the games seem to just be a typical FPS with a bible or christian related scenario tagged on. Smart way to generate extra sales for a mediocre FPS! Check out the Scenario for "Ominous Horizons": 'Mainz Germany, 1455. Johannes Gutenberg, creator of the printing press, completed his great masterpiece; a printed Bible. Thus, a new era in human development would ensue where scribes were no longer needed to painstakingly hand copy manuscripts. Gutenberg could now create thousands of copies of the Bible to be distributed throughout the world, making the Word of God easily available to any who sought it. With his press destroyed, and the Bible stolen, a Paladin is called upon to once again free the world of evil and return the Bible to Gutenberg. You are that Paladin in Ominous Horizons: A Paladin's Calling.'

I'm interested in a way to broadcast radio on the net without the bandwidth problems that you encounter when you get more than a few listeners. Is there a P2P streaming radio program where peers echo the radio to other peers?

Are there more women in gaming now than then, or a higher percentage? There's a much lower percentage based on people I know. But of course that's not a very scientific survey. ;o) -paul

  13. 3D Gaming? on Girls Got Game · · Score: 2, Interesting

This is just personal experience, but I remember many girls into video games when I was a kid and games were 2D. The first home system I ever played was an Atari 2600, and it belonged to a girl.

I think that the move to 3D gaming may be partly responsible for fewer girls playing games. In studies I've read about the differences between women and men, generally they all say that we're about the same EXCEPT that men are better at 3D thinking. From thisarticle that I quickly Googled, "...Men perform better on some cognitive tests, like visualizing 3D objects. Women tend to have greater verbal abilities..."

I'm no expert, but if this is correct and applicable, women are on average at a disadvantage with modern 3D games.

What you said. It's not mine if it's DRM'd. I tried it once with audible.com (I didn't realize they used DRM). It was a pain in the ass to remove the DRM so I could use it on my portable mp3 and the audio quality sucked. It was easier to just rip the free realplayer streams of the show I wanted, and the audio quality was better. I got a refund and donated the money I would have spent at audible directly to the NPR show. (using Total Recorder to rip the Realplayer streams BTW) Never again.

Personally, I'd love to have one with old skool controls and readouts. Neon bulbs for power/HD and maybe some VU meters. Probably been done by some case modder, but where can you buy one?
