Anyone care to recommend a $100 non-AGP graphics card? I'm looking to upgrade from integrated graphics on a new system, and don't have the coin for a high-end choice. I'm not expecting to get 7800-level performance; just wondering what might offer good bang for the buck.
Actually, before the discount cards there were "coupons." The cards are far better because of the general lack of quantity restrictions on purchases. In addition, some stores will issue cards without requiring personal information.
In addition, "Do Not Forsake Me Oh My Darling" involves actual mind transference, and provides perhaps the most compelling clues as to why Carl did resign.
...As well as the only reference to his real name throughout the series, provided by his fiancee. Leaving The Prisoner off of this type of list makes an utter joke of the exercise.
Seems like the business plan for EA and the NFL are to assume that customers will take what they can get with updated rosters and incremental changes in gameplay. The real effect on sales may not be evident until next year, when players burned by this year's release look at other options.
This could even open things up for competition from another company that may not have NFL players, but better graphics and gameplay.
True story: Went to the local Mal-Wart (Milpitas, CA) on Thursday. An aisle display had several hundred $1 DVDs in cardboard sleeves marked "Family DVDs." Prominently featured was Romero's Night Of The Living Dead.
Seems like family standards are, um, 'evolving' at the Wart.
Other than/// Easy Pieces, was there any software done for it? I had bought one in early '83 on the recommendation of my sister (worked for Apple) and was unpleasantly surprised that there was basically nothing out there, unless you ran in ][ emulation.
If you are wondering whether employees or employers are the bigger beneficiaries from the changes, try to identify a business or trade group that opposes the changes.
Lucas did benefit from at least one significant piece of unpaid advertising: It was featured in a Time magazine cover story as "The Year's Best Movie." Time was much more influential in that era, and this was a key factor is promoting awareness. Word-of-mouth took over from there.
One key point left out of the blog regarding WP's success: WP offered unlimited, toll-free technical support at the outset. It was very comforting to know that you could call someone who actually understood the program to answer a question. WP built up a lot of goodwill on that basis.
The end of the article notes "The contract to provide software, hardware and computer services to DND was originally awarded to Compaq Canada in 1991. It was transferred to HP after its acquisition of Compaq."
"Independent analysis??" If you are referring to the much-publicized Arthur Levitt analysis, according to Business Week the NHL owners paid $250k for the "analysis."
If M$ pays Beryl McSlide $250k for an analysis that asserts that Windows is more secure than Linux, would you believe that it was independent?
Check out Gary Thorne's recent "elephant" column for more info on this situation.
The two best things about the article: First, it immediately points out that shortly after Darl came on board, his primary focus was to start up the litigation machine. Second, it spends a good chuck of time making a persuasive case for the M$-SCO connection. Very good article in a well-respected forum for those who have not paid close attention to this fiasco.
I'd like to see the response if The Tick (cartoon, not Warburton & co.) was ever released on DVD. I know, everyone has moved on to other projects, but when *is* this going to become available?
Yeah, I know I can download it, but a hi-res version would certainly sell.
One suggestion: Instead of referring to "SCO" in/. stories and postings, refer instead to "SCO/Microsoft." This will help reinforce the fact that SCO is no more than a marionette, with Billy's bunch pulling the strings.

Actually, I think you need a shrubbery. I understand that Roger has some experience in that area.....
I was born and raised in Springfield, Mass. I moved away many years ago, but visited the region several months back.
It pains me to admit it, but the city has degenerated into the civic equivalent of a Superfund site. No one in their right mind would choose to set up shop there.
The key is to make sure that the terms of the settlement specify that it actually does come to a close.
About three years ago, I was checking the bills for an elderly friend of mine while he was out of town. I came across one of these bills -- it was not at all clear what it was for. At first and second glance, it looked like it might be a standard phone bill. He was fooled for 17 years....
Hopefully, the lawyers will insure that a mailing is done to all victims to insure that people have to opt-in to continue making these payments, and that they clearly understand that they can purchase the units at nominal cost.
Just a reminder...
Either PCI or PCI-E is ok.

You want both? See (or read) "Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room"
Rowan Atkinson. Great in the non-canon Red Nose parody, and needs the work.

You'll have to work overtime to find one.
(with thanks to Bill Gaines, Bill Elder, and Harvey Kurtzman)

To locals: Sorry to pile on, but...
