Schools lack money because of politics, not because they don't scrounge thrift stores, ebay and dumpsters for their classroom resources (in fact I bet many of them do).
The bright spot is that once we hit all the technological walls there are, we'll be forced as a species to either mature emotionally and spiritually, or snuff ourselves out trying. But hey, at least until then we've got Gameboy Advance SP and The Osbournes.
Sadly, it's still a prototype. I don't think it's fair to make the comparison, given that there are still no production samples of the car and it hasn't been safety certified (guaranteed to add significant weight, if it can even pass).
With Ogg Vorbis support, they seem to be saying they recognize and want "geeks" to be part of their core audience. If that's really the case, why the mess of a web site? Seems like the product developers need to take the webheads in hand and educate them.
It makes me wonder if we are on the verge of creating a trans-human intelligence capable of consciousness.
Already done. It eats to obesity despite lack of hunger, is bored with any but the most frenetic and mindless of entertainments, and actively squashes any outside attempt to induce actual thought.
As plots go, "find out who killed me" had just as interesting a twist in "Who Shot Roger Rabbit." No, not the movie, the book, wherein Roger's "tween" has to find out who shot and killed him.
Where was the EFF before this guy settled? Remember, he didn't lose his money, or have it taken from him, he agreed to give it up to stay out of court. Where were the deep pockets of the EFF when this guy was casting about for help?
Or did he really feel guilty enough to just want to make it go away?

Then stop asking what "people like" and go to a library or bookstore to find out for yourself. Letting the lowest common denominator determine your reading habits doesn't seem the way to go about it, IMHO.
The computer gaming industry is just the tip of the iceberg, and they didn't start it. Buggy software releases and "pay for beta" software started as far back as Windows 95 (I can't think of any prior examples, but surely they're out there), and Microsoft is one of the most prominent offenders. MS also was one of the pioneers of "documentation sold seperately." It's merely unfortunate that other segments of the industry (and even other industries altogether) are following suit.

When a new technology is discussed as: "we could do thus-and-such cool useless thing with it," what's really happening is that people are trying to invent a use for the invention. This is also known as "marketing."
So, according to this (new) article, ISS is wide open to the further embarrassment of having suit brought against them for having their website defaced.
What a great idea! I say we apply this logic on a scale where it will really do some good!

Sue the maintainers of BUGTRAQ and similar resources for breaking the security-by-obscurity that was working so well for so long for all of us.

Good thing they've still not caught on to what happened at Black Mesa. Our secret is still safe.
