To most people if they get no gui, the OS *does not work* (for them). I can't say how many times I have had to hold back recommending Linux to a non-technical person because of a lack of an automatic safe x setting. Although *I* can fix any x-org issues manually, I won't always be there for other people to fix their issues.
Heck as we speak I'm running x without beryl, why? Because someone decided to add without warning compiz-fusion in the repositories (and beryl got dropped), meaning one of my beryl packages got replaced and thus my gui wouldn't come up until I manually deleted beryl from the startup. I checked for days for a tutorial for getting compiz-fusion working (for Mandriva) but came up empty. Then there's the numerous times I've lost my gui because of a kernel upgrade (dkms didn't automatically recompile the graphics driver), again this type of issue would be a showstopper for many people.
If we want more drivers for Linux, then we need more features like this that'll make it more accessible to the masses, period. Kudos to the Bullet-Proof X folks, this is a huge step in the right direction.
The last few pc's I've looked at didn't come with recovery CDs. Instead you are given instructions (somewhere in the packaging) which tells you how to burn your own recovery CDs (which pull the data from the recovery partition and I do believe the CD's are tied to your hardware specifically). Now if you your hard drive goes south before you get a chance to make those disks....
Oh and some will only let you make 1 set of recovery disks (which is ok since CD-R's last forever)/sarcasm
"He then demanded that one of Piros' fingers be cut off for every hour his demands were not met, and another employee got a butcher knife on his orders"
Anybody wanna take bets on who was the first person fired after this incident?
I think what he's talking about is a simple delay. I have not seen the Vista audio configuration menu, BUT, many receivers (some as old as 8 years old) have a feature where you input the distance each speaker is from the listener, then based on this it will induce a delay on the closest speakers, the Idea being that the sounds reach the listener at the intended times.
One particular receiver, the Onkyo 929 (or 939 dont' remember the exact number) came with a microphone which you set in the primary listening position. Once you setup the mic you pushed a button on the receiver and it would calibrate the system (volume of each speaker, and I do believe delay).
This is the reason why old THX setup instructions would have you setup the center channel first, measure the distance between it and the listener and *then* setup the left and right speakers at the same distance but a different angle of course. Thus having the result that the Left and Right speakers would be sitting a foot or two forward relative to the center speaker.
Of course many wives didn't like the speakers sitting far in front of the entertainment center and as such this alternate method with the delay induced electronically was developed.
As a long time contact lens wearer I can suggest you try Cooper or CIBA lenses (Assuming you wear toric lenses). Those seemed to work quite well. Although I never tried Acuvue, their lenses couldn't go up to the prescription I needed.
I did have Lasik done recently and I'm very happy I did. I see better than I did w/ contacts. Sucks they can't accommodate you *yet*.
have any of the articles mentioned how well the tissues, organs, and fluids are preserved? More importantly, what does mammoth taste like? Could this be the new secret ingredient in Iron Chef?
why the hell does a web application break with an Operating System update? "You are about to upload homework 6 due in 8 seconds through blackboard. Cancel or Allow?"
That said, how much does blackboard/WebCT set back universities?
Fifth coming down the line:

And for those that can't wait there's always the Divx HD players.
Heh, none. It was just meant as a humorous nonsensical statement. Serious research and all...

Thank you. This needed to be said.

Sweet, I now get the public plaza channel and the auto shop channel!
A remnant in that collaboration and be seen the form of the acronym for the digital hookups on CD-Roms - SPDIF (Sony Philips Digital Interface).
And if you do a search on MSN for "How to migrate from windows to Linux" the first site it returns is their "Get the Facts" webpage.

.. I have a source for truly original program variable names!
Correct, the lb is a unit of weight or force (like the metric unit Newtons). The slug is the English unit of mass.

And only one pedal. Press once quickly for gas, press and hold it stop.
Ok, that aside, wonder if there's the possibility of an external battery add-on for these things? (kinda like a battery extender).
They never said how many people guessed 'zero'. Granted if they were right they still wouldn't have won...
Hmm... could I say send via fax the wikipedia? No need to waste paper. Make it educational!
I want to add that the nVidia 6100 boards integrated video runs Beryl (and World of Warcraft) quite well. So integrated is not necessarily bad.
