Merging with Quebec.... not such a good idea.
I am from BC - being in the same country as
Quebec is like being married to a beautiful
woman that nags you half to death, constantly
threatens to leave you and never does, and
spends all of your money on clothes.
I also have a 10 foot CRT projection system, and I
am fine with DVD through a line quadrupler.
It is actually better if they wait - if
we get a HDTV DVD format too soon, then the
hurdle will not be worth making to 1080p 60fps.
Once you get to HDTV DVD, I doubt that there
will be another upgrade. If there is consumer
acceptance of 1080i then the 1080p/60 may never
happen.
The ipod sounds ok when you use the
earpods, but once you hook it up to
a good stereo, it kind of blows, even
with the uncompressed audio format.
I think that apple put a lousy D/A
converter in the iPod, and compensated
with changes in the earpods to make it
sound good.
You are much better off taking the digital
output of a G5 mac, running it to an external
D/A converter, and then to a tube based
stereo. The toslink output will need to be
converted to AES/EBU or something if you
want a digital run over 1 meter.
Yes you can have it all, because Cisco has
an 80% margin or something. You can under
charge them by a whole lot and still make money.
You could spend twice as much per customer
to get them more of what they want, charge
half what Cisco does, and still make money.
BTW - NASA sucks. They spend way too much money
to accomplish way too little, so not a good
example there.
Yes it will - I play DVDs on component out
all the time with my PS-2.
For some reason, the geometry is different,
though, when you play games or dvds. I
have the PS2 driving a line quadrupler and
CRT projector - DVDs fill up the whole 120"
screen, but games are about 12" smaller and
shifted a little to one side.
The hard part would not be getting the
pump to vary the speed, but the control
hardware to set the speed.
How would the pump be able to figure out
that you need more oxygen in your muscles?

I think that you need to take another
look at the balance sheet - you didn't
notice that they paid off $400 million
in debt, so (cash - debt) went up.
$30 billion will buy back 1 billion shares -
which is how many shares Bill Gates has.
I wonder if Bill will take advantage of the
stock buyback in order to sell his whole
stake in the company?
No - I disagree. Anyone who bothers to listen to the difference can tell. Most of slashdot is populated with peope who make up their mind from the theory instead of the experience (in this and all things 8-). Sit your average person down, and they will hear the difference, particularly if female (women have better hearing, on average).
In my system, the difference between tube and solid state, and between CD and Vinyl is completely clear and audible to everyone who has listened.
If I had no experience listening, I would also be saying that transistors are better.
That is why you need a libertarian congress and
house, not just a president.
George Bush is no libertarian - he is financially
irresponsible and erodes civil liberties with
abandon. I will continue to vote libertarian,
hopefully we will start getting enough of the
vote to make the other parties co-opt some of
our platform.
"Joining the big player's game" is just another
way of saying "Sell your soul to the devil".
The republicans are not financially or socially
responsible, and their views are so far from
the Libertarian platform that the Democrats
would be much better.
On social issues, the Libertarian party is the
most "left leaning" of all the parties - for example:
it is the only party to endorse gay marriage,
unlimited imegration, legalized drugs, closure
of all foreign military bases, withdrawel from
the UN and NATO, and no death penalty.
On fiscal issues, the libertarians are the most
right wing (no taxes, shut down 90% of the
governmant, pay off national debt, get rid
of all social welfare programs, etc).
Bush is the Libertarian antichrist. Everything
we want, he does the oposite.
Can you be a little more useful in your
references please? There is no way that
we are going to be able to do a google
search on "The Lottery" and figure out
what the heck you are talking about.
Also, I find your "chinese guy" reference
a little offensive. Not only that, but
in my experience the people (chinese or
not) who work 80 hours per week all the time
are not particularly more productive than
the 40-50 hour people - and they don't get
higher salaries as far as I can see.
I think that we have an unusual spread of
salaries now, because anyone who made it
through the massive layoffs still has the
"boom time/stop the hiring raids from
competitors" salary, which is 2x the salary
of everybody else. At least it is like
that in telecom.
From the earlier organic screen story, you will
be able to paper an entire wall or ceiling with
flexible display wallpaper. I think that 450"
will be a stretch, but I bet most people will
be able to fit a 150" screen on one wall or
another.
I have a CRT projector, and a 120" screen -
I can tell you that the 1080i HDTV signal
coming out of my DirectTv receiver is far
from photorealistic. I don't think we need
UHDTV yet, but I would be pretty happy if we
got HDTV+ with 2000x3200 pixels at 60Hz
progressive.
I think that the general world hatred of
American ties into this - a big chunck of the
western European population wants to blame
us for whatever they can. In circles of
rational discussion, the causes (but not
the existence) of global warming are open
to debate.
I grew up in western Canada, and so I hate
the French Canadians. Any time somebody says
something bad about Quebec, I pretty much take
it at face value, and add it to my list of
grievences without any rational crosscheck, it
is quite a struggle for me to notice my bias
and account for it. It is the same with
Europeans view of Americans.
It looks like there is no longer a population
control problem.
I googled HIV and population, and the estimates
I found show that HIV will trim
2 billion people off the current estimates.
So the world population will peak at 7 billion
in 2050, and then start going down.
Really big honkin' rocks hit the earth every
X million years, so it seems like they
would hit the moon every (X*6) million years or
so - why is the moon still there?
I would like to see standard (bluetooth?)
interfaces to the stereo and telephone keypad/
handsfree/antenna in every car.
So, for example, in 2007 - I have a brand new
iPod phone. I get into any car, and I can
controll the iPod via the stereo controlls, and
it plays through the car stereo. The phone
hooks up to the cars antenna and keypad - if
I receive a call it routes through the handsfree,
and I can make calls via the keypad.
I know that some of this is already available,
but it is not standard or widely used.
The difference between the turbo and normally
asperated car is a turbocharger, intercooler,
and probably stronger cylender walls.
You don't need computer access to see the
difference, just a pair of eyes and/or ears.
Get used to it. Most of your taxes after
college will be wasted, and the rest will
go to programs that you don't use.
$50/year or whatever is nothing, prepare
yourself for the great screwing.
Pepsi spends 33 cents per bottle (99 cents
per tune, 100 million bottles out of 300 million
contain iTunes codes).
Do they even make 33 cents profit on a bottle
of cola? I doubt it...
