The picture gets more interesting when you consider notebooks though :) I was recently in the market for a 12" notebook, and ended up getting an iBook. On price (cheap), performance (midrange), and battery life (long) there was no contest. For 14" notebooks PCs were much more competitive, but for good battery life you need a Pentium-M and that made it expensive. And if you want decent wireless under Linux, it is going to cost you more on average.

About 10-15%, the majority from the Old Testament, but some from the New. I admit that's not very much, but I make a point of understanding what I read, and I think I'm generally familar with the most of the rest. Having reread my post, I don't want people to take my criticisms too harshly. Different people can draw very different lessons from the Bible, you should always read things for yourself. However, I found that God in the Old Testament was not very good at all, and Satan was somewhat of an enigma. A lot like George W. Bush and Osama, really.

That last sentence was just for the flamebait mod (which my other post somehow avoided).

I think the point is that God is actually evil, while Satan just encourages us to do whatever we want. What other reason is there for killing homosexuals and the like ? The whole book seems geared towards training people to tolerate injustice from those in power. That no doubt accounts for its popularity with leaders.

Slackware is also great for older machines. I put it on an old P133/48mb notebook, along with X and Fluxbox. I run Gentoo on my desktop because I like to piss around, but Slackware would be my obvious choice on a second machine.

My home computer generally has zero ports open. What are you going to do ? Sure I'm susceptible to DDoS, but so is anyone on a residential connection. There is always the possibility of a remote kernel exploit, but something like that will be public knowledge pretty quickly, and if it isn't public knowledge, then the people who know wouldn't be attacking your home computer. How many layers of security does the average person need ? Most people are behind a NAT anyway.

No, I consider it crap font rendering. I've only really use three fonts : Arial, Bitstream Vera Sans, and Courier. You'll notice they look ok :) Anyway I checked and subpixel hinting was off. I turned it on, and Trebuchet and Verdana have improved a bit, but Luxi Sans still has that problem (only at 14pt though, odd).

Anyway, I'm envious of how Georgia looks on OSX (though not for long, I'm getting an iBook), but I don't like the blurriness of Andale Mono. Personally I would like to see screens running at much higher dpi. I tried running my desktop at 1920x1440 once, but there was too much hassle with programs not scaling up. Maybe with all the LCD screens going to 1600x1200 we will see the situation improve.
