Just in case anyone is confused, this is about the Grand Challenge in '05, not the most recent Urban Challenge this year('07).
I was on the Utah DARPA Urban Challenge team, and Princeton was supposed to test right after us every day. Neither of us made it to the finals, and I question the logic that they used in eliminating teams so early. We only had 1 opportunity to try test tracks A and B, and each time we fixed the minor bugs that stopped us. If we had had a second try on either of these tracks, I think we would have had a shot at the finals, but they cut us just as we thought we had all the bugs worked out, and before we could show them what we could do.
I think most teams have stories about what went wrong, and what they should have done, that they didn't do. I know that we did. I know even the winners have goals for what they want to do better next time.
According to the main page right now they only have 5921 different albums to choose from. Wheres the long tail? My music store wont launch with such a puny collection... If it ever does launch, geez, I've been working on it off and on for like 5 years...
Here I was, hoping to upload pictures I took of some untranslated clay tablets, and then I find it only goes the other way! That doesn't help me very much:(
After a little research, their website has this to say about the cheoptics 360:
Is the projected image a true 3D representation?
No, the image seen from all sides is the same. There is not a front, back, left and right side to the 3D projection. However, the image does appear to float in the volume of the pyramid due to the geometry of the glass.
The shape of the construction makes the reflected images appear free floating and can be viewed from 360.
Thats how I describe the temperature of the fuel I usually get. I love filling my motorcycle's tank on a burning hot day. Sitting in the sun the seat and tank can get quite toasty, but fill'er up and sometimes its a little cold.
Email is sent unencrypted in plain text, and any compromised machine used to route info between Ameritrade and and your email service provider could have sniffed your addresses from outside the company. Email is not secure.
I searched the Utah website, and didn't find anything. I called the Utah state legislature, and they didn't know what I was talking about. So I called John Mitchell, who was a source for the article.
He kindly pointed me to Utah House Bill 402 which seems to cover any second hand store.
If the CD contains copyrighted music, video, game data, or text that someone might want in the future, keep it, even if it does not play. I'll tell you why later.
I've often thought after reading that book that the only thing wrong with the system was the brainwashing, and the lack of choice on the part of participants. Reward them economically instead, allow them to quit, and you have this model for getting things done.
The whole thing is a mute point if we actually do create strong AI, which was unexplainably impossible in the story.
In reality, attackers will follow the path of least resistance. In my opinion there is really no reason to have perfect encryption if other aspects of security are so laughable. Even running linux I don't feel truly secure. I have never read the source code for the programs I run. At this point in time, to me, computers are black boxes filled with 'programs' doing 'something', and until it is completely transparent exactly what my computer is doing, I won't feel secure.
these things I require include:
Always on and visible packet sniffer.
complete disk and memory map always available.
completely contained boot sequence that can be checked manually for correctness, and automatically against a hash to detect changes.
Secure path to OS.
This is a short list of what I need to feel secure.
With a patent I can ensure the quality of the offering. I don't want to ever see another DRM infected piece of crap online store ever again, so I'm going to put them all out of business. This particular idea will be best for consumers if there is no corporate competition.
I'm working on a project now that I believe may solve the E-book problem. It will solve a few other similar problems as well, such as the download of video game ROMs. As much as I believe in openness, I applied for a patent on the business method and system because I don't believe anyone else will do it "right".

Shut up and think.
at ~$10k each for a dual cell bladeserver, the 8 PS3s are a much better deal (for less than half the price).

I have 3 laptops. 2 run ubuntu. The third, with vista, sits in a drawer.

Am I the only one who wants to see them drop a stack of these down a stairway?
What kind of screen doors do these people have and where can I buy one?
Seriously, who's never heard of a stellarator before? Certainly anyone who's truly interested in fusion power has read about them.

You want localizers from the Vernor Vinge book "A Deepness in the Sky". They seem possible to me.
Did anyone else find it odd that the woman in the article had more repeats than her grandfather?
1: Rumble
One reason I play my PS2 more than my PS3.
2: Media management
More visualizations, browsing etc
3: multi-tasking
There is no excuse for forcing me to wait for a download to finish to continue browsing.
4: Guitar Hero controller
Another reason I play the PS2 more than PS3.
5: Fun multi-player games
Why I play my friend's Wii more than my PS3.
6: Full access to hardware under linux
A major reason I bought the PS3, and the reason I haven't bothered installing yet.
There's more, but I'm tired.
It has a flash player. Youtube works, as do many other media sites using flash to display content.
The nail is already in the coffin for all existing online music stores. I will put them all out of business.

If it were a format, then I would. It isn't.
