..I was in the libraries basement working on a project, and the macbook pro kept making the intermittent "moo" sound. It was about 11 at night, and no one else was around, so it scared the crap out of me, it sounded like a distant ghost. I felt like an idiot after searching the whole library trying to find out what the noise was when it was right in front of me! I guess I need to make an appointment with the closest apple store to get a replacement.
Yeah, at BestBuy you will end up getting another machine, and we charge $59 for a data transfer from one machine to another. If you have a "Service Plan" on a computer, it will be sent off to a service center to be repaired, and will be back in about 2 weeks. If you have software problems, you can end up spending over $200 to get it cleaned off. How much does the genius bar charge? Of course, GeekSquad is there to capitalize on people's problems, and the GeniusBar is there to help people. I hate my job, I can't wait till I'm out of school.
...it sounded like, "diebold sucks, fraud is bad, open source rocks, hate companies!" I am on a volunteer fire department with a guy who works for diebold, and from his perspective, diebold doesn't seem like that bad of a company. He old does repair and maintenance on ATM Machines though, nothing to do with voting machines.
I'm getting a negative aura from this reporting. I don't think a weird controller is going to awe enough people to their platform. IIRC, the last I heard from the big cheese at Nintendo is that they are working with augmented reality for their next generation of consoles, and now we are getting a speed bump and a hard to use, tiny controller? Is Nintendo still doing the whole "this console is for kids" thing? Most studies show that the average gamer is 27, not 7. I suppose Nintendo is trying to either fill or a niche market or impress a disappointed crowd. I stopped believing in Nintendo ever since the release of the Game Cube.
Everybody is blinded by the media and by schools. Teachers are threatened by the government, and are forced to spread the propaganda to our children, and it is even starting to happen in Universities. Patriotism is being turned into extremism. History teachers and professors know about it, people who read the news from free media outlets such as this one know about it, but the masses cannot even fathom the idea that our government is corrupt and are fixated into this mindset that if a superior (President, Media, Retail Salesman) tells them something, that they must obey and follow. Any out-speak or saying different to them is seen as uncivilized and outrageous.
That's why you keep baking soda in the fridge. It keeps food from smelling, and if you have a little grease fire on the stove, it is only an arms length away. I'm a newbie firefighter, and I went to my first real house fire yesterday, and was there for seven hours. It was in the middle of nowhere, and the whole place burned down.
This is something that could end up penetrating the market in the united states too. I think it's perfect for a young child in America or any other developed country, it looks sturdy, has a USB port for a thumb drive, and can flip over and read like a book. With the right software and interface, it could take over the youth market and get kids working with educational programs and off of myspace and MSN Messenger. I think these teenage social networks and such are what are destroying our youth, something like this may be a solution.
IIRC, Windows NT was able to boot and run on some of the old mac clones that had SCSI drives. However, WinNT PPC was never able to boot on G4's or any other PowerPC platform given the reasons the parent and grandparent posts gave.
I think these editors are starting to feel more and more like high school teachers. They are telling us what to do, and they are grossly misinformed on current events. I say we rebel *stands up and throws a paper wad at the mods*
because the employees who work there are bored and tired of hearing the same questions asked over and over again, and they don't get rewarded for selling more or being nicer to customers. The only thing that keeps them as nice as they are is that they don't want to be fired. Now, a Sears person on the other hand is going to kiss your ass to the cash register so they can get their commission. BestBuy has you memorize and ask questions to these strangers like, "What brings you into bestbuy today?" So a lot of the asshattedness comes from the company telling us to memorize and spill out these sayings/etc. "Would you like the Product Replacement Plan with that?"
I know when my mom was driving through NJ with me, she couldn't get over and was forced into the EZ Pass lane. She just sat there stopped, and everyone was honking at her, so she went through. When we get back home, the Turnpike Authority (or something of that nature) sent us a ticket for $50 or something like that. She sent a check for $0.35, and they cashed it, and she never heard from them again. I am wondering what they could possibly do if you never paid it and never went back to New Jersey again though? Would you still be arrested because of a bench warrant 30 years old if you were to return later on?
The company I work at, BestBuy, has about 800 stores with about 30 people from each store with a company email address. You get about a 2MB mailbox before it locks you out of your email, and you have to change your password once every 2 weeks. Anybody can send you an email, but you can only check it from within the intranet using their web interface through their employee toolkit, or any computer attached to the intranet. Feel free to ask questions.
Other than the whole lightning thing, what can really happen other than crushing yourself or breaking your arm by not having friends help you move it around? Sure, you can fall and stuff, but it seems like it shouldn't be that hard to erect and support a tower. I guess if you really were scared of the tower, you could just attach the antenna to the top of a tree that goes straight up.
In the socially superior world of cisco, most routers have a plug in the back for a direct DC connection for people with dc power running in their racks. It seems the significance of this is that people will be getting DC power going straight into the building rather than AC. People here seem to be thinking that they are just getting rack mounted AC to DC power supplies, and running DC power to each device.
I get offered internships and student worker jobs left and right. I've found I make a lot more money working for myself, and that I am more greatly appreciated while running my own business. My clients seem to be pretty happy people, and in return they pay me good money. Screw these low pay slave jobs, I like being my own boss, it just takes a lot of self motivation to get started. I've been programming since I was about 12 years old though, so that may be put at an advantage. If you are going to take this route though, I'd recommend some business courses, because computer science alone isn't going to teach you how to run an IT business successfully. Working at various computer shops and firms throughout high school probably gave me a leg up, because I analyzed the companies, pointed out their weak spots, and moved on. Working for a big retail company helps too, because you learn a lot of good business practices. Unless something special intrigues me, to where I think I will learn something new, I won't even look at working under somebody else though.
What I don't get is why everyone is getting their panties in a wad over this? They didn't put FireWire 800 in there so that they could free the bus and let you decide what you want to occupy the PCI-E slot. I'd rather have a choice of FW/800, a SATA drive, or a second video card rather than having FW 800 soldered into the board. They didn't put the faster drive in there because it was too big, an d because it didn't actually write at 8x when benchmarked, so they went with the proven drive. Don't even get me started on the internal modem.
Doug Engelbart invented the mouse in 1970, nearly went into debt a time or two, and was finally awarded $500,000 in 1997 through an award presented by MIT. After all the red tape and crap he went though, I don't think I'll be spending 15 years of my life trying to earn a Ph. D. when the results are a product used by everybody in the computing world, and years of debt.
.. woaaaah. Seriously, the reason for this companies existence is to suck up grant money and get attention. They aren't doing anything remotely relevant to space elevator research. I'm going to pretend I never even read this article and move on with my life. There are scientists and organizations doing serious work on carbon nano tubes and space elevators, and this is not one of them.

And now an extra 15,000 script-kiddie-wanna-be's also know. Thanks.
Script kiddie wannabe's. So bad that they can't even write a short script. Joe User says, "I'm gonna get revenge on this guy I don't like"

Everyone seems to mention the left side drive car, but no one pointed out that the license plates are the big long UK ones too!

According to time travelor john titor, there won't be a 2008 Olympics. You might as well give up now.

When you save a page from the net, it puts it all into one nice little file.
if one third of all Americans are just using their computer for fun. Myth indeed

Picasa is more like iPhoto for Windows (and now linux, even though it is just running under wine).
