They want to have a stable, fully supported release for corporate, educational, and home use. Like what Redhat has, with their enterprise release schedule. It's nothing new. Redhat just now adopted the 2.6 kernel in their enterprise version, I believe, after hanging on to the stable 2.4 for so long, not to mention relatively old software versions, by most 'bleeding edge' power users' standards. Going for stable over newest.

KDE 3.4 Released

It will probably be in the cooker soon. Just add a cooker mirror to your urpmi sources, then you can "urpmi kdebase," or something similar to get it. But beware: the cooker is not guaranteed to be stable by any means. If you are itchin' to dive in, Fedora goes for the more cutting edge releases than Mandrake. Mandrake aims more for stability than current releases (as you can tell by their 'outdated' Firefox, Gaim, and other apps on their mirrors).

right on. I am a proud mac owner, but can't stand to use a mac with a one-button mouse. I love my iBook, but thank goodness for the 3-button support, as many audio apps especially use them all.
Word. I've got WIN98SE in vmware as my 'windows machine.' The bloaty XP is something not needed by all persons. Not to mention 98 and 2K take less hard drive space. WIN98SE itself is under ~300MB installed.
Well, it's basically a laptop video chip. Sort of the same one that's on my iBook. Good for Quake 3, but not really for anything more than UT2004. It's not as bad as it sounds, although you are right they seem to talk it up quite a bit.
What about Sony MiniDisc?

Apple Updates iPod

Any Sony Mini Disc owners out there? I'm possibly looking to buy one of those. The high capacity discs (1GB I think) are impressive, not to mention being able to record concerts/rehearsals if you are a musician. Seems like a good alternative music player (at ~$250) that never comes up in the Dell vs. Creative vs. Apple mp3 player discussions.
No kidding. We already tell the bad guys how to pull something off in all our our US action movies. This is all we need now- tell them our weaknesses, publically. Good grief.
Thunderbird or outlook express starts just as fast on a 400Mhz machine as a 3Ghz machine. I can understand hard core gamers or pro studios/labs who need the beefy cpu, but I hope this turns the trend to making more efficient processors, as we are hitting the 4Ghz barrier now. If we just crank it more, won't cpus soon be putting out microwaves soon? Not to mention need water cooling.
It is just as interesting what they don't say as well as what they do. CNN says whatever is going to make them the most money. Money = priority no. 1; not news or facts, unfortunately. Thank goodness for the BBC.
This is obviously a serious matter, but we should not believe anything that Kim Jong Il says without adequate proof.
This is serious. What Bush does and says to this may make everything a LOT worse. Showing your fists and your big army with bombs ready to "spread freedom" is not the way to peace. It's good to be a tough guy, but I HOPE and PRAY that Bush doesn't threaten N Korea. That method does not work. It just makes the other side more willing to get nukes and attack us. We may have WWIII on our hands already.
GD: [snip] Now the question is: what's the cost of the Mac Mini without MacOS?
Seriously, this is Apple traditional (and excellent) marketing and communication.
I always wondered- are those Sonys hard to type on? B/c there is no hard surface to rest your wrist when you type like with other laptops. Good looking little laptop though.
Looks like there will be a 10.3.9 update soon, interestingly enough.
Gnumeric is a piece of junk. It crashed during the first five minutes after I started trying it out.
Gnumeric opens and reads many advanced sheets that OO.o can't handle, especially ones with charts or other advanced componets.
Try it yourself.

Fink. The gaim version in Fink works fine.
Looking at this article there is indeed a native OS X port coming. Woo-hoo!

Geez thanks for the -1 redundant, even though this was one of the first replies on this article.
RTFA guys he's not running OS X. I really hate misleading slashdot articles.
Here.

Slightly OT, but this guy is brilliant.
heh.
Most tv card apps can record from FM also, the same way you schedule them to record a tv channel.
