Gamestop is showing the PC expansion at $30, so it's the classic expansion price. I'm a little confused about where MTV is getting the 15 hours metric from, as I haven't seen that anywhere else.
At a previous job, we had a team of people - called slicers - that received.psd files from the graphic designers and cut them into html for the programmers to integrate into a database driven backend. It was basically an assembly line for cheap websites.
That's great for now, but if that approach becomes more common, it will be just as easy to overcome as today's CAPTCHAs. The article is saying that we need systems that take automation out of the picture. Caps on number of messages/emails sent. Heuristic "profiling" on accounts. Reverse spam filtering. Methods that catch the bots after registering, rather than relying on the registration form as your sole defense.
Awesome! I got modded troll for giving a sarcastic response to a troll that was modded Interesting. If only there were a "don't feed the trolls" option.
Probably get modded down for this.. for "religion" has always struck me as a haven for the fearful, those who lack self-esteem, or narcissistic personalities looking for external justification for their insane behaviour.
When such an individual is confronted with the prospect of death.. all that doubt, self-loathing and regret must really be a lot to suddenly bear when they "know" they're about to face the final judge.
lol and slashdot is a haven for fat slobs living in their parents' basement making up lies about their sex lives to post on the intertron.
Actually, the Sims is now the best selling PC game of all time, and that's definitely because of gameplay. There were much better looking games that came out at the same time.
In any case, I disagree that the attraction to Myst was the beautiful landscape. Everyone I know that fell in love with the game say it was the immersion. Think about it: this was the first game for most people where they walk around and have this great story and feel like they're really a part of this strange world.
With an Xbox 360 purchase you have to retain your old Xbox or be left with a stack of shiny coasters.
That has yet be confirmed. And if you want to avoid getting modded a troll, try avoiding inflammatory names like Xblob.

Ok, I agree that our lives have become much easier, and we have more spare time than in ages past. However, I have a difficult time believing that there was ever a period in human history when there weren't special days spent doing something besides struggling mightily to ward off death.
And boy am I way off-topic at this point. Personally, I'm not taking a sick-day to go see Star Wars, I'm not that interested in the film despite all the current hype it's receiving. I do however think that these types of events should be encouraged. To some people this is (sadly) one of the most important events in their lives.

Compare our lives today to the lives of humans 5,000 years ago when they had to work almost all of the time they were awake, just to stay alive.
Really? If you're asking for real data from your parent poster, where's your data? You don't think people ever had parties or went to worship services 5,000 years ago?

And he sweated bullets. Literally and figuratively.
Wow, so did these bullets actually discharge and fly into the audience injuring hundreds? I guess that would have been in the news, so they must have just fallen to the floor. Gives new meaning to the phrase "pocket full of shells."
Should I have inserted a large number of spelling and/or grammatical errors in my post to aid you in reading and understanding it?
Well, this is Slashdot, after all. By the way, have you considered joining one of the local grammar/spelling-nazi clans here? I understand that they're looking for people with your particular skillset.
Aren't all laws based in morals? I mean, I'm no student of the Law, but at some point, Society determines which behaviors are acceptable and which are not. A lot of people talk about how we should get rid of all these "religiously-motivated laws," but I think that all our laws were founded in religion at some point. The Constitution doesn't say anything about not having religious laws, it just says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;" meaning that there should be no state-sponsored religion like the Anglican Church many people fled to America to avoid.
I really didn't intend to get into a flame-war with you. I hope you don't plan on getting angry at every person who replied to your comment, because there are quite a few.
That's funny, I always have to chuckle everytime somebody posts "This isn't News for Nerds" to a story on Slashdot. I don't think you have to find every story interesting to be able to appreciate the site. You could always just move on without complaining.
The point isn't whether they made money off this generation (which I think they are starting to do with all the games sales, but I don't have any data to back that up). Their goal is to dominate the market in the next generation of consoles. Microsoft hasn't exactly been shy about their goal of being the exclusive provider of home entertainment hardware and software.

I actually had this same idea and have encouraged many of my friends to spread the word. I don't know if enough people will actually go through with the boycott to make a difference, but it would be cool if we did.
Sent you an invite. Slashdot's comment system doesn't exactly allow for speedy replies, does it.
An invite is on its way.
I've sent you an invite. Good luck.
Actually, I just double checked and either my eyes failed me yesterday or the price for the PC version has gone up to $40. That's a shame.

Wait, can someone please explain to me why this is modded insightful? I can understand funny, but insightful?

I'm not real worried about fleeing the country. I'm sure we'll take the rest of the world down with us.
