    Apparently, by your logic, the government has the right to plant surveillance devices in my home without a court order or warrant.

    You obviously don't understand something. They didn't use GPS to look inside this guys car. They used it to know where the car was, it's very different. By the parent's logic, the government has the right to know where your house is all the time. I would say that's fair.

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    The car is not being searched or seized without a warrant, it's just being located. The police cannot search your car for drugs without a warrant (they can take a peak inside your windows but they can't move anything) but they can search for your car on the road. The GPS just makes it easier to do that. And yes you can put a GPS on my car, you won't find anything interesting just a lot of trips to Taco Bell.

    Fry's isn't so bad... I went there and talked to this saleswoman about the processor, RAM and video card that I wanted. Then I asked her what motherboard would be best for the combination, she told me which one would be good and that it supports dual channel and it'd be cheaper for me to get two sticks of 512 instead of one stick of one gig. She also gave me a returned motherboard so it'd be like $30 off. Plus Fry's has some really good prices on stuff especially when you need to find something right away. Best Buy is the exact opposite, they never have what you need, it usually costs way more than it should, and the staff normally can't help you with anything.

    You can't report something that didn't happen, how are you supposed to know if it was going ot happen if it didn't? Otherwise the news might be a lot better "Millions of people didn't die today, as a nuclear weapon was not launched at NY." I'm sure thousands of kids DIDN'T lose their legs, I'm sure it was millions even, all because of some thing that may of happened recently that made some other thing much safer. But like I said, you'd never know about it because it is something that didn't happen.

    I dunno, I've had nothing but Samsung phones and all of them seem to be the toughest phones. My sister dropped her samsung phone into a river, it still worked. I dropped my S105 quite a number of times from much more than 6'. The one time it broke was because two people were fighting over the phone and one crushed the screen on the other persons hand. The phone was replaced free (didn't even have to pay S&H.)

    My current phone from samsung (forgot the model number) lets me adjust the white balance, exposure, and some other things. It's not better than my Canon EOS Digital Rebel but there have been a lot of times where I could really use a camera but didn't have time to setup my SLR. Plus the phone has a built in light for the camera, so if it's too dark I can turn the light on. There are so many features in a phone that people say are quite useless, and they usually are useless for that person, but just because it's useless to you, doesn't mean it's useless to everyone.

    If it happened ~3,000 years ago no one would have known about it. Anyone who wasn't around to see it would never find out it happened, and people who were around would be dead. There would probably be no record of it, except maybe something we'd consider today to be a myth like Atlantis. Also there would be much less dead as there are many more people living on the planet today than ~3,000 years ago.

    Hey it can't just be a calvin and hobbes sticker, calvin has to be pissing on the rival CPU maker. It makes your processor feel stronger to see the rival chip maker logo being pissed on, so it runs faster.

    You buy a X'S-Drive. I think they have like 20-80 GB versions, and most of them have a slot for every time of card. I want to get one so when I'm hiking on a very long trip I don't need to carry around a laptop as well (which is light in comparison to some of my photography equiptment but it'd still be unecessary if I had one of these X'S-Drives.)

    As a person who has tried many many times to educate people on what not to download, I can say their best judgment is quite shitty. I've shown all kinds of banners not to click on, fake dialog boxes, fake errors, mallicious software, to one of my aunts and one of my uncles, neither one of them has stopped downloading spyware. Both of their computers are like a warzone where programs fight for resources, icons fill up their system tray, pop ups eclipse their desktops, it's a real mess. My uncle, who lives in MA (I live in NYC) blames me every time he gets new spyware. My aunt (his wife, not the aunt with spyware problems) thanks me when I remove the stuff cause she knows he installs it, she doesn't know how really and I always try to explain it, but for some reason it seems to be over their heads. And my aunt with spyware problems thinks all the problems are just because of viruses she gets in her e-mail (even after I've explained it'd be very hard for her to get a virus in her e-mail because AOL scans e-mails for viruses.)

    It's like explaining to someone who's been watching an hour of commercials, and has just had 20 door to door salesmen coming to their house, not to buy ANYTHING. Some people can resist all the advertising and sales pitches, but then there are those people who will buy anything you try to sell them. Those are the people who get infected most by spyware.

    As a person who builds a lot of computers, I don't have a clue what you're talking about. The street prices for these processors are lower than the 512K cache versions with the same clock speeds. I buy these for all of my budget computers (anything under $600.)

    While I think that programmers are "evolving", the analogy with "Blacksmith and the Bookkeeper" is not right.

    Yes it is, those jobs are STILL HERE, the only difference is that now the jobs are different. There are still machinists to do metal work, and bookkeepers are still around, in their old form and some (mostly all) that do their work on computers.

    I believe that the problem is that the software is becoming so complex that what could have been done by one-person years ago, takes a team these days. I remember that in 1991 I wrote several systems like inventory managers, stuff like that. Today you require testers, DBA expert, GUI designers...

    It's not required, it just makes getting a product faster. And how would that make programmers disappear? It would create more programming jobs, not less.

    I think it is more like what happened to the aviation industry. In the 1900 you could build your own airplane, there were people building airplanes all over the world. Today, only a few companies can do that, and the demand for airplane-building skills is gone. Well, not gone, its just that it has changed, now you have to specialize in some area, you can not know ALL what is required to build an airplane. ( well, unless you are Burt Rutan)

    Anyone can still build an airplane. The simple design that worked in the early 1900s still works today. The only difference is that today the plane would be quite inferior to the newest Boeing, or Gulfstream. And I don't recall there ever being a huge demand for airplane-building skills.

    Yes they will. The video games still exist, as long as they exist politicians and parents will pin the blame on them. As well as TV, movies and music. They'll also blame the store for selling to the kids, and put tighter restrictions. So instead of needing an ID to purchase video games, you'll need a background check, and there'll be a 6 month waiting period. It really bothers me to see crap like this happen, and the parents and children are never to blame. Isn't there some way to prove that some people are just born really fucked up in the head, and they would have eventually snapped even if they didn't play Doom 3?

    And I love how people forget things back in the day and say "Oh the violence today is horrible, in my day we didn't have any of this." That's such bull shit. Sure they didn't have kids going into their school with an AK-47 blasting everyone away, but they'd have lynch mobs, which are many times worse (as many MANY people would be involved, including children who were normally very happy and excited to see a lynching take place.)

    Let's see, the average persons friend sends them a file called funny.exe. The average person really enjoying the kind of crap that their friend's send them online, executes funny.exe (which by the way will show up as just "Funny" on the average computer as extensions are hidden by default) gets infected by the worm, notices they get a ton of pop ups, porn sites, all kinds of junk and their computer runs really slow, blames the manufacturer of the PC (Gateway, Dell, IBM, whatever.) Never realizes it was an issue with MSN to begin with, continues on with their life promising to never buy another computer from Gateway, Dell, IBM, whatever. I've seen it happen so many times. My uncle even blames me for the crap that gets installed on his computer (usually while I'm not there, as I live 300 miles away) and doesn't really thank me when I install ad-aware and get rid of the junk (thinking whatever he just did on the computer made everything work right.)

    I have the same small picture problem with HDTV. Except my TV is 56" instead of 32". I also have an added feature for changing the aspect, so if I want I can make it stretch the image with the bars on top, or I can zoom on the small picture (chopping slightly some of the outer edges, which I usually don't notice until I view the smaller picture.) It's pretty nice but I'd still rather see the full picture take up the full screen.

    Damn you're right the apple is cheaper. Oh wait that's right I priced out the PC with the best video card, processor, double the ram, over triple the hard drive space, great mouse (with more than one button!), and a great keyboard. Oh and I forgot, a 19" CRT, if the CRT wasn't there the PC would actually be cheaper (and still better since the Apple didn't even come with a monitor.)

    Apple's are sweet computers, but they're VERY expensive. The PC has an advantage since many many companies make parts for PCs, only one company makes apple hardware, and do they even sell any of it by itself if you want to build your own?

    Can I please ask why any individual would steal these game systems? It's pointless to sell them in bulk if you steal them one at a time, you sell them each for a lot more than you'd get if you sold them in bulk. Like a lot of people said, this looks like a store that went out of buisiness that's just clearing out its inventory.

    I don't see anything about people using the technology since 1994. It says Honeywell filed the patent in 1994. 2 major companies (LG and Samsung) have liscensed the technology. The companies they are suing have used the technology and have not liscensed it. Honeywell has every right to sue them.

    This isn't a problem with patents, it's a problem with some companies using technology that they didn't liscense. There are major companies liscensing the technology from honeywell, they're suing the people who didn't liscense it. I don't see what's wrong here. Honeywell was making money off their idea, some people started using it before the patent expired without honeywell's permission, and now honeywell is suing them. Isn't that what the patent system is for?

    I dunno what you're trying to tell yourself, but I'm pretty sure sugar is not addictive. Maybe it is and there are a lot of people immune to the addiction. I know a lot of people who don't like sweet things at all, and I'm not one for too much sugar either.

    And what soft drinks do you drink that give you a "buzz"? I don't think I've ever got a "buzz" or any kind of feeling from pepsi other than "Hey this tastes great!" I've felt something after drinking a few Bawls but never anything from a regular cola. I drink caffine free pepsi just the same as I drink normal pepsi, I really enjoy the taste. But there are times when I just stop drinking pepsi (it's no longer available or I'm not in the mood to drink it) so I drink water or something.

    I dunno, I don't think the world of Doom 3 would be any better if it were 2D, it'd probably look worse (it'd probably be flat and boring.) It's a damn sexy game when you have the details turned way up. I just can't wait for the next great engine from ID Software and the $500 nvidia card to display it.

    Sales tax is actually the only tax I like, since the rich can't get out of it easily. Poor Boy chose to spend his entire yearly income on a car. Rich Boy bought a relatively cheap car and only spent 1/5th his yearly income on a car. Poor Boy could have bought a $4,000 car but decided the $20,000 car was worth it. If Rich Boy spent a years income on a car ($300,000) he would have had to pay the same amount of his income in taxes (which would be $15,000.) If you think about it, how many companies just get away with write offs?

    Donating something to a museum or giving free software away (valued at retail price, not the price of the media) can cover much more than $15,000 and cost the giver much less. At least with sales tax there are no write offs and no way to get out of paying the tax (except to buy things out of state, which I wouldn't mind changing if there was ONLY sales tax.) A lot of rich people spend a lot less than poor people on taxes, and it would not be that way with a federal sales tax, as the rich usually spend much more money than the poor.

    People keep their cat's litter box in the bathroom? Might as well keep it in the kitchen or your bedroom. Why keep it in a room where you spend a lot of time? Do people like smelling cat shit?

    People don't like smelling cat shit, especially when they're eating or sleeping. But when they're taking a shit, the cat shit doesn't seem to bother them much. Maybe you should change your diet if you spend more time in the bathroom than in your kitchen or bedroom.

    I kept my cat's litter box in the bathroom, it's a good idea because with just a little training you can get the cat to use the toilet. You slowly raise the litter box to the level of the toilet (like maybe put one magazine under it every day.) Then you put it on the toilet, then you eventually cut a small hole in the litter box, making the hole bigger and bigger every day till the cat's going to the bathroom in the toilet (or you use a bowl, and keep taking more and more litter out till you've got nothing but water in the thing, then you remove the bowl and the cat can use the toilet.) Plus you don't normally have carpet in the bathroom so it's easier to clean up stray kitty litter (doesn't get caught in a rug.)

    Valve didn't really have any multi-player in HL? What about the multi-player everyone played before mods came out, you know the Half-Life mutliplayer that is part of half-life? I played that all the time, I loved killing people with the cross bow.
