Seriously, who is running these companies and why are investors not extremely upset about this?
People who don't read Slashdot on a regular basis - I'm sure investors would be, but does the RIAA have investors? Last I checked it isn't a publicly traded company. Record companies are - but you going to try and take every single one of them down? That's the real power of the RIAA - they only affect a small minority of people in reality - mom and pop who have no clue (ironicly the same people who run Windows with no clue) have no problem with all these restrictions and problems.
NO No no - you see - we moved the DNS root servers over the GMT timeline when this story was first posted, and moved them back in time for this one. So you see, it really is yesterday!
Selling snake oil just got profitable again. People like you rock.
Actually, companies like Microsoft rock - its really not about me at all. I don't recall actually telling anyone what I do - but I can assure you it isn't spamming, or any other nefarious type marketing - I don't sell penile enlargements or V14gr4 but I do dabble in the adult industry, so to speak. I was just stating an opinion that might of been overlooked with all the Google fanboys jumping all over this announcement.
These 'snake oil' marketers would rather this type of situation not get noticed.
I have an adwords account as well, one of the possibilities might be that the MSN market would generate more revenue? Consider that the users who use Google might be smarter than the ones on MSN due to the fact that those people who don't know how to change the default homepage after installing windows might be a viable market to advertise to:)
Go figure, so some guy quickly makes a blog about this exact thing so he can get mass hits off Slashdot....
If you search for interesting and well constructed points of view it presently
returns zero hits. But if you look for whining it returns a little short of 100000
web pages. Hmm.

The SEO companies are already working on ways to defeat the system, this seems to be one of them.
To hear that the Red Cross is bringing in telecom equipment surprises me.
Me also - I'm sorry, but if a hurricane just blew my house over, that last thing I'd be worried about is getting my network up. What the heck is the Red Cross doing with someone who has a "Network Services" title? I always thought that the Red Cross meant "Help for the needy in disasters" but now I don't think im ever going to give a dime to them, if this is how they justify spending my DONATION. Why spend a ton of cash on satellite equipment when the HAMs can do it (and WANT to do it) for free? Seems like we got some interest groups meddling in there somewhere, or some director looking for some quick perks.
I had a Wired subscription as well, and recently cancelled, however I can NOT believe how many freakin times I have recived a "bill" in the mail for another $40.00 CDN to continue my subscription. So I decided to call them up, and verbally cancelled and ensured that verbally it was cancelled. So it goes. Then I get another bill/invoice for $40.00 CDN, I phone them back and state, "I don't care whatever buttons you gotta punch to make it end up like this but, I dont want anything else, period, no offers, remove me from any lists I'm on, put your Privacy Flag on my account, and make sure my status is CANCELLED. Thank you."
I received one more card from them later on, stating everything was finally cancelled and have heard nothing since then. With this much hassle in cancelling your subscription I am *NEVER* ever re-subscribing to them again, besides, you can go to wired.com anyways, and just read everything thats in the magazine in full (yes - I've sat and compared the online version and the magazine version) - the only difference is the 70% of ads they plow into it and all their NEXFest promotional stuff.
I subscribed because the articles are very well written and researched, and thought I might support them a bit, but never again.

Perhaps it should say "DOS ain't done 'till Lotus.... wait... WTF is Lotus?"
;)
Perhaps you should flip those burgers, your break is over and your late!
Seriously, Lotus is the defacto standard for interoffice mailing systems. Your next job in an office, is probably using it.
I've been paying GoDaddy to host my Malware all this time?!
