Windows skills are cheap and plentiful. People may dabble with Linux, but those who truly know their stuff are probably already earning lots as a Unix or Linux admin.
Nokia were too early with the Ngage. Plus they produced a gaming phone that nobody really wanted to own, it wasn't a nice looking device.
Apple have made a desirable device, many games can be downloaded on the device or wifi and it has a large screen. The control mechanism isn't exactly ideal, but it doesn't seem to put off people.
It wasn't long ago that so called industry experts were saying the games on the iPhone were gimmicy and accelerometer/touch screen games would never catch on.
Any fan boy will say that, regardless of the platform. A fan boy is someone with an irrational brand loyalty.
I don't class myself as an Apple fan boy, I didn't get an iPhone until it was developed enough to meet my needs. I'm not sure I will get a 3GS when my contract ends in Feb 2010.
Perhaps if Ballmer spent less time criticising Apple and criticising his own product then things would be better for Windows Mobile?
WM7 is only late because it probably started life as another rehash of Windows Mobile and needed a drastic rethink when the iPhone appeared.
Linus is obviously only referring to the kernel, he's not saying Linux distros are bloated, there's so many to choose from you can't really generalise.
What it comes down to is the design of the kernel. Being monolithic you are going to have a kernel which comes with millions of drivers instead of a core kernel and downloadable drivers. Linux comes with desktop drivers, server drivers, phone drivers, router drivers and any drivers for other device which can run Linux.
Perhaps Linux should be forked and a mobile/embedded version be created?
They actually bother to look, unlike many pedestrians who listen for traffic. Cyclists have to brake sharp or take evasive action to avoid these clowns.
I thought robots would be doing all the house work by now?
Ok, we have mowbots and vacuum cleaners, but they're pretty simple.
There's certainly been very little progress in the computer interface in years. It's still largely WIMP.
Now I don't really want a computer I have to talk to or wave my arms around like a idiot to use. But surely some form of human-computer interface progression is possible?
Microsoft can't bring out anything to compete with Google. It fails in search, fails in consumer electronics (Other than the XBox, but they are unreliable).
It has had an unpopular Windows launch, competition from Apple in the computer market and phones.
They're a sore loser, their empire can't last forever. Perhaps if they were nicer people and spoke to their competitors instead of trying to blitz them off the face of the planet then they might come across as people that you want to buy from or work with?
Today on the news there was a story about a 90 year old widow who was beaten and mugged on the way to a visit of her husbands grave to lay flowers.
Why on earth can such sick things happen and it doesn't get Police resources yet a media mogul can have a nice dinner party with Lord Mandy and all of a sudden resources are found to tackle online file sharing?
This world is seriously messed up when unauthorised non-commercial sharing of copyright media is more important than the safety of the public. Politicians need to focus on serving the public, not big businesses.
Apple created iPhone OS and are developing it with each release.
Nokia and others keep developing platforms, then letting them stagnate, then dropping them and creating another platform.
Just give your users some continuity, stop switching between platforms, it seriously annoys developers as they don't have time to master a platform and it annoys users who get sick of rebuying applications for each device.
Honestly, the public transport companies are such losers. Overpriced, overcrowded, inconvenient etc.. etc.. Someone creates a tool which might actually make the use of a train a bit more convenient and the people who stand to profit from this are suing the developer?
Many WIndows users who were late getting into computing have only ever used XP. Others will have used 95 and 98 and XP's interface is basically just a themed version of 98 or a tweaked version of Windows 2000.
Rather than refine the desktop Microsoft threw much of it away and started again. This is the problem, novice users who don't want to be out of their comfort zone.
Indeed, this nice meal with Mr Geffen was surely nothing short of the best. I very much doubt it was a fact finding mission, a discussion over pizza and a couple of cans of pop.
This sort of thing needs to be made illegal, not downloading media. Politicians are supposed to represent all of the people, not just the rich and famous.
This guy has probably done a few too many drugs and is now freaked out by radio waves? what about 3G, GPS, UHF, Satellite TV etc...
Radio waves are everywhere, it's only because people are paranoid about Wifi and there's been a few stupid TV documentaries about it that makes people think Wifi is dangerous.
There's been two or so PSP versions so far. What use would another PSP with similar dimensions and UMD be?
Obviously they don't want to go down the cartridge route and downloading games is becoming the norm now, see iPod/iPhone.
So the format isn't the problem, it is how Sony have implemented it.
Come on, other phones allow this.
What next? stop an application from accessing the phone book?
I'm sure you usual computer is vulnerable too, what is stopping some software stealing all your email addresses?
In organisations where data is sensitive they use smartcards.
If you make the same smartcard open the doors to the building then you ensure that nobody will leave it in their PC while they go out for a break.
But what about staff training, support etc..?
Windows skills are cheap and plentiful. People may dabble with Linux, but those who truly know their stuff are probably already earning lots as a Unix or Linux admin.
Given people wrap normal metal cables up too tight and break them I suspect glass ones will last a fraction of the time.
Fibre is great, but it's use is probably intended for high end interconnects in pro video and audio kit.

Ballmer laughed off the iPhone when it came out. An appstore and a billion plus downloads later and who is laughing?
Microsoft can't even launch an mp3 player that is good, they haven't even bothered launching it in the UK and much of Europe.

Ride a bicycle and you can extend 90% to all drivers. They speed, pass too close and are very impatient.
They claim they pay for the roads when in fact in the UK the roads are paid for by a combination of council tax and income tax.
Fit speed limiters and black box recorders on all cars. Drivers just can't be trusted to obey the law.
So the old joke about a bald spot being a solar panel for a sex machine was completely wrong.
Exploit bugs in the software code to unlock the phone?
It's a long shot but might be possible.
Who in their right mind has a party for an operating system?
Go outside, do something interesting, take photos, go mountain climbing, skiing, surfing or mountain biking.
Have a party with music, drink and friends, but don't talk about computers unless you want the chicks to leave.
They seem to love them when they're talking about Linux stealing their IP.
I get the impression Ballmer loves them, but maybe others don't?
I thought robots would be doing all the house work by now?

XCode is free, only deploying to a real iPhone/iPod and selling in the app store costs money.
Why should anyone pay money to develop for WinMo? it's market share has shrunk and C++ isn't a nice to write in as Objective C.

"after intense lobbying...."
More like after a dinner, champagne and some coke aboard a luxury yacht.
Talk about buying a politician and bending their thinking.
