Macs still are best for people who want to do audio, graphics, DTP work and little else.
Although I have a cheap motherboard with a Duron 1200 doing 32-bit 18 track stereo audio recording (with FX) no problem.
x86 still is cheaper, if you're cheaper you can get a higher spec for the same money as buying a Mac. Quietening a Mac is a lot harder than a self built PC too, do anything major and you have no warranty any more, at least with a self built machine you have no warranty to start with (except those on the parts).
Blair was Microsoft friendly, buying Bill's junk and asking him for advice. But like other UK government projects it hasn't been done very well and many of the sites are only compatible with IE.
Now there's talk of a lack of interaction between systems and in my eyes going for a GPL solution is better.

What seems to annoy people is the way they don't innovate. They see something popular and then think "we'll have you", they make an alternative and try to find a way of slipping it into the OS by default.
It cannot be terminated? In 20 years will SCO be sending back an android lawyer from the future back in time to take out the guy who signed the deal?:)
Why is it competition? it's not like you have to buy either of the browsers.
Microsoft will end up losing a fair slice of browser users by admitting defeat on the Mac. The excuse that they don't have full access to the Mac OS layers is a weak one, if IE wasn't so tailored to the Windows desktop (to the point of actually being part of the desktop) then it would be easier to port.
You don't see Mozilla folks complaining about access to hidden APIs.
Except that plastics are often made from petroleum distilates, so by reducing normal plastic you are reducing petrol usage.
I think all plastics should be made from more natural materials, they degrade better and aren't using finite resources. Nobody needs a store carrier bag that lasts thousands of years.
Since mail order isn't as convienient as going to a shop (delay waiting for the delivery) and for those who can't go to a shop (disabilties etc...) it's a lifeline to use the Internet.
How about adding better methods for repairing partitions with bad blocks?
I lost three partitions of data that were formatted with ReiserFS and I was unable to repair them. Creating an image of a partition is simply unacceptable IMHO as part of a data recovery process, suppose you have 600GB of data?
Which is why I have excellent karma? have you thought of actually posting with your username instead of being a wussie anonymous coward.
Very nice constructive debate you have, ever thought of working in government?
Not suggesting the hardware or OS isn't up to the job, it's more that there's a lot less software for the Mac.
Of course I have.
Are you trying to suggest that Windows is better for all of the above?
You might wish to flesh out you opinion on the matter instead of rejecting my argument with a throwaway one liner.
Horses for courses, some like Windows, some like OSX and others prefer something like Linux.

"I'll be back"
I also think it sucks, it's overpriced, of questionable use and using one on a pavement/sidewalk is just asking for accidents.
Technically superb, but as a long term product I'm not so sure. It just brings laziness to an all time high.
and of course if Lindows isn't their cup of tea they can always replace it.
Lindows runs as root all the time, so it has very little security advantages IMHO.
I would also think that peripheral support will be weaker than say Red Hat or Mandrake. Simply due to the type of user using the OS.
Shouldn't that be "SCOOOO dead"? :)
But something needs to be done to stop the way Microsoft works hard to make sure the only choice is their products.
If this reduces the choice to various open source and non commercial solutions then this weakens Microsoft's strangehold on the market.
That used to be the case, times have changed and it's only clueless idiots who make their sites IE only these days.

I'm more interested in how cool these chips run. Since nobody is really tackling the problem of noisy PCs.
Windows is already a generic term, you just uncapitalise the first letter and you can use it all you like.
So I guess unix and not Unix is also the generic term?
Since mail order isn't as convienient as going to a shop (delay waiting for the delivery) and for those who can't go to a shop (disabilties etc...) it's a lifeline to use the Internet.
Exactly, if you can't beat em, buy em. Cut off their air supply.
Some companies are too fussy to deploy open source antivirus software.
They may have released it as Caldera Linux, but this instance is in SCO Unix which hasn't had it's code released.
Now is it 1 billion working chips or just 1 billion?
What's the yield like on modern CPUs?
Yeah, how Anti-american of them to sign a Linux deal with IBM, that famous bulgarian computer giant.
Paint on the side... "Try and examine the code on this SCO" :)

Yes, although I'm going back to University this year to do my final year.
I live in an area that's not exactly full of jobs. I moved here from the south east of England and gave up a role I had there.
MCSEs are ten a penny and a range of skills is better for some roles than just knowing Windows.
