I looked at both manchester and newcastle, ended up down at imperial though. Half way through my degree I don't quite know why I didn't choose manchester (my 2nd favourite)
I remember going around the university which he got his bachelors from. It seemed to be one of their big selling points that he had been there - needless to say I decided I decided to go somewhere that wasn't trying to sell itself on someone who had nothing to do with EE!
What? You seem to be suffering from classic/.er syndrome of "if i can do it so can everyone" - would anyone use live if you had to put a PCI NIC into the XBOX? i think not. Also, very few will use a service if extra hardware needs to be bought, even less if it may suffer from incompatibilities. Plus inbuilt wi-fi will require much less space on the PCB, thus decreasing the size of the console. No chance in hell nintendo will provide a PCI slot.
Especially for a crappy LCD monitor. Call me crazy, but actually having the color black AND actually being able to view the screen from differnet angles are very important to me.
And what about burn-in. Who wants to spend several thousand on a TV that WILL need replacing in three to four years?!
On a plasma you get true blacks. You also have ~175degree viewing angle, which is practically perfect. Burn in is a non issue - it's only the first 100hours that you need to worry about it for.
Well for a start games are normally only localised for the core EU markets - Taking a look on the back of the nearest GC game to me (ikaruga) i see - Game is in english, instructions in english, french, german, spanish, italian, finnish, norwegian and portuguese. Are you really telling me that it takes 6months for some translators to translate 1000words or so in a manual? I think not...
But the receipt problem shouldn't be too much of a problem, because i expect that with a techy item like a hard drive at least 80% of hard drive purchases are made online. So instead of keepiong a small piece of paper its just an email you need to find.
The $-£ conversion wasn't quite true, the prices used to be $299, $399, $499 for the 15gb, 20gb and 40gb respectively. The UK prices were £250, £300 and £400 for each. Not quite $1=£1, but not miles off.
Interesting, both models now ship with USB2 cables as well as firewire. And free laser engraving for the time being. And, surprisingly for apple their both shipping in "2-4 days" in the UK and "1-2 days" in the USA. Very Exciting!
The best bit about this i feel is that apples changed the exchange rate for the UK. In the USp the 20gb now costs what the 15gb did and the 40gb costs what the 20gb used to be. But in the UK we get the 20gb model for GBP30 cheaper than the 15gb model used to be(GBP220vs GBP250). Hurray for apple!
I believe that the $100 Tv tuner isn't doing any encoding, it's just offloading that to the processor - the mpeg encoder chip increases the price quite a lot. Plus with a dvd recorder the picture will be much much better - have you seen the quality of wome of the cheap Tv tuners?
that's true, but it still is either going to mean a big loss my MS at first before sales pick up (and therefore production) or theyll have to price it highly, so will price out many customers, so noone will buy it, so they dont get large scale production etc. Theres no way there will be a 3.5ghz 3 core processor in the X-box next. 1.5-2 possibly, i think its most likely going to be about a 1.8ghz processor but unlike the current X-box it will be specially designed with games in mind, as in the GC and PS2.
This just isnt going to happen. think about it, a new powermac G5 costs well over 1.5k($2k) at the moment, and thats only with 2x2ghz processors. Whilst i understand this is different as it is 3core on one die, it still isn't going to happen, as the price would be fenomenal, e.g. 500 ($700-800) and this would just be suicide for microsoft. They can either take a huge loss, or sell it at a ridiculous price, either way they lose.
This is all jsut hype, just like there has been with every other console ever released. Ignore it until the console is on sale.
Well i certainly was waiting for iTMS then went nuts when it did open (if you call 6 songs going nuts that is). The other services were often expensive and were.wma, which even though i use windows i dislike as i prefer iTunes to any other music software. The other services were also very DRMed, and so i didn't ever know if I could burn a CD of my songs, whether i could share them, anything really. iTMS isnt perfect (namely lack of independents) but is a hell of a lot better than anything else
It has come out in japan, but i believe it is only used in animal forest+ (animal crossing in the US) and is used as you mentioned - for taking photos and then printing them.
No, i don't particularly. The point i was trying to make was that in a system which is 3/4years old, where around 128mb would be the norm, Winamp tends to run far better than itunes, however if you have the power for iTunes, then go for it, perhaps i should have made that more clearer. and as for 512 being "barely middle end" i strongly disagree. My system is currently running firefox (with around 10 tabs open), iTunes and a vast array of software in the taskbar (Win XP). My memory usage: 260mb out of 512mb. And it runs perfectly for pretty much everything, the only time it slows is with heavy image/video work, where yes, more memory (up to around 1gb) would certainly be used on a lesss general purpose machine. At risk orf sounding like Bill Gates, 512mb should be enough for any current average desktop user, who is likely to be running far less software than me
It's a good bit of software, even version 5, bloated as it is. However, for more powerful computers (read 192mb Ram+) I prefer iTunes, simply because it seems a bit more usable, with smart playlists, everything in one version (no ripping and burning only in pay versions as winamp has adopted). My only complaint is that the music store isn't available in the UK yet.
the N64 had 4mb of ram. This could be doublked to 8mb with the expansion pack, making the graphgics better for some games (Donkey kong 64 needed it, i think majoras mask did too, and it was compatible with ocarina of time, turok 2)

Uk apple store still has it, as does the French, Spanish, German, Austrian and Irish (and i'm guessing the rest of the world apart from The USA, but I'm too lazy to check any more countries.) They start from 999 or £649.

It also has a Hard Disk, is twice as heavy and is larger in all but one dimension.

Your forgetting, we have 17.5% tax added onto all of our prices, so the effective amount is $137, which is a (slightly) better deal.

6. if this happens repeat steps 1-4
1. Plug in any old keyboard.
2. Boot computer
3. Whip out keyboard
4. Don't turn computer off
