You know, if I am going to have one of my lectures videorecorded so that the University can use and re-use it again then they'd better improve my compensation packet. As of now, I do not grant them the right to re-distribute things indiscriminately. It is sort of the re-negotiation of contracts for actors after VHS/DVD/BD came along... Each new medium for the producers to make extra $$ then the people who actually work in making the product should get extra $$ too.
Yes, but osx cannot output sound to two devices at once, hence it is very cumbersome to have to go to settings and change the audio output every f... time you decide you want the audio on the tv (via hdmi) or on the receiver (via optical). I know, because I have a mac mini and it is a pain... (no hdmi output but an added usb sound card).
... you are bound to get burned. Folks: do not work for a system (appstore) that gives you no right whatsoever, if you do you will eventually get screwed. Obvious, isn't it?
No... the alternative is to cache. A bit in RAM (with 512 MB they should be able to cache a couple of pages, you'd think), and a lot in the 16 GB+ there is. It really mystifies me why safari on iphoneO$ can't cache at all. I had browsers cache things back in the days where 16MB (yes MEGA) was the memory I had for the entire machine!
Well, if the EMH were a bunch of qbits, then this would be true. However, we know it is not true because in some episode the EMH was left in some godforsaken planet and Voyager still managed to reload it from a backup...
Then it shows that apple is incredibly (really incredibly, meaning I cannot believe it) incompetent! (letting a highly secretive device out with all the logos and identifiers to make sure if any mishap happened---and you can be certain that at some point errors will happen---then the secretive prototype could be clearly identified as legit). I rest my case:-)
Except that if *I* were going to put field units out, I would make sure they'd have no logos whatsoever printed in them. Seems a quite elemental "security" consideration if you *really* wanted to keep a secret...
It *IS* a marketing ploy. There is *NO* reason why the apple and iphone names/logos should have been imprinted into this device if it is a prototype/testing device. Without the logos and with a good locking mechanism (as stated by others) this should only have appeared to be some knock-off device. As usual, all the stupid media (including/.) picks up on this and apple gets free publicity. Duh!
I am the widow of NGALA MTUR NGILI, ex-director of Intel-Nigeria. When he left intel he managed to stash a FIVE MILLION 48-CORE CHIPS in a box in Switzerland. If you help me get these, you may keep TWO MILLION OF THOSE CHIPS FOR YOURSELF.

One of the things I find TRULY ANNOYING about the iphone is that there is virtually no caching of information (incredible if you think that sometimes your network connection isn't that great). You load one page in safari and back to the previous page requires a complete reload from the server. This is STUPID. Hopefully Opera will bring this to us, then again ievil iapple will probably never allow Opera... And then... hopefully Opera will migrate to the cydia store, showing again why the jailbroken community rules!
Simple: society gives me those rights. It is a self-consistent thing. In THIS society, you have to abide by its regulations (including the obligation of doing business with people who you may not like). You don't like that, then go and find another society.
Sorry, does not work that way. As far as I am concerned, you do not have an absolute right to have a business. Society gives you that right, along with some obligations also determined by society. For example: you cannot discriminate based on race, etc. You don't like it? Fine, take your business elsewhere (e.g., there are quite a few countries that will allow you to freely discriminate based on sex, race, religion, etc; go there, we won't miss you).
Japan is the size of California and has a lot of short runs of new copper. The US is the size of the entire US and has long runs of pre-WWII hemp-wrapped aluminum foil.
Time to stop making poor excuses. If the US has an old infrastructure, one can ask "WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO IMPROVE IT?".
And why does he keep posting nonsense (like the $49 cost for the Nexus, seems kdawson uses the same accounting methods as wall-street) and gets approved for posting (two time in two days about the same nonsense)??? I know of lots of people (inc. myself) who proposed stories that were much less non-sensical than to claim that the phone costs $49 and these stories were not posted. Who is reviewing these stories? Is kdawson a slashdot insider? Hell, if nonsense stories get approved like this, please cancel my "subscription" to slashdot!!!!!!

Birds are smarter than nerds!
Which is why every single DVD gets ripped ("movie only") to a HD and watched from there (PLEX on a mac mini connected to 40" LCD, neat!)
Your rounding is incorrect. 1 ft = 0.305 m (exact), 1 m^2 = 1/(0.305)^2 ft^2 = 10.7497884... = 10.7 if you round it to the nearest 0.1.
$$ e^{i \pi} + 1 = 0 $$

Indeed :-) (nothing moves as fast as slashdot...)
I think the article is absolute nonsense. The A4 has been "disassembled" and it is consistent with an ARM single core.
Then don't update. Simple, isn't it?

Thank you for the good news. I will buy Opera when it appears on the Cydia store!

Apple is iEvil.

Not what I would call completely transparent, eh?
