    If they reveal it, they have to account for the money going into it. Far easier to just re-direct some funds earmarked for something else to a project, than reveal it and have to face the costly scrutiny and investigation by the accountants.

    Vandenberg AFB in California is the source of all near polar orbit satellite launches in the US. And I recall there being another launch site for the military on the eastern seaboard, in Virginia perhaps (?).

    One of my family's friends is an airline pilot. He and his wife (who does not work) live on a waterfront property they just remodeled to include a 50-foot observation tower, interior fireplaces, customized heating/cooling systems, surround sound systems, etc. He's quite a bit of a geek, former air force, and has a fair bit of time on his hands. It's people like him who the RIAA is going to find itself seriously threatened by, for he has the time, the money, and the determination to say FU right back at 'em. And, with any luck, one of those 260-some poor souls (or preferably a few dozen) fit that profile.

    Because it may very well be fucking impossible, is the point. What he's saying is that the reality of the situation, that FTL and solar travel, may not be possible at any point in the future. And unfortunately, that's true.

    I contend that it is insightful (and perhaps a bit funny as well). As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing further to this issue. If I had within my power now the ability to erase the **AA from the earth right now, I would do so. This is no longer a question of morals or legality. This is war.

    Thanks for replying to /., it's really quite cool to see someone as busy as you taking the time to not only read slashdot, but to read through the comments and write a detailed summary just to please a few inquisitive readers. Do your estimations only take into account one potential unmanned vehicle loss, or multiple accidents (or any method for salvaging the craft in the event of an accident)? Thank you, and good luck!

    Old Term: Motor Vehicle Accident

    New Term: Motor Vehicle Crash

    Accident is a word that means it was unintentional. Crash, is a generic word referring to something that could be either intentional or unintentional. Therefore, being as it is less specific, they changed from MVA to MVC, to increase accuracy. Understood?

    By the same logic, it was understandable and acceptable that Timothy McVeigh's bomb also destroyed a daycare center, after all, it was just "collateral damage". By your logic. The fact remains that the blood of thousands and thousands of innocents lies directly on our hands. Not to mention the tens of thousands of Iraqi soldiers likely killed.
