The Intertainer client allowed you to Pause, Fast Forward and Rewind streamed content, one of the nicer features of WMP.
I'm not sure exactly how this Disney box will work, I have seen numerous interpretations on it here. Some think it stores all 100 movies in the box, if that's actually the case then the wait time is no longer an issue as you wont know the movies are available until the are actually available.
If they do keep all available content in the box and it truly is VOD, as in I want to start at 8:13 all I do is click the button and off I go, then as long as the quality is good they should do OK.
But personally, I still want widescreen and DD or DTS 5.1. I didn't buy a surround sound system to watch VHS in stereo.
1. Xvid or Divx containered in OGM format can support 5.1 and subtitles, with *amazing* quality in 1400 MB.
I should have noted that it has to contain some form of DRM that the studios "trust".
I know it is possible to get what we want, good quality, decent file size and the extras. It's getting that and what the studios are willing to use that's tough.
The reason Movielink or any other online studio approved streaming site forces you to use IE on Windows is that it's the only platorm that the encryption works. That and WMP on the Mac sucks.
Having worked for a failed "Brodband Entertainment Network" (their term not mine) in my opinion there are some hurdles to get over.
A decent codec that provides both DVD quality video and 5.1 audio
Enough bandwidth to support streaming, who wants to wait for it to download
Easy integration to the TV
It sounds like they have taken care of #3. But if I have to wait longer than it will take me to go to Blockbuster (I didn't see a download time in the article) for something that is going to be less than VHS quality, they aren't going to get my money.
That actually sounds like a cool concept. It doesn't fit into what I use Vonage for, but I like the idea.
When we signed up for Vonage, 2 years ago, we did it becasue my wife was in sales and had clients all over the place. 2 calls to the UK cost more on a land line than we pay for a month of Vonage;-)
I do ALL of my development on a PowerBook with Camino (Mozilla based) and the only browsers I have to tweak for are Netscape 4 and IE 5. Mostly for Netscape 4.
If you know what things the different browsers can handle and what makes them puke it's not that bad. You end up with some legacy width and height tags for Netscape 4, but the CSS aware browsers will ignore them.
You also want to sniff the browser to feed it CSS that it can handle, I have found that some tag's will destroy a page in Netscape 4 and IE 5, so there a 3 CSS files for NS_4, IE_5 and everything else.
Don't get me wrong, I will never get Netscape 4 to look the way I want, but according to my logs, I don't need to.
All Book Stores is a good place as well, although they don't list Bookpool which happens to be my preference for tech books and usually the least expensive.
YMMV- I am in no way affiliated with either of those sites.
The more quality links you have the better your PageRank the higher up in the results.
If you search for the number of sites that link to google it's ~39,000. I have a feeling a few of those have a page rank above 7, that is going to put them at the top for a lot of searches.
I knew that was going to happen... I got to lunch and this thought popped into my head, "Boy did you word that subject poorly, maybe nobody will notice."
$subject =~ s/lunch/a break/; would have been better
I figured I would stay quiet and see if anybody pointed that out.
Drag it out of Applications, if you still don't feel comfortable with that put a copy in an encrypted dmg. When the update is done, just drag it back into place, or another place, I have heard that they can coexist.
I personally use a PowerBook and VirtualPC. The combo of OS X, VirtualPC (everything x86) and Classic (OS 9 browsers) life couldn't be better. I can work anywhere, anytime and do my testing.
OK, so life could be better, I could be independently wealthy.
If you are so irritated by cookies, why don't you just install Junkbuster and set it up to drop all cookies? Or better yet, only allow cookies from sites you trust and then you can turn off cookie confirmations.
I would imagine that it would take you less time than you spend clicking on cookie dialogs in a day.
If I am looking at a new car and I take into consideration the amount I am going to be paying in insurance when making my decision, I may choose a car based on insurance rates.
Since part of the rate determination is based on where said car ranks on the most stolen list, I could buy a $30k BMW (not in the top 100) instead of a $22k Toyota Camry (ranked #1 for 2002) and end up spending the same amount monthly.
In which case I am going to opt for the BMW.
YMMV. No I haven't done an extensive study on this;-)
I have recently upgraded from a Mac 8600/300 w/64 Megs of RAM to a new G5 dual 2GHz with AGP 8X and PCI-X to help me at my freelance gig where I copy a 17 Meg file from one folder on the hard drive to another folder. On the G5 I spent about 20 minutes trying to install Adobe Arcobat 6. 20 minutes.
OK, Problem one appears to be that are are using a box that doesn't ship for 3-5 weeks. That tends to make them slow. So in reality I'm guessing that it will take you ($delivery_date + $unpacking_time + $boot_time + 5min) to install Acrobat 6.
Also, are you sure you are qualified for a job that requires you to copy a file form one folder to another? Maybe you should practice the following: "Would you like fries with that?" and "Do you want to SuperSize that?"
I honeslty don't remember what bfast.com is, at one point I went looking and decided to add them to my block list for JunkBuster all I get now is a little message saying that URL was blocked.
What happens when someone fires up their non-MS OS and the ActiveX fails? Does it detect that it's obviously clean and open up their port or do they have to call and sit in the queue?

With Vonage you can call ANY phone number you want, not just some other VoIP phone.
And you don't get a "handset" you get a Cisco ATA186 that you plug any phone you want into.
It talks to their servers becasue at some point it has to get injected back into the POTS network as an analog call.

I guess it only make sense to build a decent front end to the alexa archive, they claim it's huge.
awww, come to Los Angeles where you pay ~8.5% and they take ~5% out of every pay check
That or a completely clueless person.
;)
I'm hoping it's the former
most folks here don't use either ;)

Sounds like a great solution either way.
