In long, I follow practically no website that doesn't have a feed. If I'm really desperate to follow a site without a feed, I have written a small set of scripts to quickly generate feeds for the website that I then add to my RSS reader. Which I also wrote myself because tt-rss wasn't around back then and I wanted a server-side solution that didn't depend on a client running all the time.
So, yes, for me, RSS is alive and kicking. Oh, and I also wrote a RSS-to-Mastodon service. Yay for RSS!
I work as an IT consultant / implementer. I tend to work in Big Corporations doing infrastructural software projects. This includes introducing new procedures of how IT staff is going to administer their servers in the future (e.g.: how to use SSH in the future) both by technical as well as organisational means. This also means that the IT staff and I are not often on good terms which in turn again means I don't get cut any slack wrt. accessing the internet or getting software installed on my assigned corporate workstation. I can't download any files bigger than a certain threshold, can't download files ending in.exe,.msi,.zip,.7z,.rar,.ps1,.tar,.gz,.bz2, the list goes on. USB is disabled on the workstations and they don't have an optical drive or a floppy drive. Yes, IT is on lockdown.
When I have to use un-approved software (for example: wireshark for network debugging, vim for efficient file-editing) I usually upload the data I need to a private or corporate cloud instance, download it back onto my laptop via mobile phone network, do my work and transfer it back the same way.
Honestly? Yes, it's a shameless plug, but my favorite RSS reader is the one I wrote myself, unspectacularly named 'blindRSS' (google it, I'm not yet THAT shameless). Okay, I am: https://github.com/blind-coder/blindRSS/tree/dev
Who they are? They are people like me, coming from Europe to the US and being afraid of being killed or deported to guantanamo on the US border. I honestly never WANTED to go to the US ever since the 9/11 hysteria broke out. I don't even like flying inside my own country anymore, because every time at the so-called 'security' check I age by a few months.
No, I'll rather ride my motorbike across the country next saturday when going from the far north to the far south of my home country. It'll be a much more relaxed travel.
I couldn't agree more. Anyone posting shit on 'social networking' (aka: emotional/personal strip tease) sites should just stop a second to think about the consequences.
For the rest of us, our chances for a good job go up with every idiot on those sites.
Debian, Wikipedia, FreeGeek, Freenode, and Blender
So the money goes to projects that already have a big financial supporting community? Wikipedias fundraiser usually works great, no? So does Freenodes. Blender has been 'bought into freedom'.
So, realistically speaking. How are the chances of small, say 1-5 people, projects getting support to actually be able to have a nice booth at a Linux Fair or similiar?
A mix of oatmeal, hazelnuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. Topped with low-fat yoghurt. This goes good with a glass of orange juice. After that I can tackle the day.
if I click on the image, I expect it to open in the same or a new window. If I click with both mousebuttons, I expect it to open in a new tab. this is not possible with javascript 'links' which may or may not do things as you would expect and certainly destroy any usage patterns you have achieved and do so without a valid reason.
My mozilla from a year-or-so ago has this setting where it ask you about each cookie being set. it can then remember the setting for this website. Maybe you should learn about or change your browser.
Edit - Preferences - Privacy & Security - Cookies Here Check 'Allow Cookies based on privacy settings' and 'Ask for each cookie'.
Also, for flash, google for flashblock. Nice plugin, disables all flash and replaces it with a 'play' button. You can then click on that button to show the flash.
I like how the first thing the 'cookie misuse' site is doing is trying to do is to set a cookie. The 'why' remains unknown. Other things they do is prohibit tabbed browsing by using javascript to open an image from a thumbnail to a new window. Can someone please send these guys to a usability crash-course?
Well, on my 3year old mainboard, it certainly is. Shut Windows down using a short touch on the power button (you'll see the shutdown window), and Wake-On-LAN does exactly nothing. Shut Windows down with Start->Shutdown (still funny today) and WOL works. Shut Linux down with 'halt', 'init 0' or 'shutdown -h now' and WOL works.
How about trying to hire internationally? Telecommuting? The world is larger than just the US of A, and not every engineer lives in or wants to move to them.
Almost right. You can stop distributing version 1.0 under the GPL but that doesn't invalidate all the already distributed copies. You can hope, though, that those copies will die out one day...
Otherwise, I think this is a great idea and would love to swordfight some dude in a game.
Practicing Kendo in my free time, that was really the first thought I had when I heard about the Wii controller. If there is such a game, and the controller is anything near usable, hell, I'll probably mount the controller onto my Shinai for playing!
In short, yes.

Main advantage IMO: Runs on your own server.

They do?
I really only read the comic, never heard about anything else...
Currently I get just under 1000 spammails a day, roughly 0.8% make it through to my inbox.
Do you recognise the girl? Then call her!
Do you recognise the canine? Then yes, that's bad.
That's because they read every mail before it hits your inbox.

You can do this in Mozilla. Same dialogue as before, click on 'Manage Cookies'. Don't know about the new FF, but in my Mozilla, it's there.
care to enlighten us on the correct way or do you intend to let us die dumb?

or just use the target parameter like everyone else.

The choice of eyes is obvious: We need to put up Chuck Norris eyes everywhere!

Yeah, very important role, indeed...

Extra Kudos for hitting a TV Satellite during the soccer WM! I give him 5 EUR if he manages to do that.
Thanks for your interest in Google Video.
Currently, the playback feature of Google Video isn't available in your country.
We hope to make this feature available more widely in the future, and we really appreciate your patience.
So, any way for us "little folk" in Germany to watch this video?
