Not sure how relevent this is , but someone else might be able to expand on this...

During WW2 there was a need to make flights from the West Coast of Australia, all the way over to India, now this isnt such a big deal these days .. but with the planes they were using then, it was..

Basicly to get the range needed they did some funky calculations and it ended up working something like this.

    2 hours @ 15000 Feet @ 3000 RPM
    2 hours @ 17000 Feet @ 2900 RPM
    2 Hours @ 18000 Feet @ 2800 RPM

and so on, basicly as the plane burnt the fuel they could fly a little higher ( less weight ) , and with a little less RPM ( less weight + greater altitude = less drag )

and by doing this the rate of fuel consumption got lower over the course of the flight giving the plane enough fuel to make the trip in one go.

Side note, from memory the planes were PBY Flying boats ..

Feel free to correct this if you know more of the details .

  7. Rainbow Tables , Make your own! on Letters-Only LM Hash Database · · Score: 2, Interesting

A buddy of mine works in Network Security, so for something to do and cause it would help him with his job we made our own rainbow tables. The time it took and disk space is roughly as follows.

5 average pc's ( all about 2000Mhz or so ) took about 30 days, and generated about 18Gb or tables.

Now these tables give us about 95%+ hit rate on any LM Hash we , erm "acquire"

The tables contain all hashes upto 14 Chars length using all letters all numbers and some symbols.

Just about the only hashes these tables wont hit are the machine generated ones.

I guess the point is turn *OFF* LM hashes at all cost, and if you absolutely "must" use them, make sure you kept them secure!

oh and a side note, if you are interested in cracking / brute forcing LM hashes, make sure to run them thru a copy of L0pht Crack or some such to get all the Blank, Pass==Name, Pass==Name-reversed hashes out of the way first.

After about half an hour of searching they let me go and everything was ok. The customs girl who searched me was really nice and I've got nothing against her, but now there is a file on me that they found traces of cocain in my bag. I thought about how the hell this could happen, and when I got home I realised that the lock on my bag was missing (I had noticed earlier but forgot when I was being searched). I opened up my bag again and found a note from US customs. Apparently they had broken open my bag to search it. I guess ing these fuckers searched my bag and accidently contaminated my bag with some cocain they found on an ealier search. Thanks guys...

I dont mean this to be personal, so please dont be offened. i'm just using you ( and your wife ) as an example ...

Value of anything is *NOT* based on reality, its based on the perception of reality.

If something is perceived to have value then it has value, and vice-versa..

Quite "They also think my wife is worth nothing I might add. I however think she is priceless, as is my son."

This is true for you.. because in your reality your wife and son are very important to you and are irreplaceable ( spl ) and therefor are priceless to you.

To me however, ( purely because i dont know you or your family ) , you , your wife and your son have no value or meaning to me at all , and are therefor worthless.

    To give another example,
Diamonds are perceived to have extreamly high value and are perceived to be extreamly rare, how ever this is not the case. Diamonds are more prolific than say rubies and emeralds ( spl ) , but because of marketing and market control by Deboers they are perceived to have a higher value by most people.

( ps , sorry to be rude towards your family, is was just an example, no offence intended )
