You do have to connect to a server, but with eMule it's not as annoying as it used to be in the eDonkey days. I've been using the network since late 2001, and I can assure you it's changed a lot. With eMule, you'll first need to find a serverlist (only once!). Site with links to serverlists. I'd pick "All servers". Once you've got those in, just connect and wait a while. Set the client to connect at startup and keep connected. Assuming you're using eMule and actually downloading a file, you will get new sources and new servers from the peers you're connected to. This means you'll never have to update the serverlist manually again, and being connected to a good server is not that important, because you get sources from your peers and not only from the servers. In the eDonkey2000 era (before eMule was created), finding servers was annoying, but it's greatly improved now.
If you're on a Mac, you'll be using mlDonkey. I don't think it has these nice things, however. Contrary to the story submitter, I'd recommend aMule for Linux. I think it has those nice eMule features. Some time in the not-so-distant future they promise to have a working OS X version too.
Yep. My GB and GBA are European, my GBC is American, and my NDS will be Japanese. I love that I can actually do that with no problems, because I, er, live around.
Will probably be a bit more... The DS will be 15,000 yen, which thus is less than half of the PSP. And that's totally awesome and I'm getting a DS in December.:)
Yeah. Well, though I don't know about the legality of a license agreement that prohibits transfer of the license, it doesn't matter; buying used CDs gives as much to the artist/RIAA as downloading it does: nothing. Heck, I rented a CD (actually copy-protected with the RIAJ [Japan] label; not a "real" CD, though I can't tell the difference on my Mac) yesterday and copied it. Since it's a designated rental CD, the record company earns more from this than if I bought the same CD used. I'm not paying 3100 yen (almost $30) for that CD, hell no.
The link in the summary shows how many infected files that have been found in North America in the last 24 hours. It's more interesting to make it show the number of infected computers, globally in the last month: Like this. Spots 1 and 2 are taken up by "exploits"; I guess these are just unpatched machines. And then on 3, 4 and 5 are the spywa-- or wait don't sue me -- adware infestations, with Gator leading at an 8.28% infection rate.
Gator beats any virus in infestation rate if you look at the more relevant statistics.
But then when two thirds of all humans live in space colonies orbiting earth, what do you do about the Newtypes that start evolving? And how do you stop the civil war?
Actually, the letter combination "er" as in "driver", "tracker" or "inter" is pronounced as "a". With romanized Japanese, "internet" is spelt as "inta-netto". Sorry for spoling your joke. It really kinda was funny. Try again the next time there's a story about Japanese companies making lobottos.:)

Off-topic, but... Is your sig a reference to reference to the anime Revolutionary Girl utena? I just started watching it the other day. Strange how you start understanding the references in sigs on Slashdot slowly.
The scroll wheel will be great for browsing web pages. What do you need a trackball or a trackpad for when you have a touchscreen? Also, 2.5" drives are much more expensive than 3.5" drives. I haven't seen a laptop with more than 80 GB of space. For a portable keyboard, use Bluetooth. SD and MMC slots take far less space than a CF slot, and both can be supported with only one slot.
I'm not getting one, of course; I already have an iBook. Still, it's not that bad.
Well, most cameras, even if they use USB 2.0, only use Full Speed, which is the same speed as USB 1.1 anyway. If it's a 802.11g network card, you can transfer the MP3s and videos over the network; this thing doesn't have an optical drive to rip CDs, and I would use a stationary to download things anyway; just copy over when it's wanted. The small hard drive also neccessitates this. Won't work as a primary computer, of course, but as a complimentary device it'd do quite well. Assuming it's fast enough to run a word processor and play MPEG4s, it can be quite useful.
Well-encoded high-quality XviD or DivX files are much better than VHS. This is simply objective. A good place for broadcast resolution encodes is about 1.2 mbps, which comes out to about 10 MB per minute after adding an audio track. Of course, this won't fit a 2-hour movie on one CD as he speaks of; those encodes don't tend to look very good, though back in the day that DivX 3.11 release of the Matrix was pretty impressive. Both codecs and bandwiths have improved since then, however. As you mention, though, this DVR most certainly uses MPEG2, which does not look good at 1.2 mbps. DVDs are, IIRC, often encoded with 8 mbps, though this is flexible. Would have looked great with MPEG4, though.
So then of course any stereotypes about France surrendering in WW2 (which is a resentful thing to say as it ignores the massive casualties and fierce resistance movement) are invalid, because that's version 4.0, the 3rd republic, right?
Vertically mounted optical drives are a bad idea? Hm, they're not that uncommon for compact desktops here in Japan, and the PS2 can be mounted that way. You're not talking about the hard drive, are you?
Hm, I haven't had problems with three digital cameras (Minolta, Olympus, Casio), three mice (one no-name, one MS, one Logitech), a no-name flash MP3 player, and a no-name cheap gamepad. Except for the MS mouse and the Casio camera, all these were bought before getting a Mac, but they all work with no problems on my iBook. One of the mice, the gamepad, and the MP3 player had nothing on the boxes about Mac support, but they worked. Just saying, my experience is different. Maybe Firewire drivers aren't as standardized as USB drivers?
If it is illegal, and MS sued someone who used a pirate key or other illegal manner of installing an operating system they paid money for, the court would throw it out. Sheesh.
That's not really the same; someone is much more isolated when they're listening to music than when reading something. I wouldn't try to start a conversation with someone listening to music on the train, but if it's just the newspaper the person is still accessible.
Oh, the Sweden-Switzerland thing. I'm a Norwegian exchange student in Japan, so naturally everyone thinks I'm from Sweden. I had one guy ask me "so how's Switzerland compared to Japan?" and a Swiss exchange student says they always think he's from Sweden, or even Finland.

You conveniently missed the part about " something worth switching to..." meaning FireFox is not worth switching to.

Why should I? Reformatting is faster and solves more problems.
Reinstalling Windows every 6 months? I'm usually on a 2 month cycle.

So a G5 1.8 GHz is slower than a P4 2.4 GHz? Yeah right.
Hello, I'm wondering about exactly what the differences between WinFS and Spotlight are. Can you show me some webpages explaining them? Thank you.

Well yeah, they're both American cities. Didn't you know?

Not with quadruple core CPUs...

So can you name and locate all the states in the Helvetican Confederacy (Switzerland)? What about all the states of the United Mexican States?
