The Stern show is the highest rated show in America. His E! show is the highest rated show on that particular channel. How do you calculate indecency? If millions of people enjoy the show, who is Michael Powell to tell us what we're allowed to listen to, and what are his credentials? That his daddy's courted by all presidents because he's well respected and famous? This is BS and I'm glad Stern is taking him on for the hypocrite that he is. By the way, Bono was never fined, he was just found indecent.
Oprah didn't get fined for talking about tossed salads on her show, Bono didn't get fined for saying the horrible F word on live TV. But after janet's nasty boob popped out, they pulled a 3 year old tape of the stern show and deemed it indecent, then fined Viacom the biggest indecency fine in history. The point is, how are radio people supposed to jnow what's indecent, when they pull 3 year old stuff to fine you with? Michael Powell is the head of the FCC, and is responsible for this nonsense. I hope he's replaced very soon.
Perhaps for a routine non-emergency procedure this is a great choice. My Indian buddies tell me it takes 24 hours to get to India from Los Angeles, so this is definitely not for emergency procedures.
The article is grossly generalizing here, and I disagree with the numbers. Perhaps a huge established act makes $1.60 in royalties, but your typical Good Charlotte here today gone tomorrow can make as little as a nickel per album in royalties.
I don't have the energy to further dissect the numbers, but as an independent band I can make 1,000 CDs with a small manufacturing company, and including packaging I can get it to around 75 cents each out the door. Major labels pay less, not more. I would think their costs (guessing of course) are probably more in the 25 to 30 cent range.
And $3.89 in retail overhead? To sit on a shelf? Someone's being scammed!
I'm actually using this system right now to type this comment. It works really wellOH MY GOD LOOK AT THE HOOTERS ON THAT NEW SECRETARY OH OH DONT SUBMIT
The best part is dual layer and PC connections, everything else is already available for $200 at costco and you get TV tuner included. I believe amazon had a DVD recorder with TV tuner for $169 just a few days ago. The costco model (don't remember the brand, its some weird Chinese brand) includes firewire input, so you can plug your DV / Digital 8 cam right into it. Not bad for that kind of money.
For the life of me, when will cable companies find a new vendor for their equipment? Scientific Atlanta is the worst. I have their Tivo-like box offered by Charter. The thing pales in comparison to a TIVO, the menus are shit, its slow, etc. Why doesn't someone step up to the plate and take over these clowns? As far as this article is concerned the problems are not all inside the cable box, it seems, but we need better!
This rumor seems plausible, but go to macrumors and there's always some rumor or another. Thinksecret may have the best record in getting it right, but their word isn't gold. Having said that:
I'm not that excited about a photo iPod. I worry about battery life, because my 3rd gen gets only about 6 hours. The 4th gen is better, supposedly double, but it seems to me a color screen will severely drain battery life.
Now that my powerbook has a DVD burner, I find it pretty easy to burn a picture DVD in DVD Studio Pro (not free), but it plays pretty much everywhere and the media is now dirt cheap in bulk. And it has music, menus, etc. The iPod just seems like a gimmick in this arena. But maybe Stebe will surprise me!
PS Hey Stebe give me the wifi iPod rather than the photo iPod!
The Patent was actually filed July 9, 1992. I've got an idea for some patent reform: Let your patent get knowingly infringed for 1 year - lose the patent.
The show won't be ad-free. You didn't include advertising revenue. A nationwide ad on the number one radio show in the country is worth ??? Oh, and Howard's getting 3 channels, not one.
I do think that the commercials will be cheaper in the short run, but in the long run, this is an incredible score for Sirius. Do you think they made the decision thinking they would lose money?
His goal is to add 1 million listeners. I got news for you - he's gonna add 3-5 times that many listeners. Everyone I know who loves howard in the morning is already checking out the radio models. Oh, and each subscriber pays $12.99 per month. Do the math. Personally, I can't wait for this.
"Over the last couple of years the Howard Stern show has become a staple of the morning, as common as my cup of coffee. So it's sad to hear that at the end his contract, my man Howard will be moving to Sirius radio. At $12.99 a month I'm not sure I want to take that on, plus I have to buy a weird radio with an antenna I have to lug around.
I blame it on the FCC, and I fail to see how a show that's been on the air for over 20 years is suddenly indecent. We, the people own the airwaves, not the corporations, not even the government. They license it on our behalf. How can anyone say with a straight face that the number 1 show in America violates American decency standards?
So maybe I'm a Howard geek because I know the words to the Sulu Dance and the Ba Ba Booey Star Wars theme. It doesn't matter. When I write a song I don't want to consider how appropriate or decent it is. This matter affects me, and it affects you too. Do something about it in 3 weeks."
I call bullshit. Netflix doesn't charge for movies lost in the mail. I've had only one lost, and my buddy had so many stolen that they cancelled his membership, but they don't charge you for them.
Plus, he wants to give you a free PC to try Blockbuster? Umm, yeah.
Those must be cool time traveling kids, considering version 3 isn't available yet.
.
I use version 2 on Windows and the Mac and they're both great. Its an expensive program, but with a nice soundcard you can do some serious work with the Steinberg Stuff.
I tried logic once and I couldn't figure it out without looking things up. With Cubase its pretty straightforward.
By the way, Audacity supports VST's as well, although they don't display like they do in Steinberg's software.
Those of us in the USA who buy music from allofmp3 need to remind ourselves thats it's not legal here. But dammit its the closest thing to perfect. There media app downloads the songs for you in the background, the tunes are dirt cheap and they have a good (but not excellent, at least in punk) selection. Their search engine sucks though. Search for "corazon oro" without the quotes, then search for "corazon de oro". that song should be there in the first search! I would also like it if it embedded the album cover into the tune, so iTunes could display it.
I've been in Europe for 2 weeks, and it's been available at least since last week. It's selling for 79 euros, about 100 dollars. They're having TV promotions and everything. I thought most stuff showed up in Europe last?
I'm on the 3 movie plan. If I return all 3 on one day, only 1 registers as returned and they'll delay the others as much as 2 more days. How do I know for sure? I've sent 2 movies in the same envelope, one movie took 2 more days before it was confirmed as returned. You're on an expensive plan, you get preferential treatment.
We had a pumpkin carving contest at work - and I won with my Gene Simmons Pumpkin. Geez, I used to be cool.

Do you really think George Bush knows jack shit about hosting a website? Somebody else made this decision.

Gives "Blue Screen of Death" a whole new meaning.
The funniest thing about that? Most office thermostats are placebos.
I'm still waiting for the black and yellow sriped STRYPER edition. Hello?
Question - what does this have to do with the Xbox?
Answer - Nothing.
This is a set top box, not an addition to the Xbox.

Never buy a tech book without checking bookpool.com!
$25.95 + shipping, free ship with $40 order (sadly, most tech books are pricey)

Considering that Netflix is partly owned by the movie studios, I'd say this would have to be very legal.
