    Apparently, MyTunes grabs the actual file somehow, which may or may not involve streaming in the usual "normal speed playback" sense.
    I just downloaded MyTunes and tried it on the LAN in my dorm. Once you start a song in iTunes, it is added to a list in MyTunes of songs that you can copy. Choosing to copy a song takes mere seconds, and, as far as I can tell, it is a perfect copy: all ID3 data is retained, the size of the files is the same, etc.

    I second that. I am an IT student at the University of Minnesota (one of the largest universities in the US) and I haven't heard even a mention of .NET, even though Microsoft makes substantial donations towards research here. The progression of languages taught here is Scheme, (C++), Java, Assembly, C.

    The University servers run on different flavors of Linux, and a majority of the websites are PHP/MySQL-driven rather than ASP/MSSQL.

    But cornflakes have carbohydrate;
    So I don't eat those fattening cornflakes,
    I eat the vodka straight.

    Drink, drink, everyone drink;
    It's not as bad as we used to think.
    With every Manhattan your stomach will flatten,
    So drink, drink, drink.

    The Air Force invented this diet,

    Of course they deny it, 'cause this is the diet
    That got the Air Force high.

    For lunch you can have three martinis,
    What better lunch is there than that?
    But caution: do not eat the olives,
    'Cause olives make you fat.

    Drink, drink, everyone drink;
    It's not as bad as we used to think.
    If pounds you would burn off, then turn on your Smirnoff,
    And drink, drink, drink.

    For dinner, a nice Scotch and soda
    Now that oughtta help you to lose.
    No whipped cream, no butter, just lay in the gutter
    And booze, booze, booze.

    Suppose you should meet a policeman,
    Who says you've been quenching your thirst;
    You just tell him it's physical fitness
    And health comes first!

    Drink (hic!), drink (hic!), booze everywhere (hic!);
    Pass that decanter of bourbon there.

    Re: ICANN Advisory Concerning VeriSign's Deployment of DNS Wildcard Service dated 19 September 2003

    Dear Paul:

    This will respond to the ICANN Advisory concerning VeriSign's Deployment of DNS Wildcard Service dated 19 September 2003. In the footsteps of several other registries that have done the same, we recently deployed a wildcard in the .com and .net zones. This was done after many months of testing and analysis and in compliance with all applicable technical standards. All indications are that users, important members of the internet community we all serve, are benefiting from the improved web navigation offered by Site Finder. These results are consistent with the findings from the extensive research we performed.

    We are, of course, very interested in any objective technical information ICANN may have received concerning the service and would welcome the opportunity to work with you to review such data. To that end, we have reached out to schedule meetings with ICANN's Chairman, Vint Cerf, and the Chairman of ICANN's Security and Stability Advisory Committee, Steve Crocker, to exchange information regarding issues that may be encountered in the community. We have also formed an independent technical review panel to gather and analyze data for the purpose of assessing any operational impact of our wildcard implementation. The technical review panel will consist of leading experts in the field.

    As to your call for us to suspend the service, I would respectfully suggest that it would be premature to decide on any course of action until we first have had an opportunity to collect and review the available data. After completing an assessment of any operational impact of our wildcard implementation, we will take any appropriate steps necessary.

    I look forward to continuing to work with you on this issue.

    Best Regards,

    Russell Lewis
